I am thinking of getting a full sewn-in weave. Preferably a Remy brand or some other form of bohemian curly weave. How can I care for my natural hair and my weave? My hair is really high maintenance, if I don't wash it itches like crazy...pls I really need advice guys or should I just get braids or kinky twists?

I changed my hair regimen, I needed to maximise my time and money

Weekly

Hello Hydration for detangling and pre poo

Rainforest Shampoo for washing

Boots Ingredient Coconut and almond Intensive Mask plus Palmers Protein pack (I mix the two together) for my deep conditioning- I deep condition every week- leave it on for 30 minutes

Boots leave in conditioner and Aphogee leave-in conditioner: I mix them together in a spay bottle, with a little bit of glycerine, rose water and water (optional). I apply when it is damp and then leave it to air dry.

Coconut oil and Black castor oil for my edges; Coconut oil and Almond oil for my hair.

I moisturised with water or my leave-in mix every two days.

Hot oil treatment with coconut oil once in two months

Rawdeal: so after I said I cut my hair which was 2 weeks ago, I've been taking biotin 5000mcg+cod liver oil + folic acid. I have really bad nails. splits in the middle.
Biotin hasn't helped the nails. they're not growing faster as everyone said it does, my hair has grown under my braids about 1cm since my BC two weeks ago. I think that's a little faster than normal growth but I have faster growth in braids.

Your nail and hair are mainly protein therefore you need to increase your protein intake.

@sixix, I don't have a regime anymore(well like I did before). After my hair started breaking I now mostly wash my hair with conditioner because I don't use any heavy products.
I would have my hair in plaits and whenever I want to wash I unravel a plait, use coconut, almond oil and hair mayonaise a few days before then braid it again. I try to get my hair moisturised very well before washing with conditioner. I have been experimenting recently and soaking my hair in water when having my bath actually keeps my hair moisturised and soft. I now just use almond oil as moisturiser and use organics carrot hair cream and organics herbal tea tree gro(lite conditioner) once or twice a month. I wash each plait individual in the shower, oil it in it's wet state and plait it back then do the same to the others. This now works for my hair because it has stopped falling out and has grown past my collarbone.

My scalp is very oily so it gets itchy if I do not shampoo.

I have also been thinking about soaking my hair in the shower but the downside is that I can't leave the house with wet hair (and also the weather makes it difficult) however sometimes I do when I have got evening lectures. I think this should really work because when I was bald and on short hair, my hair was always drenched in water and the growth was really fast even though it was combed with a fine comb thrice a day. I think moisturising is the key ingredient to healthy and beautiful hair.

I now just use almond oil as moisturiser and use organics carrot hair cream and organics herbal tea tree gro(lite conditioner) once or twice a month.

I try to avoid hair products with harsh ingredients, I get build up easily.

I wash each plait individual in the shower, oil it in it's wet state and plait it back then do the same to the others. This now works for my hair because it has stopped falling out and has grown past my collarbone.

That was exactly how I have been washing my hair for the past two weeks, my hair is on the oily side so I have to shampoo weekly with a non-sulphate shampoo.

Your 'regimen' would be great for those who want to go natural but have little or no time and limited budget

Thanks for sharing

Hello ladies and gentlemen(if any) of this thread, I am in dire need of help and that's not an exaggeration; it's 1:11am and I can't sleep cos my scalp is itching, it feels like it's on fire.
My hair is natural and I have no dandruff but I noticed several months back that my scalp is very itchy, I've tried several things; acv, shikakai powder, aphogee 2mins re constructor etc. I decided to get a weave last Tuesday just to give my hair a break but now it feels like that was a bad idea cos the scalp won't stop itching.
PLEASE AND PLEASE I would appreciate any advice I can get on how to make it stop.
Now I have to take out the weave cry
Thanks in advance.

Are there any flakes falling out? You may have a skin infection, which would require a Dermatologist. I'd suggest going in to see a natural hair salon owner (Kemi Lewis, African Naturalista, Natural Nigerian or O' Naturals are women who understand the science of hair). I'm assuming that they will be honest enough to tell you "you need to see a skin doctor, a medically-trained one, not someone who claims he/she is". HTH

No flakes at all, just itching but thanks for your suggestion.

Its using too much products that causes it, I was in same boat as at last month, but since last week, my scalp hasn't itched. Just mix shampoo and salt, then condition your hair, then your normal haircream, don't add so much to your hair.

I'll reduce the quantity of products I apply to my hair but I'm not so sure about the salt thing, how does that help?

Salt helps in exfoliating the scalp, you can read more about it online.

I do yarn wraps or yarn braids/twists most of the time. I keep them in for a month to a month 1/2. Wash and DC every two weeks. I shampoo first, rinse with water then rosewater, then DC. I dilute both the shampoo and DC with lots of water. I concentrate on my scalp and rinse thoroughly to get the products out. Rinse out excess water and let try. Once it's dry I massage my scalp with wheat germ oil, olive oil and JBCO (jamaican black castor oil) to moisturize my scalp and prevent dryness. I clarify once a month. My regimen is pretty simple and I like it that way.

I've never done an hot oil treatment since going natural. I guess my hair has never really needed it. It was something I did back when I was relaxed. I prepoo with coconut oil sometimes before shampooing though and I use a DC by Palmers too; it makes my hair really strong, but I would love to do an hot oil treatment! It can't hurt, so I'mma try it. I love experimenting with oils in my hair anyway.

How do you wear your hair on a daily basis? Do you do protective styles?

Hair regimen (do I really have one sef)

Moisturise with my own blend (water, coconut oil, Herbal Essences moisturiser, aloe vera gel, glycerin), seal with Olive oil (I finally got some original!) And a blend of cocoa butter, shea butter and almond oil (I scented it with citrus and lavender oil)

I used to wash with clay from Natural Nigerian and another clay soap. But now I use Gentelle conditioner (I think it's fake) to wash, then finish with my condish mix.

I dc with mayo, egg, honey, oils and add any remaining product I have, that I don't think worked (eg Emily Millionaire conditioner). This is like once a month.

Once in a while, I oil my scalp with JBCO

I'll probably buy Petals conditioner to be washing my hair or get some clay soap.
