EbolaParasite:Did she kill anybody? Or did she molest any underage minors? Because to me those are real 'crimes'. Yes, I know plagiarism is an 'offence' that is punishable to the full height of the law. STILL I think that suing her for 'millions' will be going over the top. Stop trying to sound like you really want that to happen. Much as I don't encourage going against legal standards, I must confess you all are too quick to judge. She committed a blunder OF COURSE and she should be punished. So far that is what's happening. I've seen a friend who went to an interview for a job in London, we both did the test but on different days. He thought he could use Naija style of copying from another Naija guy next to him during the test. When he saw me and told he got kicked out when the white invigilator noticed he was craning his neck for a simple aptitude test, I laughed. These white people no wan hear anything. He was simply told to leave and that was the end of the interview for him. So I know what cheating/plagiarism means even in the unis. I'm sure they're as strict in Nigeria, it's just in some places that they blur the lines. |

Aida13:The difference is that she commercialised the blog, and was profiting from other people's work. Hence it's a serious issue. However, I'd say she's lucky because "blogger" offers a third party agreement and platform, and her private information would be protected. And that puts google in a tight corner, as the owner of the platform. That was why her blog was yanked off the internet - to protect the parent company. If it had been her personal website, with her domain name, you're looking at a big lawsuit that probably would have been in a region that she wouldn't be able to afford. For example: with gettyimages, you need a licence agreement, and you have to always reference whoever took the pictures, and give them credit. You can read about it here: http://www.gettyimages.co.uk/corporate/licenseagreements.aspx Well, she's very lucky, I must say. And hopefully, she'll start doing things the right way. She's a hustler, and I like her spirit. |

obiscolly:Well she does gives credit only if she's copying from western media. Linda do steal contents from a lot of unknown naija bloggers and all she will do is to add about 3 or 4 sentences of her own. I watched the whole drama unfold on twitter and instead of her to apologise to the guy she and her voltrons were screaming 'bring it on' 'hater' He whom the gods wants to kill they will first make mad |

SirShymex:You're quite correct on all points. It IS a serious issue and of course when it comes to Getty images or any other images that do not belong expressly to a person, they need a license to use it in any form of publishing whether online or off. I know she has a big battle ahead. But like you rightly said, she's a hustler. Like most of us. I hope she learns her lesson and takes it to heart, because the Naija mentality of getting away with murder is too much. |

Aida13:You just have to be careful on the internet when you're making money off it. I think NL's adsense also got cancelled for something similar, that's how it goes. Just study the game, and be cautious. |

remsonik:Well...i never heard that. But if it did happen, she's wrong at that. But, Mr Ay Dee insists that referencing the source isn't enough; that she has to obtain a written permission from the writer. That doesn't make any sense to me. Truth is most materials people use on their blogs especially in Nigeria aren't copyrighted. So anyone that takes advantage of that can't be held liable for copyright infringement. We should establish clearly what plagiarism is here. Take the instance of a blogger using the picture of the President of Nigeria in a post. This picture wasn't taken by the blogger, but they go ahead to use it anyway (this many bloggers and even the complainant is guilty of. How many people have even had the opportunity of taking pics of the President afterall...lol). Does that still count as plagiarism, especially if the picture isn't copyrighted? I'm open to learn. I've never given the issue of copyright and plagiarism much attention and I'll be glad I get the facts right. |

Linda experience presently can be terned as the trouble of a trespassing tenant. Google sees certain activities from her end as a treat to their policy. That means that a tenant must thread softly. The ground may be sinking and the soil may be slippery |
| Re: Google Explains Why It Shutdown Linda Ikeji's Blog by pazienza(m): 5:17pm On Oct 09, 2014 |
obiscolly:Thank you. Linda clearly stated that she often post the source of her news. Cos if posting a news article and it's source without the permission of the original article writer and owner constitutes plagiarism, then even NL would be in trouble. |

I don't know why i like this old adage, "He whom the gods wants to kill, they will first make mad", i always grin whenever i see it. ![]() Well, to the topic, Nigerians need to be re-educated (yes, am generalizing...deal with it). Aspireahead:PARAGRAPH 12 of her response below: Her admission of guilt. She styishly lied that they are hackers, spammers and cybersquatters to hide her crime and whip up fake sentiments. When she was supposed to be defending herself to google why she had stolen more than 10,000 articles, pictures, etc... And the irony was that Google was removing the offensive stuffs bit by bit when she had the nerve to post this rant. So who can blame them for yanking her off!!! lindaikeji: So something has been going on for the past couple of days that I haven't reacted to because I wanted to see it play out and see how far these people will go. They have gone far and it's now time to react. |

obiscolly: pazienza:Citing is not enough. She was still making money from someone else's work. The original writer has the right to deny reproduction without consent, even with citation. Can you start a business selling dubbed Disney movies, just because you said they were made by Disney? Please look up copyright law. The fact that people generally do not press for legal action doesn't not mean it is not illegal. Look at how often Google removes copies of music videos from YouTube. You think those users didn't put the name of the artist? But if the recording company chooses to complain to Google, they will take the video down. On another note, Google can do whatever the hell they want. Blogger is their property. Even if they decided to make a rule that no one on Blogger is allowed to post pictures of green apples, they can. READ THE TERMS AND CONDITIONS. |
