CHAPTER ONE

THE HEARTRENDING WELCOME

“Good morning sir! We are happy to see you! God bless you and your family! Amen!” the voice of the SSS2C students of the Brilliant Brains Basic School reverberated as their new teacher entered the class.

The school has the reputation as the best in the town. It is an epitome of high level of intelligence; well-known for winning awards annually in all academic performances. The school has many skyscraper structures, standing straight to stare directly at the sky like the Tower of Babel. All the buildings in BBBS where newly lavished with paints, light green, making them look always evergreen.
Parents from neighbouring towns and other states in the nation send their children to the school to bring the best out of them and it was all noised far and wide that BBBS was the best school in town.

However, the school, so well reputed for its name and structures and high academic standard, was stained with bad characters such as the likes of the Brutal Brother gangs, a terror to students and teachers alike. Most of the students in the school are morally depraved, especially the boarders whoi would jump over fences to see themselves out of the school compound at will.
Teacher Tunde was only stepping into the school compound for the first time, just being employed as a Further Mathematics teacher. His wife Sarah is a nurse.

Teacher Tunde stood 5ft 2inches tall (a short person), pot-bellied, big toothed, with a wide gap between the inscissors on his upper jaw. He has a round face, typical of a teddy bear. He was not a hairy person, but he had beards which he would always shave as soon as he had deemed them fit to be cut off. He always maintained a crew cut, all in the name of remaining young, despite the fact that he was already above 50 years. However, he would never allow a razor come on his moustache, a handlebar one like that of Herbert Macaulay on a one-naira Nigerian coin.

Brilliant Brains School admits both boarders and day students. There were about sixty-eight classrooms and a hundred teachers in the school to keep the blue flag of the school flying high. The inviting sights of the smiling petals of hibiscuses and Daisy flowers bequeathed the school garden with a befitting ambience, such that no teacher would want to leave the school for another, once employed.

Teacher Tunde slid his hands over the high-rising flowers planted by the sidewalks. He had no car, else he would not have walked that mile. The wind blew its cold benevolence into Teacher Tunde’s hair. He smiled and made a promise in his heart to remain forever in the school until retirement. What more would he need? The school fee was attractive and fat enough to cater for himself and his wife and for any child to come in the future. He had been dreaming to be employed here, and now his dream had come to reality.

Teacher Tunde perambulated in the large environment, gazing up at the libraries, laboratories and hostels. They were all coated with paints to send a winking sensation into the eyes of all observers. One would have easily passed those structures for big banks and insurance houses if only they had no big banners before them indicating that they were laboratories, libraries and the likes.
A female teacher walked past Teacher Tunde and brushed her shoulder against his own. She just grumbled and left. Teacher Tunde’s meritorious mood fell momentarily as he observed the woman’s behavior. However, he decided to let it go and keep up with his good mood. He needed no one to spoil the day for him.

Teacher Tunde climbed the stairways as he made for his classroom. Two girls rushed past him without greeting him, but he was speechless, perhaps as soon as they knew him as a teacher, they would start showing some respects.
Teacher Tunde had great predilection for neatness, choosy sometimes and always wanting to be on white. When asked why, he said he wanted to live without stains in life. It had sounded ironical to all ears which heard him say so. How would one put on white and ever imagined remaining without smears?
Teacher Tunde’s moustache had moulded him into a caricature of humor and hilarity, and in the actual sense too, he is as funny as Mr. Piper.Teacher Tunde’s thought was back into the classroom after getting carried away earlier by the manner they greeted him. He asked for a greeting the second time and the chorus was up again:“Good morning sir! We are happy to see you! God bless you and your family! Amen!”“God bless you too! Please remain standing!” he said. “I am Mr Tunde Ajibade, your new class teacher. I will also be a subject teacher to take you Further Mathematics. Before any further comment, each of you shall tell me your names one after the other,” he paused to suck in a long breath. Teacher Tunde scanned through the class with his eyes covered with goggles. He pointed to the right side and said, “Here is where I start. You there, please introduce yourself!”“My names are Segun Adegbite,” said the first boy.“You are my brother’s namesake,” Teacher Tunde teased.“I am Nkechi Ozurumba,” a girl said.“Good! That is exactly my aunty’s name,” the teacher said, stroking his moustache.“My name is Tope Babalola.”“Bisi Akande is my name.”“Shola Adeyemi sir.”“Mariam Halimat.”“Ade Balogun.”“Williams Bright sir.”“Saka Abdullahi.”Teacher Tunde pointed at a boy who had just said his name in an inaudible manner. He wanted to hear him clearly, so he asked once more:“What is your name boy?”“Sunday Matthew sir,” the boy shouted.“Next!”“Monday Mark is my name,” said the boy next to Sunday Matthew. Another boy was up to say his name.“My name is— ”“Tuesday Luke, isn’t it?” the Teacher Tunde cut in. Everyone laughed.“No sir, I am Wednesday John!” the boy blew up a big lie. The class went in uproar. They were just catching fun. All the students except mentioned their names except one. He was one of the two biggest boys in the class. The other big boy is Wednesday John whose real name is Agbaje. Kazeem is the name of the one who refused to utter his name.Teacher Tunde felt it a slap on the face that a student dared his command. He began to draw close to the rebellious boy. He pointed at his face and asked once more, “I say what is your name?”The boy remained speechless, unperturbed and lackadaisical. It spurred up the anger of the teacher. A v-shaped wrinkle had formed on his shiny forehead. He was red-hot with anger.“Don’t you have a name? Are you deaf?” the teacher pushed the question to him once more. The boy ignored him and looked away. To the man’s shock, the boy lowered his head into his locker and picked a packet of biscuit and began to do justice to it, chewing them in a nosy manner. Teacher Tunde could no more control his temper. He surged forward, widened his palm and gummed a bashing slap up the big boy’s cheek .There was a loud roar. The boy had just charged at the teacher like a tiger ready to tear off a goat. Teacher Tunde was caught unawares. It shocked him to the marrow that a student could do that. He had to rush for escape, but a leg placed carelessly on the left aisle of the classroom toppled him. His bulgy stomach banged hard at the concrete floor. All mouth let laughter lose. “Ha! Ha! Ha! Ha!” the students laughed.

Teacher Tunde got up immediately. His attire had been stained with dust. His white had been stained from top to bottom. He was shy. He dusted his body and then feigned audacity. He was angry when he saw the mocking smiles on every cheek of students in the class.
The big boy didn’t seize to utter his noisy utterance which made him sound like a deaf and dumb person.

“Is he deaf and dumb?” Teacher Tunde said as if he was in control of the situation, though his shaky voice still made him sound edgy.

“Yes sir,” Wednesday John was quick to reply him to defend his friend, Kazeem. The class burst into another round of laughter. In the process, some desks at the front seats fell down, two beside the teacher while one landed right on his leg. They had turned the class into a frenzied scene.

“Oooouch!” Teacher Tunde screamed. The students rushed to him to get the desks up.

“We are sorry sir!” they begged him, but he was not ready to listen. He walked out of the classroom and shook his head in shock.
Teacher Tunde sat on his seat in the staffroom and placed his hands over the back of his neck. Mr Hassan, the teacher sitting next to him, asked what was wrong.

“Nothing,” Teacher Tunde said.

“But your cloth is stained somehow,” Mr. Hassan said.

“Oh…a silly girl was raising dust with a broom and I get stained. Aside that, nothing else,” Teacher Tunde lied.

“Are you sure nothing is wrong?”

“Nothing,” the man said again. Then they began to chat happily. With such, Teacher Tunde whiled away his lesson period, though some students came to his window to say they were sorry. If only the boy who charged at him was among them, he would have listened and go back to the class with them. But the boy, Kazeem, was nowhere to be found.
It was time to mark the register. Teacher Tunde had to return to SSS2C to take their attendance, since not taking it could implicate him.

“Good afternoon s—”

“Don’t greet me!” the teacher shouted at them to cut them short at once. He was not interested in their greetings anymore. Did they not greet him earlier too and ended up humiliating him.

Teacher Tunde pointed to Kazeem and the boy reluctantly came forward.

“What’s wrong with you? Why did you shout on me that way? Are you deaf and dumb?”

“Yes!” a reply came, but not from the boy in question. It was his friend, Wednesday John, whose real name is Agabje.

“Hey, you said he is deaf and dumb?” Teacher Tunde asked Agbaje.

“Yes he is,” Agbaje lied. The class burst into laughter again. Teacher Tunde was angry.

“Class, why are you laughing? Is he lying?”

“He is saying the truth!” the whole class chorused. They would have come out clear and say the truth but for the fear of what Kazeem and Agbaje would do to them later, they kept shut.

“That means you were laughing at me that I fell down earlier, isn’t it?”

Teacher Tunde ordered the class, excluding Kazeem and Agbaje, to be on their knees for making jest of him. He flogged them one after the other. When it was the turn of a small girl, Bisi, to get her own lashes, she raised her hands to say that he was going to tell the truth, but Agbaje’s threatening leer at her made her change her mind. Her yell mingled with the thin air as she screamed in pain. Only Kazeem and Agbaje, the bad boys in class, were spared of the cane, yet they were the ones behind the whole hullabaloo.

The whole saga was dramatic. The teacher was finding it hard to believe that he was scared out of life by a student of his school, who would be under his tutelage. He had never believed similar stories told by some teachers in the past about students torturing their teachers. He feared similar case was gradually creeping in on him.

Teacher Tunde made a resolution to never in any way beat, slap or have conflict with any big student of the school until he retires. He would even avoid carrying a cane with him to avoid the temptation of beating anyone with it, he thought fearfully.

Kazeem knew he had accomplished his first mission when he saw the look on Teacher Tunde’s face. He was never dumb, neither was he deaf, but it was a plan to test new teachers. They do it in turns on every new teachers coming to their class the first time. Sometimes it was Agbaje who would act the deaf and dumb boy while Kazeem would be the one to speak for him. But in the case of Teacher Tunde, it was vice-versa.

Kazeem is a terror to students as well as teachers of the school alongside Agbaje his best friend. No teacher would double-cross them and go scot-free, except one teacher, Mr Goriola. Kazeem and Agbaje had broad shoulders and deep voices. They already had beards on their lower jaws and would intentionally let them grow, just to scar teachers and mates.

CHAPTER TWO

CHAPTER TWO
Teacher Tunde walked to school the next day. He was the second teacher to enter the staffroom. Mr Hassan had just arrived four to five minutes earlier. Teacher Tunde noticed a well-folded piece of paper on his desk and picked it. He unfolded it and read the content to his dismay:

Tunde or what is that your name sef? You go use your dirty hand slap Uche face yesterday abi? You no dey look Uche face before you act? So wetin you go do now be say, as you don sampaper Uche face nah, you go kon go look for one big HIGHER EDUCATION notebook and fill am up say ‘Me no go slap any pesin wey big like Uche again for my life till the time wey I go retire’. If you don finish am, check us for under that guava tree beside Food Canteen. We go dey wait for you there, you hear?’
Teacher Tunde sensed horror. He stroked his beard to ease off the tension. Mr Hassan noticed him. The letter was not over yet. Teacher Tunde had to read the remaining part of it:

Mind you, if you dare show this letter for prinicipal abi any teacher for this school, we go multiply the beating wey we wan give you before. Nor go feel say na joke o; a word is enough for person wey wise. Have a nice day.
Teacher Tunde groaned and sweated as he sank into his seat. He began to wipe the beads of sweat off his body. His white shirt was soaked and his flesh stuck to it. Teacher Tunde’s white handkerchief, which was in his shirt pocket, was already wet too, but he used it to rub off the sweat on his body.

“Mr Tunde, is anything wrong?” Mr Hassan asked him curiously. At first Teacher Tunde was absentminded and didn’t hear him. Eventually, he
responded, “No—no p-problem at all Mr Hassan. This note here is only informing me of the new date fixed for the final burial ceremony of my deceased father in the village…and…and…that’s all.”

“Oh…sorry, I express my condolence sir. I wasn’t aware of the death of your father. Please when did it happen?” Mr Hassan spoke unconvinced. He was suspicious somehow.

“He died just last month at age 95,” Teacher Tunde lied.
Teacher Tunde has been fatherless for the past twelve years and his father had been interred since then. Chief Ajibade died at age 72 and not 95 as his son just said now. Teacher Tunde had to tell a lie to conceal the real content of the letter from the curious teacher beside him.
Mr Hassan was not satisfied with Teacher Tunde’s response. He was overzealous, wanting to know the real issue, so he said, “Sir, but you picked this paper on this desk; did they leave it here for you or what? I thought the postman would have taken it to your house instead of here. Please can you let me see it so that—?”

“Enough!” Teacher Tunde shouted at him. “Mr Hassan, why do you delight in encroaching on other people’s privacy, poking your nostrils into issues that doesn’t really concern you?”

“I am sorry Mr. Tunde, sir. I only thought I could be of help to—”

“Sorry for yourself, busybody! Who solicit your help?” the teacher shouted vindictively at him.

“Forgive me, I will never do that again,” Mr. Hassan showed penitence. He was confounded that Teacher Tunde who was nothing but a jovial fellow just the day before, could suddenly turn into a temperamental personality. They had cracked series of jokes together the day before.
Mr Hassan would have no one to be rather than himself if their one-day friendship got terminated and nipped in the bud. He was going to work on his bad attitude of nose-poking and mind his own business, thus he would not lose his friends, he thought.

Mr. Hassan left Teacher Tunde alone in the staffroom to teach. As soon as he left, the new teacher heaved a sigh. His mind was not at rest at all. He was still awed by the whole happening. How would he write those things he was asked to write without being seen by any teacher in the staffroom? He thought. What strategy would he use to fill up a 160 page Higher Education notebook within 48 hours?

“How fast will I write to meet up with the deadline?” he soliloquized. If he chose to write it in the staffroom, Mr. Hassan would notice it. He was going to adopt a very bold handwriting so that he could meet up.

“If I do that, will they not reject it? Would I not be punished and asked to repeat it?”

Teacher Tunde shook himself off every fear. Why should I be scared of mere students? he thought. Teenagers for that matter. It would be better for him to report the case to the principal, he thought.

Teacher Tunde rose up and began to make for the principal’s office. When he was near the office, a young boy came close to him and brushed his shoulders with his own, passing a note into his hand.

Teacher Tunde read the note and saw We are Brutal Brothers. Hope you are not going to meet the principal about our matter. If so you won’t leave the school premise alive today!

Teacher Tunde was scared. He just turned around when he got to the door of the principal’s office. He already had a lesson period, but he was not in the mood to teach. The threat letter had ripped off the zest in his blood. He wished it never happened; he wished he hadn’t slapped that boy.

Teacher Tunde returned to the staffroom. For minutes, he bowed his head and soaked his brain in the pool of thought. He was jolted out of his pensive mood by the voice of the principal who just got into the staffroom.

“Mr. Tunde, what are you still doing in the staff room by this time?” the principal said. “Your students said they have come to call you, but you haven’t shown up, why?” she added.

“I’m sorry ma,” he apologized. “I will be with them immediately.

“Are you not aware that you’re a new teacher in this school? So…you can’t afford to skip classes just anyhow because you are on probation. Hurry up and perform your duty. Your lesson period will soon be over.” She turned around to leave.

“Excuse me ma,” Teacher Tunde called. She turned on her heels and said, “Yes, what is it you want to say?”

“I-I-I am not f-feel-ing f-fine today,” he stammered.

“So, how may I help you?” she asked.

“I-I want you to grant me a two d-day off duty,” Teacher Tunde stuttered in disbelief.

“Hey Mister teacher, two days work, two days leave, right?” the principal exclaimed and walked away, throwing the teacher into a more confused state.

Teacher Tunde soliloquized:

“Why am I in this mess? In just two days here I’m facing all these. Oh! My God!”

Teacher Tunde made up his mind to take laws into his hands. If she wouldn’t grant her the sick leave he demanded, he would do himself favour by staying at home to do the assignment dished to him by his students to avoid being punished.

Again, he promised himself that he would do without cane for the rest of his stay in the school.

CHAPTER THREE

THE BULLIES AND THE COWARDS
Kazeem assured his colleagues that teacher Tunde would surely not be around to take them his period. He knew it would happen because of the assignment he gave him to do the day before. It would be too much for the teacher.
Kazeem was sure the teacher took a day off to do it, so he made the class a centre of terrorism for his colleagues during Teacher Tunde’s lesson period.

It was already 10am but there was still no sign that Teacher Tunde would show up in school. Kazeem smiled happily to himself as if he had achieved a very big feat. He held fast to a cane and threatened his colleagues with it. Agbaje his friend was with him to intensify the torture.
Everyone knew Kazeem and Agbaje for their rebellious acts in the past. Despite the fact that both friends were boarders and not supposed to go out of the school compound, they were found on several occasions mingling with girls in town. Only was of their teachers was not afraid of them—Mr. Gori. They had plotted to humiliate him too someday.

Kazeem had just slapped Shola when Mr. Gori entered. He quickly threw away the cane he had with him and rushed to his seat, but he was late, the muscular man had seen him already. Seeing Mr. Gori from far, one would pass him for the world wrestling champion of that time, The Ultimate Warrior!

Mr. Goriola hardly beat with cane. Instead he would engage his students in a wresting as a form of punishment. He would put them on headlock and hook them on the neck until they would have no base for their legs. Then he would sit on them and put up his hands eventually to show that he was the champion.

“Come here, you plonker!” Mr. Goriola barked to call Kazeem who was fleeing to his seat. Agbaje was faster. He had sat just a second before the teacher’s head propped in from the entrance door. Mr. Goriola had a very deep voice, tall, stout and sturdy. He was a middle-aged man with a choleric feature. His bald head reflected the ray of the sun peering on it from the half-open windows.

Mr. Goriola was an introvert to the core. He was very strict with both teachers and students. He was the type of person a bragging parent would see and change the topic as soon as he or she sets eyes on him. A parent had once come with his child to revenge the teacher’s rough-handling of his daughter. When he saw Mr. Goriola’s broad shoulders, he began to stammer. He didn’t say any reasonable thing till he left.

The students of BBBS had nicknamed him ‘Gorimapa’ because of his bald hair and some would even call him ‘Gorilla’ since it sounded like Goriola his real name and because he had a stature like a gorilla for real. They dared not address him with those names publicly.

Mr. Goriola related with neither his co-teachers nor his students. Such was the reason why no student could approach him to report any case of two-fighting. They feared him so much. Even the few ones who had psyched themselves up to report their colleagues to the teacher would end up giving it up at his sight.

Mr. Goriola’s lesson periods were the moment needles and pins would speak because human beings would keep silent. You would hear the sound of your pen as it struck the floor—dead silent. No creature dared moved whenever he was in a class. They had to pass excreta or urine on their seats if they had any to pass while he was in there or they endure to the end of his lesson period. The students were always fond of the habit of visiting the toilet during the lesson period preceding Mr. Gori’s own, so that they would be light and ready for him.
He was a Geography teacher.

“Kneel down there!” he shouted at Kazeem. His forehead made five concentric v-shaped wrinkles as he shouted. He had them permanently on his face.

Mr. Goriola taught the student without a single hic. When his lesson period was over, he flexed his muscles and raised Kazeem up by the neck such that his leg could not make contact with the ground anymore. Kazeem wriggled and shouted. He was losing his breath. Mr. Goriola threw him hard at the floor and sat on him.

Nobody dared laugh, else it would be a two-sided punishment for them; one from Mr. Goriola who needed perfect silence and the other from Kazeem and Agbaje as soon as the teacher had left.

The students heaved a sigh of relief when Mr. Goriola eventually left the class. It was as if they had held their breath for sometimes now. Some of them smiled at Kazeem’s calamity and Agbaje noticed them. He was trying to help Kazeem get up on his feet again.

Agbaje, nicknamed ‘Agba’ by his colleagues, went to the smiling ones and gave them a knock each on their head. They threatened to report him to Mr. Gorilla and he sarcastically gave them the go-ahead. They couldn’t do that.

Meanwhile Kazeem and Agbaje were ruling the class, Teacher Tunde was busy at home trying to double up to meet the deadline given to him by his students. The second day of his absence, he was on the fiftieth leaf of the exercise book. It was 8pm then. Teacher Tunde was still very active, because he was determined to finish it up before the next morning. Suddenly, there was power failure. Quickly, Teacher Tunde placed a lantern on the table and continued. Earlier, his wife had filled up the lantern with kerosene before she left for duty. Teacher Tunde would have preferred a rechargeable electric lantern, but the one they had just got spoilt few days back and it was with a ‘radionic’ who was trying to get the stereo on it to work as it were before.

Teacher Tunde had no fear that anyone would see what he was penning down since his wife had been to work. He had lied to her that he was given two-day off from school to meet up with the lesson note. When his wife was getting close to seeing what he was writing, he flipped it close and made love with her.

Around 10pm, sleep came knocking at his eyelids. They were getting closed. Teacher Tunde’s grip on the pen was getting loosed as he began to scribble jargons in the book. He fell on the book and began to snore, his saliva running out of his mouth.

Teacher Tunde got up with a jolt as if Kazeem and Agbaje had just flogged him out of his sleep. He sprinkled clean water on his sleepy face, perhaps it would help him keep awake to some extent. He also poured himself a coffee which he hurriedly made with a lukewarm cup of water.
The gates were shut—the gates to his eyes—at exactly 2am. The only thing he saw was untold nightmare. The snores he had were horrible. The coffee must have worked in his system to add more to the ugly beauty of his nightmare.

Luckily for him, he had set an alarm for 6pm.

Griiiin! Griiiin! The alarm clock rang on and on, but the man was far gone. The cushion chair he made for a bed was soaked in his spittle. Not until Sarah returned from duty that he woke. It was already 8am and he was late already.

Teacher Tunde scampered for water in the bathroom. He perfunctorily took his bath and fluttered out of the bathroom in a flash. He picked the 80 Leaves Exercise Book and scribbled into the blank pages left, just five pages remaining before sleep slapped him at night.
In less than 10 minutes, Teacher Tunde was on his way to school. He hadn’t tasted breakfast, despite the fact that Sarah offered him. The handbag he carried had his ID card and the notebook in it. Now he was faced with the fear of what the principal would say concerning his absence and his late-coming.
“At most I would be dismissed once and for all,” he settled for the worst as he made haste to get to the staff room.

Good day to the followers of this story...
Here is another update, your comments are needed, pls

As expected, Teacher Tunde was welcomed back to school with queries from the principal. He lied to the woman that he was sick. After all said and done, the principal allowed him to be—at least he had informed her earlier but she didn’t give him a go-ahead.
Teacher Tunde trudged to SSS2C wearily. Everyone stood up, except Kazeem and Agbaje. Why would they be on their feet to greet a teacher that was afraid of them? They must have thought.

“Good morn…”

“Don’t greet me!” he said with a weak voice. “Sit down everybody.” Teacher Tunde yawned into his fist. He was only there to mark the register. He did it as fast as he could and began to leave the class as slow as he came. Teacher Tunde feebly clambered on the staircase of the staff room. Of course, his tiredness was as a result of the compulsory vigil he kept overnight to finish the homework his students gave him. Partially too, his weakness was caused by his hunger state, since he didn’t have the time to take breakfast in the morning.

An hour to break time, Teacher Tunde had begun to see blurred images of every movable and unmovable objects. Every far object began to look as if they were close to him and dancing like an electron orbiting the nucleus of an atom. Teacher Tunde’s condition became worst as a result of the strong ache which had just descended on his head. It was as if an axe was powerfully passed down into the center of his head to split it in two.

Teacher Tunde seemed like someone who would not last the next five minutes. Suddenly, like someone who had just been bitten by a scorpion, Teacher Tunde thumped up and began to head for the cafetariat with a very unusual speed. Mr Hassan was surprised, but he was mute because of the misunderstanding they had few days back. He had even tried to engage Teacher Tunde in a discussion earlier, but the latter had ignored him. When he greeted Teacher Tunde that morning, he only responded through his nose.

In the actual sense, Teacher Tunde wasn’t a malicious person. He hardly kept malice with someone. His lack of positive response to Mr Hassan’s greeting that morning was not because he meant it, but it was a response to the hunger rumbling in his stomach.
Indeed, a hungry man is an angry man.

Teacher Tunde ordered for a mixture of cooked rice and beans at the cafeteria. The food was well garnished with meat and egg. Teacher Tunde held the spoon handle and poked it into the food like a labourer who was holding tight to a spade to sink it into a pack of sand. To call a spade a spade, the man was the hungriest person on earth at the moment.

Teacher Tunde lifted the food before his wide-opened mouth; a rough hand pulled at his shoulder and he suspended his motive and looked behind him. His eyes met with the eyes of a strange masculine figure who was on school uniform. Two other big figures stood beside him. On the left of the strange figure was Kazeem while Agbaje was on the right. The name of the anonymous being in question was Orji.
Orji was notorious for causing pandemonium in the school at several occasions. He had many scars all over his body. Orji had once been caught for attempted rape; he had also caused a lasting riots in the school at countless occasions and his name had entered the school’s black book for five to six times.

“What do you want from me?” Teacher Tunde asked. His voice had given him away once more—a shaky type. Teacher Tunde wouldn’t let go the spoon of rice as beans as he spoke.

“The food,” orji demanded with authority in his voice. Orji’s voice was too deep and unsuitable for a boy of his age. He was just 22, one of the oldest students in the school. His school term had been extended all because of his countless moment of suspension from school. If he was not the son to the former principal of the school, maybe he would have been expelled many years back. The day Orji would have gotten an expulsion, he promised never to be rude anymore. His father came to the school too, to apologize and he was given the last chance. Since then, two years back, Orji had ceased operating openly, but secretly and no one suspected that he was still the same. Now Orji was in SSS3 while Kazeem and Agbaje werein SSS2.

Teacher Tunde dropped the spoon inside the mass of rice and glumly, he left the cafetariat with sweat all over him to wipe off. The food vendors opened their mouths wide for shock as they saw the students feasting voraciously on their teacher’s food. It was an incomprehensible scene to them.

Teacher Tunde trudged back to the staff room, cursing under his breath. Why am I cowed by ordinary students—those wicked cows?” he soliloquized. His fear was hinged on just one fact—he didn’t want to take chances. He would inquire about them first before swinging to action. Perhaps they were just toothless bullies who only bragged about, or they were as dangerous as they appeared to be. Tears force itself down his right cheek. He didn’t want to lose the job he had hankered after for years—his salary was fat enough.

When Teacher Tunde returned to the staff room, Mr. Hassan noticed the tears on his face, something Teacher Tunde had wiped off with his fingers earlier, but a trace was left, unknown to him.

“Mr. Tunde, are you weeping?” Mr Hassan whispered.

“Who told you I’m weeping?” Eeh, answer me?” Teacher Tunde shouted at him. “Mind your own business, I have always been saying!”

“I’m sorry, so, so sorry, Mr Tunde!”

Teacher Tunde didn’t listen to his apology. He rose to his feet and left the staff room instead. The hunger in him had come to a critical state.
Soon afterwards, the principal noticed Teacher Tunde’s sad disposition. She sent for him and asked him what actually was wrong. The man was almost going to let the cat out of the bag, but fearfully he told a lie: “That’s my nature ma. Thanks a lot, I will change.”

Though your diction is up to par, i find the story line strange and unrealistic.
