maestroferddi:I actually did not expect this to make any sense to you. I did not expect the fact that it is wrong that we are being financially colonized by our own making to make any sense to you. I did not expect it to make sense to you that it is our fault that in spite of having refineries we still export crude and buy back the refined products. I did not expect it to make sense to you that that does not make sense. I did not expect it to make any sense to you how it is our fault that all the oil money we have clamoured over, killed for, stolen and said we wanted more control over is only about half of what we produce. The other half is quietly pocketed by foreigners who know how to drill because the highly sophisticated people that we are are not yet able to drill our own oil. I did not expect it to make sense to you how it is wrong and our fault that almost all the beverages we buy in Nigeria are non-Nigerian. Cardbury is not Nigerian. Nestle is not Nigerian. I did not expect it to make sense to you that it is our failure that has made it such that utilities such as soap and detergents are mainly produced by foreigners here in Nigeria. Lever Brothers are not Nigerian. Ariel is not Nigerian. Klin is not Nigerian. I also did not expect it to make sense to you that we cannot blame anybody when companies like the DANA group silently dominate the market with plastic products (DANA Plastics), drugs (DANA pharmaceuticals), RICE and buiscuits (DANA foods), cars (DANA motors) and even DANA air while the young Nigerian dreams and hopes that he can just get employed in any of these companies. He is so excited that it is a big testimony for him. I did not expect it to make any sense to you that something has to be wrong with the owners of this country when foreigners keep trooping in everyday, establishing businesses and getting rich while we complain about an unenabling environment (as if these Indians and Lebanese were born here). I did not expect these and many more to make any sense to you because it would seem that when it comes to properly self-analyzing, with a view to making any real progress, you don't have any sense |

coolscott:I will confess that it is quite tasking to honour your simplistic blabbings with a rejoinder. Take a look at major economies like China, Japan and even the US. Each country has a sizable chunk of foreign direct investment. How do you achieve economic prominence by getting stuck in the rut of exclusivity amidst the current realities of globalization? The attainment of high local content in the economy is not what you get by wishful thinking. There are technical and sundry considerations that must be taken into account. In any case, it is not as if the companies you enumerated are monopolies in their respect markets:the fact is that there are indigenous competitors vying for the market share. At the opportune moment, the vagaries we are witnessing at the moment would be equalised by the laws of demand and supply. What is important is that the economy is undergoing serious organic and structural growth. I am very sure that we shall get there if we sustain the current momentum. Gradually, we are addressing our balances of trade and payment deficits by gaining sufficiency in such commodities like cement, rice and several agricultural products. Note that in the nearest, Nigeria will become a net exporter of rice. You don't expect recession accumulated by decades of misrule and mismanagement to be righted by a wave of hand. Part of solving a problem is acknowledging the attendant constraints. |

EroZA:Your question was; CAN NIGERIANS DO WITHOUT THE SERVICES OFFERED BY SOUTH AFRICANS? My answer is, "YES". I justified my answer based on your question. As for your response, especially the highlighted ones, I'll calmly conclude that you know nothing about Nigerians, and I'll stop there because your intention is far more malicious than sincere and objective. More importantly, TIME IS CASH. |

Nigeria is the only country where foreigners will dominate our economy and still try to treat the country like we are crap. Even Kenya, Ghana or Uganda did not tolerate such treatment by foreigners. We should impose appropriate taxes on those erring companies and even more such as banks etc that have abused our hospitality. If they don't like it, let them leave our country alone. We have Glo,Etisalat etc to absorb MTN customers. We have other cable TV to take over from DSTV. As for shoprite, their presence is more of a nuisance. We should also confiscate any money being transferred from our economy to South Africa and cite relevant areas of our law that makes us think it is money from a criminal enterprise. Even if SA government writes to inform those companies are legal by their laws, we should simply ignore the phools. |

EroZA:Here we go again with another rubbish... Like dude, you need to quit it. 1. You called MTN, and I gave you reason why MTN will likely take a beating should it exit the Nigerian market. Despite MTN operating in 22 countries + other non-hub, Nigeria controls 30% of it's revenue and 37% of it's global subscribers are Nigerians... So much for they are operating in other countries... LMAO 2. You really need to go take your medicine; foreign policy goes hand in hand with foreign investment. That Nigeria and SA are hostile to each other, how does that prevent American, Europe or Russian investors from investing in Nigeria? Even at the height of Boko Haram, Nigeria witnessed the highest FDI in the whole Africa.... Son, keep the dream alive.3. Lol... Uniquely South African? What's uniquely South African if I want to place a call with MTN mobile or Globacom? Don't they operate on the same platform and technology? What's unique about Shoprite when I can purchase the same from Walmart... Really, you need help. You've been believing your own hype for too long, time to snap out of it. 4. ROTFLMAO... Look for other countries? I want it to start now... While yall are leaving, there's room for bigger companies to compete for 170 million consumers. ![]() 5. Your foolishness is legendary; small / medium enterprise is what drives an economy. Nigeria has no intention on commercial warfare but indirect economic infliction. Nigerian economy isn't saturated enough; we're trying to fulfill domestic demand, after about 10 to 15 years, after our economy is satisfied, Nigerians will do what they do best: flood SA with cheap goods like China is doing to the U.S., go and mark my words. So there isn't any need for big business. China and Russia are huge threats to the U.S.; China flooded U.S. with their products, how many Chinese firms do you see in the U.S.? Use your head man.. 6. President Jonathan was in SA on Tuesday and assured all of these? Wonderful! Isn't this contrary to the news on foreign media sites? Keep believing your own hype... It will start out with MTN.. Globacom and all other telecom companies are getting anxiously ready for the takeover should our relation go sour. 7. It would be better if the money is released with a penalty on it as well.. 8. Arrant nonsense... When Europe sanctioned Russia, did Russia not retaliate? Don't take the beef with Nigeria and SA as the whole world. The world has more than 200 nations, more than 50 countries in Africa, having an issue with one is not having it with all.. Get it right. Nigeria will defend herself and her policy if need be. |

The whole content of your essay is about MTN,there are over 100 south African companies doing business in your country...if Nigerians are capable of creating companies that can match those, what are you guys waiting for? Do you think if your country was great would import even tap water from SA?I understand where you coming from, keep on deceiving yourself but the truth is on the ground,SA is your master.. manny4life: |

EroZA: ![]() No doubt about that when it needs someone to do the dirty jobs such as, Nigerians to volunteer for Ebola work in Liberia, or need African votes for the bombing of Ghadaffi or to contribute troops against Al-Shabab in Somalia. ![]() |

EroZA:Some peculiarities in Nigeria's setup has made it impossible for Nigerian government or private citizens to run big companies without the allegation of nepotism and regional favoritism.Which is sometimes substantiated by usually frivolous. Even Dangote cement and other products gets that allegation amongst Nigerians but they're widely accepted overseas. That is why South African companies are popular amongst Nigerians because they invest purely based on what makes business sense and hire the locals in whatever state they operate. Having said that, it is foolhardy of you to think that because SA companies are popular, there are no Nigerian alternatives. MTN,DSTV,Skye bank etc all have Nigerian equivalents. We do want the South African companies here in order to foster competition which leads to better services. However, if SA becomes an obviously hostile country towards Nigeria, Nigerians will agitate for our government to make their lives complicated here. Just as SA had always made sure Nigerian companies couldn't operate within their shores. |

EroZA:Lmao, remember I said your foolishness is legendary. ![]() Majority of my writeup is about MTN because MTN is the "LARGEST" company in Nigeria by size and revenues. You still don't get it: SA companies are in Nigeria to "SUPPLEMENT" not "FULFILL" the need. SA companies in Nigeria is a testament that Nigerian economy is on the boom and even your good ole MTN is living the boom. If we used MTN as an example, we control your company more than you think; Nigerian controls 30% of your global revenues (MUCH MORE GREATER THAN SA CONTRIBUTES), and expelling your companies should it come down to it would be a good start to stifle their returns back home. We would see who will bend out of shape after this; Nigeria and Nigerians could not be intimated when the U.S. stalled their effort on weapon acquisition, imposition of Boko Haram, and even the recent Ebola Outbreak, SA would be a piece of cake to handle. Let us watch out and see who the master is ![]() |

if 1 million Nigerians are using mtn callertune unknowingly.. means mtn is stealing 50 Million Naira every Month from Nigerians. 1. they get you auto activated for 1 week without your approval... 2. they deduct your money without even giving you notice of expiry if maybe you are not even interested for it again. they dedut your N50 even if its the last money you got on your phone. 3. more than 2million people ( Guessed) using this callertune without their interest ( N100 Million scammed off Nigerians Monthly ) and good this dude open our eyes now.. |
