What you have said is true and the PDP would definitely capitalize on the ethnic/tribal card to fight a Fashola candidacy.

But lets examine it this way, imagine Nigerians are presented with a GEJ vs Fashola choice?..

If this scenerio arises, first of all, I can bet my last buck the entire southwest and Lagos would go for Fash.

Secondly, even though the domineering and tribalistic northerners would be greatly disturbed and sickened that APC isn't fielding a northern Hausa-Fulani candidate, I can bet my last buck they would rather have a Fashola meal instead of a Jonathan any day; in fact, they would rather vote a goat instead of Jonathan.

Lastly and most importantly, the Jonathanians of the SE and SS extraction; I can assure you that most of these people do not really like Jonathan and most are actually aware of his incompetence and shortcomings. The support for GEJ is rather due to a hatred for the domineering attitude of the North. While a lot would still remain Jonathanians, I am sure a lot of these people would reconsider their Jonathanian allegiance if they are presented with a non-Hausa-Fulani northerner. Fashola is the only candidate from the APC that can have this effect on the SS/SE
This analysis makes sense, but this election is not about just who the Ibos want, Sorry. It is not about pacifying the South East because of their perceived annoyance at Northerners and Muslims. If Fashola is put forward they will still look for a reason to denounce him. This election is about snatching Nigeria back from the jaws of death which corruption has gripped it. Fashola will make a good President but can he get the votes? Will he be his own man or will he remain a puppet in the hands of certain strong men in the South West? I believe Buhari setting a four year precedence of law, order and accountability will lay down the foundation for the likes of Fashola, Okorocha, Amaechi, Saraki and Co to carry on in the future. Buhari can look any man in Nigeria in the eyes and carry out his duties without fear; Fashola, Okorocha, Amaechi, Saraki and Co still have men in that country in whose eyes they can't look. In. They will cower and lower their gaze when in their presence. Did you see the recent picture of Buhari and Atiku?

Exactly!

The people that have put Nigeria in a choke hold need to be weakened severely for Nigeria to grow. Those men are too young and inexperienced to even think of attempting talk less carry it out. Be realistic and forget all sentiments.

APC cannot win a national election if they are not bothered about votes from these regions; now we aren't talking about 100% of the votes but just a little chunk of it.
No state is made up 100% by its indigenes. APC will surely get chunks of votes in the SE and even in Bayelsa state and Jonathan too will get chunks of votes in Borno and Kano.

I agree with you, we strongly need a Buhari like personality to restore some order and sanity into the corruption ridden system before we start thinking of presidents with 'ideas.' My point is that, you cannot win an election by totally ignoring an entire zone; in fact not just a zone but the entire SS & SE (2 zones). In my opinion, a Fashola candidacy would gather 10 times more votes from these zones than a Buhari.

As much as I understand the dire need to firstly sanitize the system by a Buhari, I also think the first step to achieving this feat is to unseat the incumbent Jonathan. In my opinion, I dont think a Buhari candidacy can pull that off given the ethno, tribal and religious polarisation existing in Nigeria today.

Yeah but the chunks you need to win an election is a bit more than the random chunks you are referring to here.

Sometimes I get really confused. Please can someone Explicitly outline Fashola's 5 main achievements in Lagos state in 7.5yrs.

Quote me only if you've got a response to my question.
Tell us just two things President Jona has achieved in Nigeria since he became our president first and I will tell u more than 500 things Gov Fashola has done in Lagos state.

what Nigeria need is strong institutions and not strong men (who in actual sense are very weak)

Only strong men can put in place strong institutions. Jonaadaft is obviously weak and that explains years after being president, virtually all institutions around him are weak. Nothing suggest that that General is weak.

That is APC lies. All the current indicators does show that GEJ has performed very well. It is only in APC reports that GEJ has failed. From the Rail to Aviation, Agriculture, to power to Education to the overall economy, all the indicators says GEJ has done well. Even the very enthronement of true democracy through free and fair elections shows GEJ has done very well. Sorry. grin
What has he done? Did u hear that PDP has summoned the Minister of Works because of the impassible state of roads in Nigeria? Do u know the huge amount of money being claimed to av been spent on these roads without results? Yet the same Minister was given an Award by the President at our 54th Independence Anniversary celebrations. Look at the road that leads to A papa where the chunk of national income is being generated. What of the road that leads to the MMA (Airport).

Do u know that Federal Govt alone takes about 54% of the total allocation while the 36 states share about 42%.

My brother, statistics are there for u to confirm.

Are u happy with the way Nigeria is being disgraced in South Africa for laundering dollars? Pls let's forget about politics and review our status. Are we better off under him or worse off? That should be our question.

Out of 16yrs of democracy, Yorubas have ruled for 8yrs, So its only fair for a Yoruba man to take the back seat and allow others which was why most SW states voted Jonathan in 2011

Now we have a lot of the old brigade holding the country to ransom, The likes of OBJ, Danjuma, IBB, Clarke etc who think they are bigger than the nation and the only person these elites fear is Buhari.

Regarding ignoring a region , OBJ ignored the entire SW to be elected in 1999, Jonathan ignored the entire NE and NW in 2011.

No one needs to pander to the SE in 2015 because they have the smallest electoral value in the current Nigeria, they have the smallest number of states, Smallest population and they readily follow any govt in Power. Should Buhari win, the entire SE would be seen rolling over themselves to serve him like they did for YarAdua, OBJ, Abacha, IBB etc

We will also benefit from having a lawyer as President.

TBH because I am hoping for GEJ till 2019, I hope Buhari runs and Fashola goes to Senate and then lead the opposition from Senate and then prepare for Presidential run in 2019[
If I was struggling to make sense of your analysis, the underlined lost me.......... I was wondering on what basis is the comparison or your desire to have GEJ till 2019, when the pattern of this thread establishes the gross level of ineptitude, corruption and weak institution that pervades our country at the moment, makes me question if you really want a better country or a continuation of wallowing in the abyss. "........shall we continue in sin and as that grace may abound"
