Jon Schultz is a cigarette-thin man who will, upon requests for a photograph, don a ruby robe and strike a regal pose. Schultz is a businessman and he wants to look good. There’s money to be made everywhere — even off tragedy and disaster. For the right kind of entrepreneur, Shultz said Monday night, calamity affords a very unique business opportunity. And Schulz, merchant of disease domains, is that kind of entrepreneur.

Name a disease, and there’s a chance Schultz owns it. He has birdflu.com. He has H1N1.com. He has one for the deadly mosquito-borne disease, Chikungunya, and another for Marburg. And finally, there’s the jewel of his trove. Ebola.com, which Schultz bought in 2008 for $13,500.

The time for the payout has arrived. Schultz wants $150,000 for Ebola.com — a price he thinks is more than reasonable. “According to our site meter, we’re already doing 5,000 page views per day just by people typing in Ebola.com to see what’s there,” said Schultz, who monitors headlines the way brokers watch their portfolios, to gauge his domain’s worth. “We’re getting inquiries every day about the sale of it. I have a lot of experience in this sort of domain business, and my sense is that $150,000 is reasonable.”

He hasn't hurt anybody, so no biggie. It's just a domain name and there are several other options if no one is willing to buy ebola.com.

Strategic dude! wink

I agree this was very clever of him, but it also meant he had to hope there will be a global pandemic...which is kind of evil.

You see an evil-hearted guy, I see a businessman who thrives on the challenges that nature brings. Diseases have always come and gone, so no one really needs to 'hope' before some diseases spread.

That smart dude leveraged on the obvious and if he makes the money, it's clean. As long as he didn't culture the ebola virus in the 1st place, it's cool with me.

There is a twist to that which you've somehow managed to ignore. Ebola.com is only trending now because its a recent break-out.. The direct visit/ traffic to Ebola.com will drop drastically once it becomes a "sometime ago" event. ..

The site's hits are thriving now because he somehow seemed to have harnessed the trending news with the scientific breakdown of the disease...truth be told he has to sell NOW else, in like a year numerous backfeeds from Google will suffice for inquiries of curious minds....wikipedia, and loads of other health websites will do the job.....

He's simply cashing out when the frenzy is dying out....a bit late if you ask me...I would have sold it mid-year.....to beat out any chances of price slash @ frenzy drop and thrive on the uncertainty of its (Ebola) total end during negotiations....then link it up with charity groups for donations; more traffic and an appeal to a wider audience ( the curious, empathetic, and philantropic)...lol.

He held on too long jare....
