Rich4god:i wish to repeat my earlier statement, the church doesn't believe in divorce, the church thus has no "divorce process". I also wish to correct the impression that an anulment is equal to a divorce. They are too different things. An anulment says that there was no marriage ab initio. It say that from day one the so called marriage was null and void and of no effect. E.g if mr a did a wedding with mrs b and on the wedding night mrs b found that her mr a is impotent... Then she can apply for anulment and the marriage will be decleared null and void ab initio, because in cases of impotence marriage is not possible. A divorce says that there is a valid marriage and that after some time there were problems in the marriage so the patners became enstranged and prefer to be apart. A valid marriage cannot be anulled. If chimes marriage was annulled as you say, then certainly something happened "before" the wedding that made it null and void and of no effect ab initio. If there was no marriage ab initio then the parties can now seek for a valid marriage. As for "leniency", my question is how? How far should this leniency go? Does this leniency acknowledge the fact that the church doesn't have the power to dissolve a valid marriage? Does it remember that the church doesn't have the power to admit a new covenant when the old is still in effect. How is the church to be lenient. |

This is the mid synodal document, it is purposely ambigous. It can be read both ways and i had a hard time determining whether it is simply pastoral care or if there is something lurking under. www.zenit.org/en/articles/synod14-full-text-of-relatio-post-disceptationem i am really grateful this isn't the final document, if it were...i would be having a real interpretation problem. |

Ubenedictus:May the holy spirit continue to guide the synod as it discuses these family issues. Unfortunately western media has picked up on the notes on welcoming homosexual persons and taken this as a gradual change in doctrine. the document does make it clear that while its worth giving a better welcome to gays. this will not compromise established teaching. |

Ubenedictus:The good thing is that it is a document not a teaching, the teachings of the church remain the same and can't be changed. |

CoolKizzy:How abundant are the good things that you have stored up for those who fear you, that you bestow in the sight of all, on those who take refuge in you-----Psalms 31:19 As we unite in prayers today for you, may the good things from God be yours to keep, as you take refuge in Him. |
| Re: A Thread For Catholics by Syncan(m): 9:36am On Oct 14, 2014 |
Ubenedictus:It isn't a final document, some of those worrisome statements are just capturing the views of some bishops, the numerical strength I do not know. It is a trying time for the church and we should pray more. I look foward to the teachings of the church standing in the end, but I expect a whole lot of palliative language, which generally amount to nothing destructive to the teachings, just to encourage those who are in such unfortunate situation to a closer relationship with Christ. But I must say that the subtility in the use of language in that document is too "liberal". |

Good morning friends. since I have not been praying for you according to the roster, I hereby ask God to be with all of you in everyway. I will keep you in my prayer at the Blessed Sacrament Chapel. God bless you |
| Re: A Thread For Catholics by Ubenedictus(m): 3:26pm On Oct 14, 2014 |
Syncan:i also expect palliative languages and encouragement, the church needs to be present in the lives of all these people, i also expect something more definite, this document is very porous. There are phrases and principles here that lend themselves to a variety of interpretation. There is an interesting rowdiness about the synod, it seems everybody is playing the press game, card burke got tired of argueing inside the synod and brought his concerns to the press, those from south america seem very fluid on these issues and pope francis is preaching a good dose of mercy and generousity through out the synod. I am holding tight to my rosary. |
| Re: A Thread For Catholics by Ubenedictus(m): 3:31pm On Oct 14, 2014 |
dragon2:yeah, it isn't yet a teaching, it is just a report of what is happening in the synod. I am still a bit cautious though, there have been reports of a heavy disregard and redefinition of "church teaching" among church leaders. |

I am very afraid for the church at this time. I don't subscribe to the kid glove approach the vatican is giving to the issue of homosexuality. The church does not need to tone down on the language it uses to qualify gays and their practices. I feel more uncomfortable with the way western media are buzzing about an impending change in catholic doctrine to welcome gays. I pray that doesn't happen. We do not need to go against God's law because we want to make the Church more acceptable to sinners. We all should pray earnestly for the holy spirit to guide the Church @ this trying time. I fear for the vatican! |

freeradical:The holy spirit will always guide the church.Jesus said the gates of hell shall not prevail against it and we believe it.the church has always gone through testing times e.g. antipopes, reformation, contraception acceptance by other denominations etc but the church has always stood tall and stuck with its Orthodox teachings.have no fear, let's continue to pray for our bishops and Priests. |

Catholic bishops said Tuesday that they remain fundamentally opposed to homosexual relationships, tempering the message of a landmark Vatican report calling for a more positive approach to gay believers. Amid signs of a conservative backlash against the reform agenda being pushed by Vatican liberals supported by Pope Francis, bishops attending a special synod on the family called for "appropriate prudence" in the signals sent to the gay community. This was necessary, they said, "so that the impression of a positive evaluation of such a tendency on the part of the Church is not created," according to a summary of the latest discussions released by the Vatican. The warning shot came a day after a preliminary report on the synod's work made waves around the world by noting that "homosexuals have gifts and qualities to offer to the Christian community" and suggesting the Church should reach out to them. In a move that appeared to reflect misgivings over how that message has been interpreted, the Vatican's press office on Tuesday issued a statement downplaying the significance of the mid-synod report, emphasising it was only a working paper which had been given an importance it did not merit. Whatever its final significance, the tone of the report, with its emphasis on the need for both mercy and realism on the part of the Church, clearly reflects Francis's own "Who am I to judge?" thinking on the issue. But it could scarcely be further removed from official Church teaching, which maintains that same-sex relationships are "intrinsically disordered" and counsels gay believers to refrain from sexual relations........ .........Sources in the Holy See told AFP that a number of African bishops had been sharply critical of the prominence given to the issue of homosexuality in Monday's report, angrily pointing out that it had been addressed in only six interventions in a total of 180 over the first week of the synod. Such reservations were acknowledged in the latest Vatican update on the debates, which notes that participants underlined the virtual absence of the word "sin" from the mid-term report. The bishops also called for further reflection on the theological underpinning of the opening up to the gay community -- the so-called "principle of graduality" which provides for the acceptance of individuals living in irregular, or sinful, situations while the Church works with them to bring them into conformity with its rules over time. The synod is due to wrap up on Sunday and there will be another gathering of bishops and lay Catholics in October 2015 before Francis announces the conclusions, most likely in early 2016. https://au.news.yahoo.com/thewest/world/a/25259858/? |
