So because a 54 year old country is now enjoying 15 years of democracy and is struggling to get it right because of being new we're ready to say 'that is then'? You're right that is then and because that was then we are in the mess we're in NOW.

We haven't seen more growth, democratization, development, and achievements in this countries history than what we have seen under GEJ and Yar'adua.


Had democracy not been destroyed THEN we wouldn't be rebasing our economy today. There would have been several generations of Fasholas, Chime Sullivans, Liyel Imoke, Adams Oshiomole. There would have been generations of Eko Atlantics, Uyos and Golf and lifetime city. We would have dealt with AIDs with the efficiency and educated technocratic diligence that we dealt with Ebola before it was too late. We would have long privatized telecoms banking and power and seen those industries boom. We would have seen several generations of strong institutions. The fair and free elections GEJ has granted would have been mandatory and expected like in all long time democracies.

Dictatorships cause us all to start from the bottom, and I'm not going to justify killing journalists, imprisoning opposition, and dismantling the constitution as ok because it was a 'trend'. Underdevelopment is a 'trend' in africa as well, should we not hold leaders accountable for addressing it? Look at South Africa that didn't follow the dictatorship trend and look at Nigeria that did.
