First I wish to sincerely thank all those whom God used in one way or the other to make our october prayers successful, you all are wonderful people and I pray God to look favourably on our prayer and on you, October may have ended but the efficacy of our prayers lingers on. For those who for one reason or the other didn't join in the prayers, I pray that God's look kindly on you, and meet you at the point of your needs.

May the Lord almighty answer us beyond our expectations through Christ our Lord. Amen!

Today, we again celebrate the annual "ALL SAINTS' DAY" . A day we celebrate the known and unknown saints, a day we pray with the saints, look at the life of the saints. Meditate on their life and sayings, appreciate them for their good fight of faith. And try henceforth to emulate them.

It's also a holy day of obligation in the mother church,

Today we pray with the saints as they pray for us in unison before God.......

HAPPY ALL SAINTS' DAY BRETHREN smiley

Same to you Sis.

May their lives inspire us, and may the good Lord see us through, till the race is won.

How God will judge my life I know not, but I trust he will see me with mercy and compassion. I am only certain there will be three surprises in Heaven.
First of all, I will see some people whom I never expected to see.

Second, there will be a number whom I expected who will not be there.

And - even relying on God’s mercy - the biggest surprise of all may be that I will be there

What are your thoughts concerning the Church's teachings with regards to the number of Children a Catholic family should be open to?

I know the Church doesn't really state a number but it does frown at members who choose to have only one child.

A background info may help guide your answer...

A close friend is getting married tomorrow. The topic naturally was bothered around marriage and some of the Church's 'bitter teachings' as it regards this.

I was shocked when my friend (a young chap of no more than 33) suggested that he may go ahead and have close to 9 kids.

To say that I was shocked to hear this would be an understatement. In order not to catch his fever, I quickly told him that I want only one child. At most two!

Before I could seat back to feel cool about what I said he literally beat me silly with a number of quotes from the Popes concerning this matter. The dude almost took it personal.

I have also argued this with a female colleague (a member of Opus Dei) and she too was open to as many children as possible.

I felt those guys were not thinking straight. Considering that you are a clergy who seems to want to voice his thoughts vis-a-vis the teachings of the Church; what is your opinion?

I wouldn't want a text book answer.
interesting one! I am in a bad place right now, i'm not supposed to be holding a phone. But i'm acknowledging that i saw this question.

I'll be in a settled place in the evening.

If by any chance that 'bad place' happens to be the wedding mass of the Arch Bishop of Lagos at Epe, I won't mind a face to face discussion on this.

Probably!

Yes, I drove like an Id*t.

I guess my driving pattern is now being affected by my environment. When it was at the mainland, I was always careful.
hehehe, weytin concern where u dey stay and how u drive?

One's environment influences his pattern of driving, for the most part. I noticed this first hand.

I have driven in a number of states in the West, East, South and extensively in almost every area in Lagos. My findings are the same.

The level of care applied by motorists largely depends on some factors inherrent in that locality. Where competition is stiff, drivers tend to throw caution to the wind, unlike areas where the road laws are enforced religiously.

Eternal Father, I offer Thee the Most Precious Blood of Thy Divine Son, Jesus, in union with the masses said throughout the world today, for all the holy souls in purgatory, for sinners everywhere, for sinners in the universal church, those in my own home and within my family. Amen.---St. Gertrude.

The Holy Souls in Purgatory. Out of charity, out of justice, and out of excusable selfishness — they have such power with God! — remember them often in your sacrifices and in your prayers. May you be able to say when you speak of them, “My good friends the souls in purgatory.”---St.Josemaria Escriva (the Way).

Eternal rest grant them O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon them...

when i said i would discuss this yesterday i forgot it was all saints day, my day only opened up this night.

First there is no text book answers to your question, these are topics that I expect catholic couples to excercise a well informed conscience.

There is a point in natural law from which the church always operate from, i.e marriage is naturally order for procreation and the continued existence of our species. Scriptures put a premuim on having kids that "full the quiver". It is with this in mind that there is a promise in wedding ceremonies that say "i will accept all the children that God sends me", (that is a carefully crafted statement).

Then there is the reality on ground, several factors have to be considered, like the financial angle, mental angle, the physical angle, the emotional angle.... Then there is such a thing in catholicism as "Responsible parenthood". It is unwise to give birth to all possible kids one can bear, instead the couples must take into consideration the reality on ground an make a decision on how many kids they can bear and cater for.

Personally i think the churches teaching on this is wise, let each man and woman decide for themselves the number of kids they can bear and cater for. Personally i think your friend may have a good point, the mental picture i have of you seems to say you should be able to cater adequately for more than two kids (supposing your patner is as fit as a fiddle), your china's-one-child-family plan runs the risk of been looked at as been closed to life and probably more interested in looking at children as burdens.

I may be wrong in accessing you, but this issue is principally for the couples in question, there are many couples among whom i live who i think should have only 2 kids(personal opinion), there are others who have 5-6 kids who i believe got their stuff right. I also know a family with 11 kids all of whom i am happy to know. If your friend has a wife who shares his vision for children and she is mentally, physically and emotionally fit for that many (with maybe some cousins and grand parents to help out) and is financially stable with income that is able to take care adequately of those kids then i say Goodluck to him...big families can be a blessing.

There is only a right way to look at this there is no right answer and i do not discuss my opinion on the number of kids with couples i know. That is a decision for them to make.

As i look back the month, i get to see that it wasnt my driving skills that saved the day, but the Hand of God... Most times, its as a result of my carelessness, but all the same, i realy thank God for being there for me and my family...esp, my parent...
