Actually I am a biochemist ( a 200L student) and I love chemistry and bio as much as I love drinking garri. But this qus has always caused some unsettled doubt. Who is more important b/w a biochemist and a medical doctor. I once heard a guy say that the only difference b/w a biochemist and a medical doctor is that a biochemist can't operate on a patient. Let me hear ur view guys.

Nowadays, it seems virtually everybody wants to be more important than a doctor..No offense intended..Jux an observation..

A doctor will always feel he knows it all, so there is no hope for a biochemist in the medical field...

a biochemist can tell u what happens in a patient body when he has headache. a biochemist can prescribe what to use. physiology can be called a branch of medicine.

The problem is that most people commenting are not even in d field of medical science so they have little or no idea of what biochemistry is all about. I just finished my 100 L but I can tell u that I know far more than most 300 L level medical students.

It will be better if we improve upon what we have rather than trying to form what we are not.

I'm a biochemisty student doing my 200l 2nd semesta bt for u to say u know more than MOST 300 l MEDICAL STUDENTS is a lie...... biochemistry is not more important than medicine, bt without biochemistry there is no medicine....

YOUR department talks about Amino acids, fatty acids and glycogens...as well as handerson-hasselbach equations...

Thanks Thewhizzkid, :-) i can't abandon nairaland . OP i understand you're trying to console urself but comparing biochem to medicine is the wrong road to follow.

When it comes to medical pratice you can't do anything without MBBS unless you are a nurse, dentist or laboratory scientist, so stop being jealous.

The only reason I opened this thread was because I thought the op might have some interesting points. I was wrong. Dude, I'm studying Biochemistry too, but this thread is just a farce.
