The current impasse in the House of Representative over the removal of the security aides of Speaker Aminu Waziri Tambuwal took a new dimension on Monday as the All Progressives Congress (APC) members of the lower chamber hinted that they have catalogued offences committed by 'a higher officer of the Federal Republic' that could warrant impeachment. This is believed to be an allusion to President Goodluck Jonathan. This is as the legislators swore that no coalition or conspiracy can unseat the Speaker. The legislators, who had filed a case in an Abuja High Court seeking to bar any attempt at convening the House before its Dec. 3 date of resumption, told correspondents that the legislature is not subservient to the president. How can House of Representatives impeach a President in this country without the support of the Senate? Sometimes I wonder the calibre of politicians in HOR when compared with their counterparts in the Senate. Goodluck Jonathan is just a member of PDP and not the party itself that its mandate is being subverted by the opposition. The Reps should direct the threat to PDP as a party. 7 Likes |

Wetin person no go hear for Nigeria? How will the house of rep unilaterally impeach the president. APC does not even have the majority in the house of rep itself so how will they carry it through.. not to talk of how they will get the Senate to go along. Any sensible person reading this news will know that this is nothing but empty threats. It is far easier for the presidency to remove the speaker than for the speaker and his party to remove the president. |

All of a sudden APC now have the mind to threaten impeachment just because of a stolen mandate. This arrogance and insolence is the main reason why GEJ will draw the battle line against Tambuwal. I hope he is ready to fight. But its really surprising how as soon as Tambuwal defected, he started his media blackmail, its as if that's the motto of the party to use blackmail and insults to belittle the man but the funny thing is the man has really gone through a lot of fight from the opposition and so far so good for him. And for those that call him clueless, go to Bayelsa state and ask about the "Ogbia" people in the state, that's when you know that they are a hard hearted people. |
