MadCow1:LOL. You need to understand the role of determiner "the" in your examples. As well as where your apostrophe is placed You example is not okay here, bro |

Timijo:To start lemme clarify 's and s' 1. 'S is used when you talk about singular ownership 2. S' is used when you talk of plural ownership. And also 3. 'Cars are' in both sentences are treated as collectives so its like tlking abt a singular car. When you say "cars are parked at owner's risk" you are wrong because 'cars are' is now like a singular statement. In short all you need to perfect this sentence is cars are parked at the owner's risk. 2. 'Cars are parked at owners' risk' is very correct because owners' is a plural possessive and the 'cars are'[which is like singular] treats each owners' car. Am subject to criticism |

Olaone1:"The" in English language is known as 'definite article' and serves to specify a noun which in the case of the example I gave was 'the books'. Example: 'The Girl..' (meaning the speaker and listener both know who she is' My apostrophe positioning (before of after the plural noun) in my example serves to quantify (singular or plural) the ' possessive noun' which is; Boy. I hope it's clearer ... |

Cars are parked at owners' risk is correct. I have explained this in my previous post but I noticed that some people are not convinced because of what they have read on googles. I want such people to understand that that search engine called google is not a wizard. It is people like you and I that are writing the information that google is bringing out. It cannot be 100% correct at all times. Lemme replace the word ''owners'' with the word ''drivers'' in the sentence for better understanding. Cars are parked at drivers' risk, which means that cars are parked at the risk of drivers. If you write it like this: Cars are parked at driver's risk, you are referring to one driver who will park cars at the same time and this is not possible. If it is written as this, car is parked at driver's risk or car is parked at owner's risk, it is grammatically correct. |

sweetylicious:Sorry you are wrong. The intention is always to avoid liability on individual car basis. It has never been a group coverage. Let me ask you a simple logical question. If your car alone was parked at a lot on a given day and it got stolen, with your interpretation, will the company be liable? I think No. Reason being there must be at least one more car to make your definition work. I hope i have not confused you in anyway. If i did, please be assured it was not intended. Reading of this post is done at reader's risk...... Another example...director's.....single director Directors'....as a group or a board. Cheers. |
