It is very foolish most times when one hears about Nigerian higher institution students be it Polytechnic, Colleges of Education or University students not knowing what to do while in school so as to prepare for the future. I know some very lazy ones wont finish reading this and they want to be leaders Readers are leaders, they say.
You know it that, there isnt any job feasible for you to do after school so why wont you make yourself competitive? You think your seniors who graduated before you without jobs don't know what they are doing?
In fact, many will try to find a way out of the country but they fail to prepare adequately for that. There are scholarship opportunities to leave this country but it is not usually possible without a second class upper or first class. If you want to pay for schooling abroad, then your second class lower must be on the high side too. One thing you should bear in mind is what gives me leverage. What exams do I need to write? First of all, try writing a test of english exam before or after school like TOEFL or IELTS. If you want to study in the US, you should also try doing GRE. You can always take advantage of the fact that you are in school to do all these.
Another advice for students is to engage in good extracurricular activities while in school, it adds up to their CV and schools abroad look into things like this too for consideration for scholarships.
Learn also to read, learn to search for information and use it. You will be a big fool to be on nairaland and not learn from other threads about many other things. You will be a big fool to always finish your dataplan on facebooking, twittering, instagramming away. You would not make anything out of that except you are using the social networks to your advantage to learn new things. Also, learn not to waste money on buying the latest Iphone but invest in something worthwhile.
If schools go on strike again in Nigeria, what will you do? What other thing do you know asides your book?
Do you have business ideas? Have you thought of anything worthwhile asides your book?
Do you dare to be different? Do you dare to know more about things? You also have to know that making it in life is difficult, you have to give it all it takes. No pain, no gain. No gut, no glory. It doesnt take you anything to write to schools abroad, making enquiries youtrself. Always learn to ask if you dont know things. That's how life rolls. You are responsible for your own life, your friend is not.

@motherlode.....I think you should understand what is being written. It is a general statement and these are things that happen every time. I expect youths to read this and reflect on it including you. I am not in Nigeria and I'm based in Canada. I did my B.Sc and M.Sc in Nigeria before leaving for overseas. I get so many mails from people from Nigeria about coming to study abroad and so on. I have contributed to so many threads on nairaland about youth development, traveling out, business ideas and so on. Like I was saying, they send me emails but when I ask them questions about qualifications and co, you discover that they have nothing to show except a degree without additions to themselves while in school and so on. Schooling abroad is expensive and if you want to come through scholarships, then you have to prepare for it. You dont need to top your class to get scholarships but other things count. This is what this thread is trying to address. Students dont read, they dont add to themselves and they know so well that the Nigerian economy and government doesnt care for them. And a funny thing about life is that, you cannot blame the government or your parents or anybody whatsoever for your failures, you have to blame yourself. Life is not simple, it is not about having the best Iphone, tab or what have you. It is about developing one's self. I have done a lot here on nairaland and I think you should check my profile before talking. Learn to use the internet, check people's profile before commenting. I wouldnt exchange words with you here...... ALWAYS LEARN...

@psalmdave....thanks for the compliment but pick what you can learn from the write-up. You won't teach me how to write or post something on Nairaland at least...@motherlode...I don't need attraction here. Its for serious individuals...I have threads that have generated more than 8,000 views here on Nairaland so you should know its not about attraction. You don't have any ideas the number of emails I get from people here.
