A polytechnic graduate (names withheld) has committed suicide by jumping into a lake located at Aba Apata, Adegbayi, Oyo State over his inability to get a job after graduation.

Eyewitnesses said that the corpse of the deceased was still floating on the water but was identified from his certificates which he dropped at the bank of the river before taking his own life.

A fisherman in the area, Taofeek Dauda, narrated that: “His parents were here, and I told them to pay N30,000 so I can bring out the corpse with my canoe. I also told them that the money covers the materials we are going to use to perform some rituals before he could be buried, because it is very important to do such for whoever dies in this kind of circumstance.”

This highlights the sorry state of Nigeria presently, as security, unemployment and corruption continues to ravage the country.

So he would have preferred employment over life. He got it all wrong,when there's life,there's hope.

What a waste of life! What happened to hope? Doesn't he / she have talents or abilities to keep busy? Now he/she has gone to meet God and will give account of his / her life. After death comes judgement then heaven or hell.

Depression and Frustration....brother, why do you have to give in so easily.....what happened to that popular quote 'tough time never last'? . Of a truth, the unemployment crisis rocking our country could frustrate the strongest of us.

A country where nepotism and favoritism is the order of the day, where thousands would write test while some people would enter without interview or test, where ordinary test invitation sms/ e-mail sometimes could be worth more than precious ointment with unreasonably difficult and unfair questions that has never been and will never be a true test of intelligence, where GNLD disguise like Oil and Gas coys in a bid to lure graduates into drug hawking business,where graduates take up slavery job(contract) out of no choice,where you can no longer apply for most graduate trainee jobs once you are above 26years after wasting a whole year observing Nysc, where some coys would say you must have 5 distinctions in waec before you can be eligibe to apply for a graduate trainee role,where recruiters/interviewers ask graduate trainees tough experienced hire interview questions all in a bid to make us fail dia interviews so they could slot in their cousins and nephews, where a first class economics graduate survives on Spanco call center job (a job meant for SSCE in India),........................ etc.

However against all odds, despite the hard terrain some graduates are still flourishing. You shouldn't have made that decision. I hope you find peace wherever you are. RIP

Concise but reasonable posts. That's one of the reasons some people can't get good jobs (inability to endure situations). If he saw joblessness as a reason to die, what would have happened if he survived and at the right stage, gave birth in life, and had to cater for his family's needs on daily basis? Even employed people are faced with several situations, so are we who come here to read this post. I believe majority of us who commented on this post visited this section in search of good jobs. We aren't better than him, but the HOPE keeps everyone going in life. My dad tells me each time I'm pensive: "a man who kills himself out of frustration is a VERY selfish person because he obviously thinks about himself alone, and his death would give his people more problems". The situation may be bad, but no one should give up on God, as we all have our own appointed times. I pity his people.
