Not really...this move is politically motivated. This places the ball in the incoming GOP controlled congress in anticipation of the 2016 presidential elections. In his speech, he said, "pass a bill". Himself and Democrats expect to benefit from such actions while squarely blaming the GOP as being obstructionists if they do not do anything about passing a bill on comprehensive immigration reform. This puts the GOP in deep shyte....as the latino vote would be crucial in certain states like Florida, New Mexico, Nevada (critical states in the electoral college). While the bill leaves a bitter taste in the mouths of conservatives, it was the only political gambit the democrats had after the shellacking they received during the mid-term elections. This puts the GOP in retreat (albeit their whining). But in the end, America is a country of immigrants. In the 1900's people came into the country on huge boats and were immediately accepted. The opposition to this issue has been politically motivated as the democrats view the latino vote as crucial, while the GOP are scared of their diminishing white majority. |

cococandy:What people do not understand is, its better to have 5 million registered migrants paying tax, being accounted for with finger printing etc than 5 million ghosts who do not contribute to the countries growth but are gaining dividends from the tax payers money. And since the US is fighting terrorism they need to have every individual residing in their country on their registration system to be able to track down. This could also back fire for the migrants as they could give these people a deadline to leave the country. If one reads his statement thoroughly he said, 1) Applies only to illegal immigrants already in the country 2) He is not giving amnesty 3) He is not giving permanent residence or citizenship That should tell one he wants illegal immigrants to; 1.hand themselves over to the law without spending huge amounts of capital and human resources to hunt them down 2. Its a security risk to have undocumented residence in your country 3. Grow tax paying residence and avoid tax evading tendencies 4. Also deportation is a huge expense on countries so when the time expires for those people to be there they will come for them ensure that they voluntarily go back home or apply legally for renewed status to which the could still deny them on the same bases of initially getting to the US illegally.
