When my battery drops to below 30%, d phone automatically set itself to 'power saving' mode in which d audio profile is changed to general from d initial silent/vibrate mode, screen brightness is increased from its initial least bright setting. I know same applies to many other smart phones too.
These measures to me re paradoxical coz I think they accelerate battery drainage rather than reducing it, or am I wrong?

Whenever my battery goes below 40%, "Low battery mode" becomes activated..This includes Switching off GPS, Mobile Data, Turning down brightness to lowest level, decreasing Time out to just 15secs and finally, force closing all running apps (This last one is not actually that effective because some apps are very stubborn and cannot be stopped unless uninstalled)
Try checking the settings of your low batt mode
