A 23mm round will rip through a BMP2. But a BMP2 can accuritly hit a techincal from 4KMs away. Personaly I don't like the BMP2. They to small and cramped inside and not built for people my hight (1.8ms tall). Of course if you want a tracked IFV for cheap there are only so many opstions. You all so got to pray no one hits you with a RPG. Because the RPG is so small the chance of hitting the fuel or ammo is high and they not stored in armoured lockers. Basicaly a RPG or even a 23mm round could cause the BMP2 to either explod or burn. Either way bad for those inside.

But if Nigeria uses them right and gives them proper infantry support the BMP2 will be deadly.

An RPG can kill anything from MRAPS, IFV's, and light skinned tank.

Success depends primarily on the tactics and proper infantry support.

Difrence is wether the cre lives or not. I know of a case where a Ratel was ambushed by at least 4 RPG teams and other AT wepaons such has rifel grenads. Though the ratel was lost people where able to extract them selfs and wounded. The commander died rushing back trying to pull more people out.

BMPs are so small that ammo and fuel are carried in the troop and fighting compartment and are not armoured.

; did u just call or categorize "rifle grenade" lunchers anti-tank weapon ! And secondly I dissagree with u on the bmp-2'yeap its small but what matters is the armor platting protection for ratel's !
Then whens d thickness of ratel armor plate ?

These are hind rockets. I don't know if the Alpha jets fire these same rockets. The Alpha jet always carry rocket pods for COIN operations.

RPG-7 which is the widely used anti-tank rocket in Africa can't penetrate modern IFVs in certain areas.

What do you think rifel grends where made for? In SA the two used here can deal with 350mm of RHA (the one fired from a R1 or FN Fal) or 250mm RHA (the one fired from a R4). The bog standard RPG7 used by most african countries has 350mm pentrastion.

Ratel is 20mm with it being sloped up front. But even then it still not enough to stop a RPG.

BMP 2 armour is from 6mm to 33mm.

Size does matter. The ratel is bigger. You could hit it with a RPG and get through the armour but not hit anything vital like fuel or ammo. With the BMP 2 you going to hit Fuel or Ammo.

You are funny dude ,then if u r in ur so-called ratel or badger where u r being hit u hust stay in right there and so it wouldn't hit fuel or ammo do u think ur fucken enemy don't know ur week point on ur ratel, when RPG knocks out abram u r talking of Ratel, who d hell knows ratel !
And secondly don't u try and face any fucken AFV/IFV with a rifle grenade luncher. Its only a mad man would try and do that ! I would rather prefer an anti-material/particle beam riffle from a well and camouflaged distance !
And last but not the least never compare a ratel with a (2000) BMP-2, its only an armature would do dat !

I'll rather stick to my bmp-2 with an armor plate ;33mm(1.3in) with a little compactment than a ratel badger with armor plate;20mm(0.79) .
When an RPG-7 hits u ; d second hit is going to roast you, because its an anti-tank self propelled rocket, they never said anti-infantry fighting vechicle, so bro in d realty u jump out for cover with ur rifflej bmp-2 or ur badger ratel can't withstand more than 1 hit !
But I'll rather go for a bmp-2 than a ratel !.... Its not about d size its the protection and firepower bro, even the U.S.A army now produces its own rpg(Airtronic) variant cos they understand its dangerous, effective proven, easy to maintain, cheap and light to carry for foot soldier to carry about.I rest my case !

there was a mock security drill in abuja today that involved special forces from all security serviced. it's in preparation for a possible westgate styled attack ( since boko haram likes to copy so much). The DSS troopers stole my heart with their gear but i got kinda confused if they were DSS or SBS since they both wear black.

@henry should be able to tell cos they wore the standard plain desert like tactical gear.

it was a nice clip i saw on AIT 8 pm news.

i hope pictures will be released soon. won't hold my breath though

The Augusta LUH has to be the world's most useless helicopter. To think this helicopter sold many units is all the more shocking.

Generally, LUH's have lost their relevance in the military. They are an utter waste of resources.

I also don't see the real purpose of that thing, except for Search and Rescue.

That LUH is a useless helicopter, and the biggest military scam of the 21st century. I don't believe Augusta even knows why they built it.

It must have been a rude shock for Augusta executives at the rate those helicopters sold.

Even if fuel or ammo is hit, it is not stored in the troop compartement like the BMP2. In the case I spoke about the ratel did burn and did explode. But not before people escaped. In a BMP serries you prety much dead if the armour fails.

Rifel grenads give every solder the means to fight a tank. And they could enough to deal with T55, T62 and any AFV of simlare or weaker protecstion. They can be carried by any troop a has a extra.

33mm is only for the gun mantel. A very small target. For the rest it is under 20mm. Combat reports have had 12.7mm fire get through the frontal armour. Being small means you don't have space to keep extra supplies, ammo and what not. All so while you are a harder target to see you your self struggel to see if the dence vegtastion.

Of course every AFV has there draw backs and plus sides. The BMP2 does fit a lot a war fighting machenrie in to a small packeg.

I disagree with you, show me citation dat says the 33mm is for d gun mantel ?
Secondly if a 12.7mm gets tru d frontal armour which am not denying then if u r in a ratel with 20mm armour definitely any soldier inside is a dead fellow ! Its like u r not getting my point, am not saying some certain ammo can penetrate d armour but its not about d body size 'its about d body resistance to all dis projectiles. (33mm armour to 20mm armour)
If ur so called 12.7mm gets tru a 20mm armour lighT skin compare to a 33mm better skin bmp-2, definitely d project will explode forming shrapnel killing every body or hitting ammo's or fueling on impact ....booom dats what u hear then u r a dead soldier.
But a 33mm armour might stand a chance, after d first hit but a wise and intelligent soldier wouldn't wait for second hit.
The strongest IFV in d world is the german puma, south korea K21,russia bmp-3,USA bradley e.t.c are supported by infantry men frm treats like RPG and other anti tank missiles, particle riffle r also deadly and even ur military tactics and formation comes a long role to play. Even d ratel is bigger than all dis mentioned IFV but with comes into play friend is the body armour and fire superiority av said it earlier !
And dis is what they look into when choosing the best its not about d seize is about d design ingenuity

Oh my God,.... Just read tru ur lines very well .Are u a learner .... U want to cenfront a T55,T62 and AFV similar to those tanks with a riffle grenade luncher u a dead roasted soldier !
T55,T62 e.t.c offer some d"egree of protection" to d soldiers inside, even if hit by an RPG-7. Ar u targetting a light skin vehicle like d toyota hilux! My dear friend andrewza stop arguing or its like u play too much of PS3 of call of duty !
