Plateau Yet To Feel Jonathan’s Impact Despite 1 Million Votes In 2011 – PDP by Jerry24kay(m): 1:57pm On Nov 28, 2014
The chairman of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, elders in Plateau State, a group tagged Equity and Justice Forum, Dakun Shun, has said citizens of the state are yet to feel President Goodluck Jonathan’s impact despite their one million votes for him in 2011.
The group threatened to mobilize the Plateau electorate against Mr. Jonathan in the forthcoming 2015 general elections.
“We call on Mr. President and the national chairman and executives of our party not to take PDP’s victory in Plateau State for granted,” Mr. Shun said. “The people who gave Mr. President a million votes are crying out in pain and anguish. Do not ignore them otherwise the consequences could be disastrous.”
Mr. Shun, a former Plateau PDP chairman, spoke on Thursday during a media briefing in Jos.
Mr. Shun, a member of the recent National Conference held in Abuja, said the Plateau electorates were yet to fully benefit from Mr. Jonathan’s four years in office.
He said the Plateau people have not taken their rightful place in the sharing of the democratic dividends during the Mr. Jonathan-led administration.
Speaking on the governorship rotation formula in Plateau State, the group insisted that the next governor of the state must come from the southern part of the state since the outgoing governor, Jonah Jang, hailed from the northern axis.
According to the group, Mr. Jang had plans to install his kinsman, Gyang Pwajok, a serving Senator representing Plateau North, to succeed him as governor of the state.
Mr. Shun assured Mr. Jonathan of losing Plateau State during the 2015 election, if the president supported Mr. Jang’s aspirant as governorship flag bearer for PDP.
The group vowed to mobilise the citizens of Plateau State to ensure that Plateau Southern Senatorial zone produced the next governor.
“PDP must stand with the people,” he said. “It’s the people who put governments in power. If our great party decides to stand with the government against the people, it must be prepared to count the costs at the end.”
He also called for the dissolution of the Plateau State chapter of the PDP, saying it was currently being used by the governor to actualise his personal intentions.
“The state exco of the party has shown grave ineptitude and insensitivity to the aims and political aspirations of its members,” he said. “So bad is the situation that the Chairman and his team have surrendered their official functions to the governor and descended to serve as commissioners and appointees on electoral matters which are primarily party functions.”

The group accused Mr. Jang of lawlessness in dealing with state matters.

“The reckless and lawless manner in which PDP conducts its affairs in Plateau State is insensitive and disrespectful to the feelings and expectations of its members. Our desire is to win the general elections.”

Was this significant political story systematically killed by a pro-PDP NL mod in order to save PDP and GEJ from the resultant embarrassment and electoral implications?

If that is the case, the mod who deviously prevented the story from seeing the light of the day should be ashamed of himself for the inglorious role he plays in stifling public debates that can inform and enlighten our people and help them make right political choices, which is a key element of a democracy.

Yes, the 15 years of PDP's misrule has only benefited the thieving elite (from all the regions and ethnic groups), making some of them into super-billionnaires, while the vast majority of the people (from all the regions and ethnic groups) sink deeper and deeper into abject poverty.

In addition to this lamentation from the Plateau PDP, two other recent stories also poignantly show that a corrupt and inept government benefits only a few thieving elite, and leaves the vast majority to wallow in deprivation and penury, reɡardless of their reɡions and tribes:

1. The story of some hungry and haggard people from GEJ's hometown (Otuoke) pitiably queuing and scrambling for a free bag of rice.

2. The pathetic image of a women wearing a PDP wrapper but at the same time fetching water from a filthy, mucky stagnant source that even an animal that is well catered for would not be allowed to drink from.

All people of conscience, regardless of tribe, religion and region, would be so pained by the suffering and hardship ordinary Nigerian families are enduring and the way the corrupt elite are so callously unconcerned about it.

I am from Imo State

All I expect from GEJ is to stabilise electricity for Nigeria before he leaves power.

I don't expect him to do anything specially in my state. If he does bonus but I believe that with stable electricity the entrepreneurial spirit of my people will see us make progress. My Hope is that my people vote A-list Governors all the time and the President of the country can be anybody.

The one reason I want GEJ to continue is because there is no better alternative. After GEJ Nigeria needs somebody fresh. We are tired of Buhari and his generation.

you should be ashamed of yourself. As an Igbo man, what has ndi-igbo benefited from the already four years of Jonathan's administration? When other ethnic groups are complaining bitterly about not feeling the impact of this regime, you are blindly supporting a man that hasn't done anything meaningful for your people.

Rubbish!!

Berem, you talk as if even Otuoke nay the whole bayelsa state has benefited anything from the GEJ administration.

The Brass LNG project in Bayelsa whose FEED design had been completed since 2005 is still abandoned, NLNG Bonny 7th Train is also forgotten, OKLNG in Ondo and Ogun state was also stopped due to shorthsight and tribal bias after the FEED design.

It is a big shame as Amaechi pointed out that all the major oil installations, LNG, refineries, Petrochemical complex, Fertilizer plants located in Niger-Delta where built under the supervision of leaders from other ethnic groups. A supposed son of the soil in power for over 5 years has not built anything for note in the region or any other region for that matter. Who would fault him if he could have a vision of building 5 refineries to meet domestic demand and export to neighboring countries? Will it be too much to add more value to our oil and gas and export more plastics and fertilizers than looking for buyers of crude oil? If this was done the Delta would have been the first beneficiaries as host to the plants.
It is a real shame and wasted opportunity
