I attended a particular pentecostal church recently and throughout the service, the pastor in charge kept telling us to look at our neighbour and say some stuff to them. Sometimes the congregation will be asked to stand up and shout some stuff or for everyone to touch their neighbour and repeat some sentences a couple of times.

This new method is even being adopted by some Catholic and Apostolic churches too as it's going widespread and happens mostly during rendering of the sermon.

Can anyone tell me why they do this?

Saying 'You're blessed' twelve times doesn't pack more power than saying it once.

The more they have you repeating those things, the greater grip they have on controlling you. It's all about exercising control. In the end, it'll become so difficult to stop yourself from parting with thousands of naira when he then needs you to do it.
