The anti-labour activities listed by the oil workers include, retardation of staff promotion in the Petroleum Technology Development Fund (PTDF), non-standardisation of nomenclature and collective bargaining agreement of the Nigerian Nuclear Regulatory Agency (NNRA), in line with what obtains in other agencies in the oil and gas industry, refusal of the management of Addax/Petrostuff Nigeria Limited and Chevron/Sudelletra to recall sacked staff, Petrobras managment unprocedural release of staff and its refusal to renew expired collective agreement and the unjust termination of appointment of the Port Harcourt Zonal Secretary and Treasurer of PENGASSAN and NUPENG respectively.

These are the main reasons for the strike. All those talk about PIB, state of roads and refineries are just padding.

Why do they always plan their strike in December.
Help me ask them. Since the usual artificial December fuel scarcity no longer works, they must find a way to squeeze our necks during the year end travel season. Good as their cause is, the timing is suspicious. My thoughts though.

It means more control of the oil sector by Nigeria and the communities where exploration (exploitation) has been undertaken for the last 40 years. It means bad news for the status quo. The unions are fighting for the first point, the communities the second while the rest of Nigeria is desperately hanging onto the last.

why would any sane Nigerian support the passage of the current PIB let alone an oil and gas worker if he or she hasn't been bribed by this corrupt and clueless govt?

You don't know not passing PIB is bad for the economy?. What kind of education do you have? Or is your love for the zoologist and failed A level teacher blinding you to the truth?. The PIB would make sense of Nigeria's oil in industry and provide jobs. Even the communities stand to gain from it. Please stop worshipping GEJ, only God deserves worship, get a life and emancipate your self and read.

Mr Man in simple terms, how will the PIB benefit Nigerians especially the oil workers being the focal point of the thread?
Simple questions behoove simple answers.
BTW Jonathan like every dumb leader wants the PIB passed.

ASUU did the presidents job for him on the universities, PENGASSAN will do it for him as well on the PIB.

BackDatAssUp:
Why blame the FG for non passage of the PIB where it is the same FG that drafted and sent the bill to the National Assembly?

The National Assembly specifically the house of representatheives under Tambuwal is responsible for the non passage of the bill.

Also, why strike over a trade dispute concerning member staffs of a private oil company?

The APC has the union executives of the NLC, ASUU and PENGASAN in their pocket.

This strike has more political undertones to it.
You are deluded mister!

I seriously agree, why do they love striking in december. It baffles me why fellow Nigerian love to rip themselves off at any given event. That's all they do best, strike!
