Hello Gurus in the house, I will like to ask if a masters student wasnt given GA/TA/RA the first year, Is there any possibility of him/her getting a GA/TA/RA the second year and please what are the requirements for obtaining GA/TA/RA or any of the scholarship the second year

Yes.
Everything depends on the department
Sometimes a 3.0 average would suffice.
Best to inquire with the graduate coordinator for your program.

You only need d sevis no for i-20 to book a date and another advice pay your sevis today...... asin today so that it would reflect before monday....and how many admissions did you get?
Thanks. I had only one admit though i applied to two
schools. I have emailed the graduate school with
regards to scanning the I-20. I seriously doubt if I
can pay the SEVIS fee today but let's see how it
goes. What do u suppose could be the implications if
i do not pay today? Secondly, i was reading about
emergency appointment on USA consular website.
Has anyone here taken advantage of it?

How on earth I missed this the last time I commented on NL? I guess it was because I only replied my MT.

Wale, it's well. Have you applied before? If not, you can get it a trial again and hope for a better luck. Remember it once happened to me and many others before.

Hi guys,

My I-20 is scheduled to arrive by the 18th of this month. I am yet to pay for SEVIS or or visa appointment. School is resuming on the 9th of January. Do you think it is still possible to make the nnecessary payments, book a visa appointment and flight ticket before that date.

Thanks.

You'd be lucky to get an appointment before your resumption.

That's fine...please try as much as possible not to talk about your nysc. But if they ask tell them. That's my 2 cent.

Something pushed me to check ur profile and I believe something is really wrong here. You did post on December 2, that a friend of urs used a fake bank statement. Then december 8, you posted your interview transcript for november 28 and the stories were outright similar. Hope you are not going there with another fake bank statement. Me know say na you be the two persons.

lols. Red handed grin

jascymone it depends on your school/department funding. It's typically very competitive for most 'average' schools. You might want to talk to a few professors in your department before you leave, or once you get there-some will want to take their course(s) your first semester and see how you perform before they can give you some funding. Also, you should be ready to show interest in their research.

I found this on U.S. Embassy Nigeria facebook page this morning.

Going home for the holidays? Make visa plans early

International students in the U.S. are thinking about one thing now: final exams. But those returning to their home countries after exams should make room for one more thought: a return visa.

If students’ visas expire when they are out of the country between semesters, they need to apply for new ones as soon as possible to be back on campus in time for the beginning of classes.

The good news is that the U.S. makes a priority of processing student visas. When the standard processing times won’t get students back in time, they can request an expedited interview, which will put them closer to the front of the line. If they’re applying for the same kind of visa to attend the same academic program they attended with their last visa, they may qualify for an interview waiver and not have to appear at their local embassy for the interview.

To find out who is eligible, how to apply and what documents to provide, applicants can check the visa section of the website for the embassy or consulate where they’ll apply — different rules apply in different countries.

Students who need a new visa to return to school should follow these steps:

(1) Check to see if they qualify for an interview waiver.

(2) If they don’t qualify for the waiver, check the wait times for the embassy or consulate where they’ll apply for a visa.

(3) Add the wait time for the appointment to the wait time for processing.

(4) Check their eligibility for an expedited visa interview if the total waiting time won’t allow them to return in time for the start of the new semester’s classes.

@biikeys @ edbib thanks so much for your contribution, i do appreciate a lot. why i asked the question is because of the amount being stated on i20 for the first year of the master's degree programme which ranges mostly between $28000- $45000 in some schools. I ll like to know if the same amount is meant to be prepared for the second year so as to know what to plan for and an estimate of what my parent should plan for throughout the course of my masters degree programme should in case the GA/RA/TA was not given the second year.thanks in anticipation

Sadly, American education is not cheap.
I'm truly amazed at the number of parents sponsored people who go for undergraduate degrees in the US from Nigeria. Even Americans take loans and student debt is a big problem that even the Democrats and Republicans haven't been able to solve.

That being said, I think you really need to search properly. Email the graduate coordinators about funding opportunities. You have nothing to lose. The worst thing is 'sorry we don't fund foreign students'. Press them. Email professors. It's hard work but it pays off.

Since your parents are willing to help, just look for financial aid even if it's partial. School fees is a big burden. Can't imagine having that burden over me....

So over to you. Start emailing..

Vocational visa falls among those visas that are hard to get but who can query your luck.

First of all, why do you choose welding and why do you want to spend on it.

How do you choose your school and what's your tie to home.

What does your credential look like.

Answering this can make advising you faster.
