B2mario:broda,i know owerri and have the map of otown in my head, owerri is a beautiful place, right from the time when the late sam mbakwe, the crying governor was the governor of imo state,he cried to seek more fund frm president shagari,in other to utilized and revitalized the aesthetic nature of imo and abia state as at then.. cos the civil war really affected some places in the east.. The only thing we want frm rochas is to completes all the uncompleted tarred road nd fly over and enable an environment for employment opportunities for indigenes nd non indigenes of the state. The population of owerri is increasing every blessed day. And very soon, investors will start to troop in,due to population density of the state. A lot of works need to be done in oguta, okigwe nd orlu and not just owerri alone, all place in imo state need to be aesthetically beautiful... rochas need to do more home works on how foreigners can troop in..... i foresee owerri as a hottest place in a nearest future, where people of different tribes will love to be.. imo is in the hands of God.. ![]() |

Imo state - from Okigwe to Ahiazu to Akokwa to Oguta to Orlu to Owerri - all to develop on the same pace: this was the objective in 1976 when Imo state was created. But corruption made early military governors to concentrate development on the state capital. Even some state governors in modern times have sunk more than 90% of the state's capital development funds on development in Owerri. The trend continued and some Imolites have come to believe that development in a state is mainly for the state capital. Such Imolites make this thread boring as they fill up pages with pictures and events of Owerri; they mistake Imo state for Owerri. |

Gov Okorocha’s 27 general hospitals unrealistic – Guber aspirant By Our Reporter / October 13, 2014 / No Comments As party primaries for nomination of candidates for the 2015 general elections draw near, a leading governorship aspirant on the platform of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, and Chairman of PDP Contact and Mobilization Committee in Imo State, Chief Jerry Chukwueke speaks on developments in the state. In this interview with some newsmen, he pointed out the areas the current government in Imo has failed and what he would do differently if elected. Our Imo State Correspondent, ATHAN AGBAKWURU was there. Excerpts: As the chief mobilizer of Imo PDP for over one year now, what have you identified as the foremost need of Imo people you would pursue earnestly and vigorously, if elected governor of the state? The thrust of our programme will be to create jobs and more jobs so that the teeming population of our unemployed youths can find new life and fresh hope in a developed and transformed Imo. To create jobs is not to allocate or share employment; it is to create an enabling environment for private sector investments and businesses to thrive. It is to identify our natural assets and endowments and systematically develop and convert them to economic opportunities for our people. In line with this, my target is to create 500,000 good paying private sector jobs in four years. Much is now talked about free education in Imo, if elected would you continue with the policy? I believe in “free education” but better still, it must be qualitative, all-inclusive and non-discriminatory. Therefore, we must return Imo State University to its top 10 ranking by investing in facilities and infrastructure, equipment, tools and globally certified staff, in order to regain accreditation in relevant faculties like law and medicine and do the same for Imo State Polytechnic. I would also ensure that the enrolment of Imo indigenes in Imo State University is increased to 70 percent while provision of bursary/scholarships to Imo indigenes studying outside Imo State will be a top priority. I will restore dignity to the teaching profession by ensuring that remuneration and emolument of teachers are in line with the best in the profession and provide regular training, capacity building and career improvement opportunities. One of the challenges of the so called ‘free education’ as practiced in Imo state today is the lowering of standards in our public schools but we will restore high academic standards in our public schools by the provision and maintenance of basic tools and facilities like laboratories, libraries, etc in order to prevent a recurrence of the shameful and unacceptable performance of our children in WASC and similar examinations since 2012. As governor, I will establish a department of automotive engineering at the Imo State University as a launching pad for the establishment of an auto assembly plant in Imo state. In addition, we shall reinvigorate the department of hospitality. that is, hotel management and entertainment to train our young graduates in hotel management, customer service, chefs, bar tendering and catering, using an upgraded Imo Concorde hotel as training ground. This will create thousands of new jobs not just for Imo economy but for hospitality business across the country. The issue of local government elections appears to have been forgotten in the state, do you think that is the best for our democracy and the local government system? Our Constitution provides for three tiers of government, it is therefore an aberration for a state to function without the third tier properly in place as it is currently the situation in Imo. Therefore, if elected I will immediately restore all 27 local government councils with full autonomy in line with our constitutional three tier system of government. The state and local governments will work in partnership without undermining checks and balances. What strategies do you have to revitalize the agricultural sector, improve health care and tackle insecurity in the state? As a farmer and an agriculturist, it is painful that Imo is not part of the agricultural revolution in Nigeria as evidenced by our exclusion from the recent award of contract by the federal government for the building of agricultural processing plants around the country. At the last international trade fair in Abuja, Imo had nothing to showcase because it presently produces nothing. The Sam Mbakwe International Cargo Airport is under-utilized because there is nothing to cargo out of the state. To reverse this trend, I will establish agricultural zones in partnership with local governments and private sector investors, whereby local government areas will concentrate on commercial cultivation of crops in which they are naturally endowed and have comparative advantage. We will create an enabling environment for commercial agriculture to thrive by establishing mechanized large-scale farms in local government areas. Our Public Private Partnership (PPP) will provide farmers with tractors, high-yield fertilizer, high quality seedlings, and irrigation services at subsidized and affordable rates. We will build silos and other storage facilities and most importantly build processing plants. We will also re-establish the marketing boards that will provide profitable buy-back guarantee to farmers to encourage continuous cultivation. In four years Imo will become a major palm oil hub if we replicate Adapalm in two other zones in Imo with efficient management via private-public partnership and position our farmers to benefit from the federal government single digit interest agric loans through the CBN and bank of Industry. This will create thousands of jobs, guarantee our food security and provide agric products such as cassava, corn, in addition to palm produce for processing and export. As chief executive of Germaine hospital and pharmaceutical, I have solid experience in health care delivery. The failure of public healthcare delivery in Imo State is unprecedented. Rather than pursue the unrealistic 27 general hospitals agenda of the present government, we will complete and make functional 10 of the uncompleted structures and turn them into model general hospitals of international standard. The rest of the uncompleted facilities will be used via PPP with the cooperation of the federal government to create a Healthcare Free Trade Zone in Imo State as a way of promoting Medical Tourism. We will complete, upgrade, tool, and equip with globalized staff the present school of nursing at Orlu in order to gain US and EU certifications, as well as establish a second nursing school. The two schools will produce EU and US certified nurses for our healthcare system and for export to markets around the world, thereby creating thousands of healthcare jobs. Tackling insecurity is every body’s concern, however, we will improve substantially on internal security by establishing community policing, which will be linked to the federal and state security networks. This will boost investor confidence and attract new businesses. We will partner with local and international security companies to establish a training centre for security officers both for the state and for employment by individuals, institutions and corporate bodies within and outside the state and this will create thousands of new jobs. As a crime control measure, we will use modern technology to strengthen all exits and entrances of Imo State. Industrialization has remained a major challenge facing development of the state, how would you deal with the issue of industrialization? It is true that there is total lack of industrial development in today’s Imo. After several economic trips to Kosovo, Bangladesh, Dubai and Turkey, no new businesses have been attracted to Imo, because nothing has been done to create an enabling environment for local and foreign investors. We will therefore leverage on Imo’s gas deposits to attract an Independent Power Plant, so that investors and businesses coming to Imo can have predictable power supply at a predictable cost. Also we will establish processing plants for agricultural products in each local government area, which will feed and service bigger industries and capture opportunities for the production of building tiles and related products in Okigwe and its environs. As a key private sector player with substantial interest in the auto industry, I will enter into joint venture agreement to establish an auto assembly plant in the state. As oil producing state, and being a consultant in the oil industry, I will through joint venture agreement establish medium scale refinery in the oil producing areas of Ohaji/Egbema, Izombe and Oguta. This will also create thousands of new jobs. Do you have any development plan for Owerri, the capital city of Imo state, outside what we presently see? Owerri’s major problem is rising population without commensurate increase in infrastructure and facilities. This has resulted in uncontrolled flooding, pollution and congestion. Besides, the present government has no coordinated urban development plan and that is why Owerri, which used to be ranked as the cleanest city in Nigeria, is now a dumpsite. We along with our joint venture partners will invest in lower and middle-class housing estates to provide decent and affordable accommodation for the rising population of Owerri. We will also position our people to benefit from the federal government’s mortgage re-financing scheme and from international agencies like, IFC. We will open and repair old drainages as well as build new ones and channel all flood water into Nworie River which is Owerri’s natural flood basin. There will be a state-owned Fire Service department with several functional units to guarantee the safety of lives and property in Owerri and other major cities like Orlu and Okigwe. To ease the reliance of our people on private boreholes for water supply, we will invest via PPP in public water supply schemes to guarantee quality, safe and affordable water supply for our people. Part of the confusion in Owerri and other cities is the lack of coordinated urban planning resulting in improper street naming and house- numbering, we will therefore restore sanity to Owerri and other cities by instituting a systematic urban planning strategy as well as sustained beautification of the cities. This strategy has significant security implications. - See more at: http://nigerianpilot.com/issues-in-bio-safety-law-and-genetically-modified-crops/#sthash.xST9YwIh.dpuf |

RareDiamond:"Owerri's rising population" why? Becos successive Imo state govts concentrated social infrastructures only in Owerri. To divert population to other areas of Imo state, what efforts are Imo govts making to provide social infrastructures in Oguta, Aboh Mbaise, Orlu, Okigwe, etc? If this man is made governor tomorrow, will he not follow in the footsteps of past governors - they spend the bulk of the state's money in Owerri to get better noticed. |

Politicians are always looking for what to campaign with. December is here and many Igbos will go home. I will personally do a tour of all the States in the East and bring good and bad pictures for Nairaland this month. Okorocha is the best among all and has proven that with little much can be done. |

Imo state to experience greater socio-infrastructural development in the next 4 years – Okorocha. by ADMIN on Dec 13, 2014 • 6:45 AM 0 1 Comments The Imo State governor aGVnd an aspirant to the presidential seat in the All Progressives Congress (APC), Owelle Rochas Okorocha has insisted that his participation at the just concluded APC presidential convention has distorted the fact that the President must come from any particular zone, as he returns to Imo State to continue his Rescue mission government. “I have been able to prove the point that party should not assume that power must come from any particular place. It is the understanding of APC that the president should come from the North ever since. I knew about that but I don’t like those facts, so I have come to distort those facts which are not the truth.” Owelle Okorocha who addressed a mammoth crowd of Imo people that came to greet him at the Sam Mbakwe Airport on his return from the APC P0residential Convention, commended the party for the free and fair conduct of the primaries and congratulated Gen. Muhammadu Buhari for emerging the presidential flag bearer for the All Progressives Congress. Governor Okorocha thanked Imo people for their support and assured that his Rescue Mission programme is still on course especially as he promised that the State will experience yet greater socio-infrastructural development in the next 4 years. Commenting on the return of Owelle Rochas Okorocha to the governorship race come 2015, the Speaker Imo State House of Assembly, and Rt. Hon. Benjamin Uwajimogu said that his acceptance by Imo masses is a clear indication that they want him back. He therefore advised other contestants to the Imo State Douglas House to wait until 2019 rather than waste their time and money. The Commissioner for Lands, survey and Urban Planning, Chief Uche Nwosu and the Chief of Staff to the Governor, Sir Jude Ejiogu, both maintained that governor Okorocha has made the Igbo race proud by showing that the Igbos cannot be pushed aside in national politics. They however said that the jubilation by Imo people on governor Okorocha’s return to Imo governorship race was a sign that Imo masses are not yet ready to let him go. - See more at: http://www.imostateblog.com/2014/12/13/imo-state-to-experience-greater-socio-infrastructural-development-in-the-next-4-years-okorocha/#sthash.QTqYZA1u.dpuf |

emmysoftyou:I see truth in what you said, you laid a constructive criticism. Though Rochas has done well but i still expect more from him. As an exposed gov who claimed to have gone far, i think he should open up imo not just giving free education and building roads but upgrade the commerce and industrial potential of the state. He can use his influence and attract more industries to the state as did by Dee Sam. I think Orlu, Okigwe and Oguta have some pretty potentials that are wasting, Oguta need a seaport which he can borrow to work on or call on the attention of the federal govt, Orlu needs a well laid industrial layout which will give it a real commercial status, the tourist potential of Okigwe has to be revitalized, the city has many tourist attraction. This is why i wished Rochas to go for 2nd tenure so that he can work more in imo since he has the zeal. I love the man but he has some lapses just like every other man. |

B2mario:Oguta already has good roads. What is needed is to dualize the Orlu-Mgbidi-Oguta road and start event hosting. Oguta people are like Owerri people and are fun loving, highly enlightened and we have a deep culture. Tourism will thrive if Government pushes riverine related cultural activities. Jonathan played us wayo with the seaport just like that of Onitsha. Okorocha is doing exactly what I always thought a wise Government would do. Dualising Owerri to Akokwa via Orlu and then Owerri to Anara. Another dual carriage way should also be constructed from Anara to Orlu via Nkwerre. That way we will have a very large single city as these places are almost entirely urbanized. Take a look at Oguta and notice that all the roads are tarred and 90% have streetlights. In some States only the capital has streetlights in selected streets. https://s26.postimg.org/g2du6ncm1/oguta27.jpg https://s26.postimg.org/d0dv57kpl/oguta1.jpg https://s26.postimg.org/dsgj4eowp/oguta11.jpg https://s26.postimg.org/ssdh5zv6h/oguta13.jpg https://s26.postimg.org/4d594xw9l/oguta5.jpg https://s26.postimg.org/6vqy5mhzt/oguta9.jpg https://s26.postimg.org/gcgrc91uh/oguta6.jpg |
