Wallie:
Those with power decide what kinds of story we see, hear, or read about. They tell the narration that conforms to their bias and/or believe.

You want to tell a different story, the real story? Attain power. Nobody will listen to you if you're powerless; you'll just die of frustration.
This is part of what I was trying to say in my posts - despite the prevalence of poverty in China and India they wield more Economic power than Chad or Nigeria (in addition to other things).

what I mean is this.. Since the advent of slavery blacks have always known that they have to rise. We have been singing that same old song till today. Rise !! Rise !! Rise !! . Its high time we stop for some mins and do some deep thinking. We know about the western powers gimmicks ,yet they still work on us. Why is that so?the answer is from within . The black mans problem has always been in the pot cooking. It. Was only a matter. Of time before someone came along to dish it.. There is a word called "sankofa" which means return and get it. Only when we are ready to look backwards through our past and ways , culture. Etc will we be able to move forward..

If all of Africa united we would be more powerful but India and Nigeria have a similar GDP per capita. It is also military power that counts. India and China both have nukes not Nigeria or Chad.

Yes. But if look at it objectively, India has more population than the whole of Africa, bigger middle class than all of Africans middle class combined and have a bigger GDP than the whole of Africa combined. Africa will still be portrayed as poor until Africans start to take themselves serious.
Africa is still colonized. India and China are not as colonized as Africa. The sad part is that most Africans don't even know. We think since we celebrate independence that we are free. There is a big difference between political and economic independence.

I luv d discussion so far. I dnt knw y a meaningful thread like dis has nt gotte to d fp. Readin comments up till now made me happy. Wow we r very intelligent.
I dnt care wat d west say abt us. All dose crap do nt mata. It is up to us to surprise dem with our growth. Dis can only happen if we r honest wit ourselves nd if we unite. Who says we cant come up wit our own powerful media co dat will potray dem as destitutes? We shud stop lamenting abt how dey potray us and start lookin for ways to surpass dem. If germany can do it after so much antagonism against dem after ww2,who says we cant?

If we don't always go cap in hand begging for aids from the Western nations, they wouldn't portray us this way.

For me, this isn't a problem whatsoever. Hold your governments responsible for whatever insults we get from those guys. Remember, you never get what you didn't bargain for.
Thank you very much

You are WRONG. Pakistan, Jordan, Syria and Iran hold 60% of the world's 10 million refugees.

Not that I blame you. You are also a victim of western media distortion. It's no surprise you automatically assumed Africa had the most displaced people.
Don't mind them.
