Hmmmm. This is Nigeria. Since I was born in the 80's, Nothing has product has ever gotten to it's original price after there is an increase in price.
Please Nairalander, I ask a serious question. Is there any product you remember going back to its original price after a slight increase. e.g, Cab fare, Fuel Hike, Basic Commodities. I need reply please.
sharaaaaaaaap!

With even the point you made above, can you compare them based on the indices u stated and tell who is better btw GMB and GEJ. Did the Naira fall againt Dollar during GMB regime? tell us at what rate GEJ met Dollar and what is it now. then you will know the reason why price is increasing in his tenure. And don't forget, they have rumored, pump price will still increase in June if they are still there. That shows u present Govt doesn't have any solution to stabilize Naira and have good effect on our pump price.

Compare GMB government with that of GEJ head to head in Performance, i believe you will change ur mind if u are sincere with Nigeria.
he already did, most guys screaming sia GMB are forgetting that if you increase something in 2 folds it means %200 increase, or MayB they are struggling with maths. ahahah Guy did you notice OP delibrately removed Buhari's fuel tenure so we cant mesure its % increase grin grin grin grin grin grin grin

Sonekan n OBJ caused this ruin, calculate their % increase compare to the present situation. But clclearly GMB was the originator of the ruins cos if he hadn't carried out his coup of a democratic govt military wouldn't have bastardized this nation.
wonder why he who truncated democracy now want to rule in a democratic society?

Re: History Of Fuel Price Increases In Nigeria. by sorextee(m): 11:44am On Dec 16, 2014
Very reasonable. If only our leaders won't divert the money elsewhere.. before subsidy needs to be removed, so many things needs to be put in place. Salaries need to be raised, even minimum wage should go up. I can't be collecting 50k as salary, den subsidy will now be removed, what 50 will do, won't be enough anymore..
king1234:
Gas price is a reflection of world's oil price. Nigeria can't be any different.

Even if we had a refinery in Nigeria that will not change significantly the price u pay at the pump as it will be stupid for a refinery owner to refine gas and sell it for cheap when he can sell at a higher price in the world market.

If u want gas price today to reflect what holds in 1960 then that is wishful thinking.

Also Nigeria has been able to sustain a stable price due to subsidy when oil price goes down money used by federal government to subsidies gas price is less. When it is high got has to budget more for subsidy.

Removing subsidy is the right step for govt to do. That removes an inefficient allocation of resources. We may have had an efficient transportation network of rail and buses if govt removes subsidy and use the money for public infrastructure.

A developed country is considered successfully if it has higher amount of its citizens using public transit to handle their daily business than use of private cars

Here we see who among them all is(are) actually for the masses. A better leader (President) will not make the people to be paying very high for basic needs. Buhari has shown this before and he will still do it again. Lets support Buhari ticket for the masses sake. GEJ will continue to make more expensive for the masses while satisfying the looters all in the name of support.
Imagine when big earning cannot even buy many tins, actually this we dont want. we want our earning no matter how small it is to be able to buy many tins.
Naija, think twice before u support anyone unnecessarily. base ur judgement on anticident and performance of the duo.
where did you see the fuel impute of Buhari? I have read the list from OP, he never listed Buhari or you got a third EYE?

Guy I think its you who is getting it wrong, Naira had more value back the days so any increment would have devastating effect,U should measure increment in % rather than the money value. So that guy was right, all that being said an Increment of %300 is worse than an increment of %100 at any time now or in the future.
Are we not both saying the same thing? Maybe you are mistaking me for the other guy. That is if you are agreeing 70k to 5naira and 20naira to 75naira are both worse than 65naira to 147naira

You should've reconciled fuel price hikes with the inflation & naira devaluation/fall accompanying them in different dispensation.

Am not conparing GMB to Jonathan. Don't get me wrong. I might vote GMB (depending on who his running mate is). But that doesn't mean Jonathan is the worse president naija has ever had the way apc minions are painting him. I remember in 2007 when obj was looking for 3rd term, we all fought against like our lives depended on it. But now we are all taking obj seriously. Funny Nigerians. GMB is about the best president we ever had but stop making Jonathan look like the worst of the lot. To me, obasanjo was worse.

Compare GMB Government and GEJ on Different indices:

1. Fuel Price Increase (which is a determinant for inflation of other products).
2. Naira to Dollar exchange rate changes
3. WAI vs EFCC + ICPC
4. Security situation
5. Unity among Ethnic and Religious Group
etc.

Kindly comment on all these sincerely if you fear God and conclude who is better betwn 2 of them.

Guy dont hide tell us the price of petrol at the pump during Buhari tenure plzz no need for #3,4,5 ans #2 has nothing to do with any govt rather international trade there are loads of country whom are better off but the Naira dominates their currency

With these trend my friend Saudi would be worse than Nigeria if it continues for the next 10 years.
Saudi would be insulated for a while...low population(11 million) and high oil production...10X that of nigeria.

But you are right....if trends continue....Saudi might find it hard going.

Nice post.

We should remove subsidy and most important divisify the economy. 70-75% dependence on one source of income is terrible for any economy that is able to plan talk less of Nigeria that can't plan
Aye...subsidy has to go...and the(saved) money should be(ideally!) reinvested in education and industrial support infrastructure....like Power, roads and railways.
