are we through for tonight'z lecture?
Re: Poetry Classes For Beginners - NPC (Signup Thread) by Nobody: 9:58pm On Dec 16, 2014
And lastly for tonight, the secret in becoming a better poet lies in playing with words.
Please remember to open a thread in Poems For Review tonight and tag the teachers. There we can play with words as much as we wish.

Even when you feel you're not good enough, read poems and try to imitate.

Any more questions?

In opening said thread, can we copy and paste a poem (no matter how amateur-ish) we had written b4?

Meet me again next week Tuesday. For next week I will tell you 12 radical reasons you should be a poet.

Also, we will start the journey into the art of poem - writing in the free verse style.

Till then, Ayamlaykorn.

For after-class disscussions, let's meet in the chatroom.

Tonight I await your mentions. Please open the thread even if you have no poems to post yet. As ideas come, you will fill the thread with them.

I suggest a name like: 'Random Ramblings From The Mind Of X'

Where X stands for the owner's name.

Thanks

Lecturer laykorn, your yet to tell us the general rules of poetry since the free verse as you say do not actually have rules unless the fundamental rules, i think we will love to know those basic rules as not to mix up things later

Thank you Ma. I think that's what we are going to do now. I tried to edit the topic's name but I guess all topics that make FP can't have their topic names modified.

The problem we have is directing traffic to the new thread.

A poem can be a product of inspiration. It can be a product of imagination too.

I prefer to rely on imagination because inspiration ceases to come when you need it most.

With imagination, you can write anything, anytime. cheesy

There is only one basic rule for free verse. It has many branches. And the rule is to make sure your work is not prose.

To make sure your work is not prose, you have to make use of some of the poetry devices. There are a lot of them. We will come to treat them as time permits.

Thank you sir

The dictionary is a poet's best friend. Good poets are addicted to the dictionary. But the number of vocabulary you know doesn't decide how good you are.

Although you have to keep learning vocabularies everyday, I'm sure you know enough to write you a good poem.

You can subscribe to Word Of The Day mail services if you won't be able to access the dictionary everyday.
