Clean up the system, and the people will have no choice but to conform. You keep sacking as many people as you want and there'll still be no change if the system retains the status quo. If you like, sign MoU with FBI, those that will come to replace the sacked ones will be worse thieves. It's the system that needs cleansing in the form of policies and reforms. In these days of rising costs of living and proposed austerity measures, more people should not be put out of jobs. God knows we have more than enough of that already.

While it is unfortunate that some lost their jobs, it is better for the larger good of the nation. The administrative overhead of government and government parastatals should be cut to the barest efficient minimum and private industry empowered. This should be replicated across all ministries and redundant structures and people be weeded out.

your logic would make more sense if politicians are used to begin it's implementation by the swift removal of unnecessary political appointments and reduction of salaries and allowances.

it is not just about Goodluck Jonathan, I have found out that the only tier of government still functioning effectively and (believe it or not) the most transparent, is the federal government.....I could remember back in those days in camp, when they provided us with meager water and electricity, you couldn't even get panadol in the clinic..but when they heard that an inspector from the federal government was coming, voila! The clinic was transformed, water was supplied ceaselessly. na only 'eye service' most of the state and local governments dey do for this country..

Stella Oduah brought her people en mass, fresh graduates employed as level 10, 12 officers in the civil service not to talk of the agm's and gm's paid heavy allowances and given cars while they hold back the promotion of those in the system. Chidoka has conducted about three staff audits since he took over, Its a matter of little time before he sends them packing so he can bring his folks to fill in the space so they can chop too.. we keep going in circles, diaris god

A highly scientific and technical organization like NIMET currently has more support staff than professionals.

If you go to their headquarters at the airport you will find admin staff loitering around with nothing to do.

NIMET is also the only agency in the Aviation Ministry that has a legal department with a substantive legal director complete with a retinue of employed lawyers sitting down doing next to nothing and collecting salaries.

There are also cases of people employed with BSC getting appointments to managerial levels on entry. A graduate is offered level 8 on employment but there are several cases of indivuals with no relevant experience or additional certification getting employed on level 15. The civil service terminal grade level is level 17. There are instances of indivuals having a pass or 3rd class getting level 10 appointments.

There is also the case of retaining retired staff on contracts with no clear objectives other than for welfare.

The system reeks to high heaven but the case of NIMET redundancy and undue employment is mind boggling.

I thought the FG said oil price fall won't affect Nigerians because all I see is a desprate bid to cut costs. More retrenchment should be expected.

The Aviation sector is not a dumping ground or welfare board it is place for seasoned professionals.

NIMET, FAAN and NCAA are full of redundancies.

You need to go the government ministries, agencies and parastatals to fully understand me.

the level of corruption in the civil service is just too much. it will be very difficult for politicians and other arm of governments to perpetrate fraud or steal without conniving with civil servants.

my opinion is if the civil service can be cleaned, then it will take us little time to tame corruption among the political class .
