Benue Workers Celebrate Christmas Without Salaries by lalasticlala(mod): 6:49pm On Dec 25, 2014
Some government employees in Benue State said they were celebrating Christmas in high spirit in spite the state government’s inability to pay their salaries.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the workers, who were being owed four months’ salaries, appeared to have shunned all grievances against the state government.

NAN also reports that the workers, however, said they were not happy that the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) was trading their welfare for political reasons and other benefits.

“Comrade Simon Anchaver‘s leadership of the state NLC has shown clearly that it is not capable of fighting for workers’ welfare.

“First, Anchaver used NLC chairmanship position and the workers welfare to bargain for his 2015 governorship ambition which he eventually lost to Prince Terhemen Tarzoor.

“ He contested election without resigning his appointment with the state Ministry Agriculture because of his closeness to the governor.

“He does not have the interest of the workers at heart; all he does is look for ways of enriching himself and build his political career,” a teacher in Gboko Local Government said. .

The teacher, who pleaded anonymity, criticised the NLC leadership in the state for failing to support them at the expense of their personal ambitions.

“NLC in Benue has become a political party where only party issues are being discussed instead of the welfare of members.

“Can you imagine that the NLC chairman, on December 24 at about 4:00 pm, ordered all workers to embark on a three-day warning strike should the government fail to pay salaries?

“Anchaver declared strike when he knew very well that the Federal Government had declared December 25 and 26 as public holidays to mark the commemoration of the birth of Jesus Christ.

“We are tired of the situation and want the national body of the NLC to wade into the matter to enable us to get our monthly salaries”.

He also appealed to the national leadership to urge President Goodluck Jonathan to call Gov .Gabriel Suswam to order.

Another teacher from Makurdi Local Government, who for fear of reprisal preferred anonymity, berated the leadership of the NLC in Benue for failing to fight for workers’ rights.

She said that the NLC’s leadership had chosen to involve itself in politics thereby abandoning its primary responsibility of fighting for workers’ welfare.

Efforts to contact Comrade Anchaver proved abortive.

Re: Benue Workers Celebrate Christmas Without Salaries by Samabu07(m): 7:11pm On Dec 25, 2014
Benue Indigenes should vote strictly for personality and not any political party.

Some how it's good to vote for the opposition to sit up the ruling party.

Several Federal Ministries in Abuja haven't paid Salaries for December here in Abuja yet they raise over N20bn for campaign Jamboree...it's satanic not to pay some one's due wages.

Re: Benue Workers Celebrate Christmas Without Salaries by fitzmayowa: 7:13pm On Dec 25, 2014
The workers are suffering, while the governor is busy donating 50million naira to someone campaign...

This is the height of wickedness, while the useless governor will be celebrating xmas with his family in comfort from his stolen tax payers loot...Leaving those who sweat to earn their meagre salary to celebrate in suffering...

Naija politheifcians can be so heartless...SMH
Re: Benue Workers Celebrate Christmas Without Salaries by Krisddon: 7:13pm On Dec 25, 2014
...And aunty Susan is busy making donations here and there.
Benue state is fast cascading to abysmal sepulchre. I wonder what will be in the poster of PDP thief who is preparing to inherit the state after Susuu... It's really pathetic. Supposing Nigerians are united, revolution would have been the answer.
Re: Benue Workers Celebrate Christmas Without Salaries by Jakpon: 7:13pm On Dec 25, 2014
Its not only Benue state. Almost half of the state havent paid ther workers salary, some for the past two month e.g Osun, Kogi, Cross river, Ogun, Ondo, Abia, Ebonyi, Plateau etc. The Nigerian economy is in tatters, the federation account is depleting at an alarming rate
Re: Benue Workers Celebrate Christmas Without Salaries by sleekp1: 7:13pm On Dec 25, 2014
Osun is owing workers also, the governor use their salary to fight omisore.
Re: Benue Workers Celebrate Christmas Without Salaries by Lakayanah: 7:14pm On Dec 25, 2014
May God help us what do our leaders do with our monies? No one should tell me the opposition will do better. They are all from the same coven of witches and wizards, just re labeling old stuff. The young shall grow hmm when would that be.
