maestroferddi: Great comment I'm very sure u hav a very big “thinking cap“. From experience underemployment cud turn out to be that last pinch of salt or drop of bile to destroy your whole plans, self worth and overall personality. Employment is great but be careful not to just accept any job (some jobs are just packaged with title its actually a “corporate salesboy, messanger or cleaner position.) As somone once said on this great forum being busy dosent necessarily equal being productive. Merry christmas. |

kristein:Sorry to sound blunt but you are simply naïve. You must not have heard of the army of unemployed accounting graduates roaming the major cities in search of jobs. Some of these people made good grades in school and have gone further to get their ICAN certification yet no show. Just pray for the favour of God as you would be left frustrated if you rely on your strength, aptitude and talent alone. 3 Likes |

fryo4life:I know someone who graduated when he was in his early 20's. He got his 1st job went he was 29yrs in CBN. Its not how far but how well. Some people will get jobs immediately after service and work for donkey years without anything to show for it. Be patient but mean while, keep busy. Idleness destroys creativity. |

kristein: You are neither completely right nor completely wrong. In an ideal setting, all courses being taught in our tertiary institutions are meant to meet specific needs of the society which means, ideally, there should be jobs for everybody. However, this is Nigeria where opportunities are limited, and the fact that some of the courses provide more opportunities than the others isn't helping. |

I know a guy who graduated in 2006 and is still jobless till date. Though his own case baffled me, dat someone can be jobless for 8 years is difficult for me to comprehend. |

maestroferddi:bruh! i feel your pain, and i understand your challenges as at now..nw lets clear something that seems obscure to you guys ryt here... "have you ever come across any 1st class product roaming about the street all in the name of job hunting"??..do i said "job hunting"??…hell no,i dn't think so!..why?.:because employers of labour find them more creative and innovative, henceforth, majority of these categories are well endowed and are usually retained as an assistant lecturer! .. I am not in any way contradicting to your opinion..but i am telling the reality,bro!..so if you find yourself in the job hunting category,my brother i sympathize with you and try to have a primitive planning ahead of time bfor is too late.. my opinion though 1 Like |

some of agree no job other says there are jobs.in this country we all know your job mostly depends on who you know.but one thing that know us and we know so well is our own strength and determination.do you really want to independent or you so much believe you have a familly to depend on.i tink its time we stand up look into ourselves and see there is something we can do even without any capital.when you are ready u mind will be filled with the strength to push in.we should be tired of the who you know job vacancies KNOW URSELF |

onadana: This your statement motivates me to comment. During my service year was when they increased 'ALLAWEE'.So I thought it wise to spend judiciously while other corps members were buying latest phones, laptops etc I was busy saving. At the end of my service year, I was able to save #110K. When my searching for jobs for 2months proves abortive, then I used my cool #110k to hire a small shop in a local environment, and do business like charging phones, selling recharge cards, visa lottery registration, WAEC etc. The profit I make daily, makes me feel relaxed that I don't jobhunt anymore but when people noticed that I am doing well, they now opened the same business in the same environment with me that makes me frustrated. I began to look for jobs again and took up DSA in a bank for one year. As GOD may have it, I am now working as a CCO with a bank. #LetsStart4rmSmall 3 Likes |

It is unfortunate that many people hate the TRUTH. Most of us like to deceive ourselves most of the time. Yes, thank God you are through with higher education and NYSC. Tell me, what stops you from adding value to yourself to enable you become gainfully employed? How can you add value to yourself ,you may ask ? This you can do by learning what you don't know presently that can help fulfill the yearning NEEDS around you. Do some research, ask people around you, ask your friends, ask your parents, ask your siblings, etc what are the daily needs of everyone around you. Then try to fill these needs. If you are green about these products or services, my friend LEARN at least one of them.Start something by yourself. You won't believe it that God is only waiting for you to use the resources He has deposited in you, if FEAR has not married you as a wife. At the end of the next three months, you will realise you don't need to search for any unavailable jobs. I was unemployed a couple of years ago after NYSC, when my father told me exactly the same thing. I took action, did my research and online I saw a trainer from whom l learnt three different products. Today, I have workers in my soap business. Few words are enough for the wise. Wake up. Happy Xmas and wishing you a prosperous 2015. |

kristein:You're still naïve dear. Just pray those friends whose courses you're turning your nose down on do not get better jobs than you or better still () get jobs before you. There are so many accountants out in the labour market. The logic in your argument is flawed sef cos those professional courses (asides medicine) that you exalted are over populated so their graduates need more to make them stand out. Moreover, in the Nigeria of today, your course doesn't really count when it comes to corporations that train their new recruits. Although I wouldn't say getting a job depends on who you know all the time but it's definitely not all about your posh course. |
Re: Getting Job After NYSC: How Long Is Too Long? by Nobody: 5:03pm On Dec 26, 2014 |
kristein: Lol, your comments on this thread reeks of arrogance & naivety, no harms meant. Contrary to what you think, being a first class graduate doesn't betoken innovation or creativity. Although, It signifies diligence which undeniably is one of the many attributes recruiters seek, but it doesn't end there. I've seen first class graduates with very poor communication & interpersonal skill. How is such person expected to thrive in a corporate environment? Some can't even pass some of these tests being contrived by recruiters. Some haven't equipped themselves with neccesary information needed to burgeon in the job market. Having a good grade is very good. It's a key requirement in landing a good job offer, but it doesn't end there. Total & continuous self development really does matter as well. |

chyna4luv:Now this is the problem with Nigeria....everybody thinks they have a right to do what you started to make money.Nothing wrong with that only that one has to be innovative and one step ahead...you must envisage your competitors. That is why Airbus and Boeing are still in existence today....they don't try to outwit themselves, each adds MORE QUALITY AND FINESSE to their products to make it more attractive.Keep up the good work. |

Unemployment is a serious issue in this country and our government is feeling unconcerned. To be very frank, there is no young graduate that will not be upset after 6 months of idleness, but everybody should find something doing no matter how small. You may be unemployed but you should not be idle. |
