Missing $20b: Mystery Over Audit Report, Nigeria’s Fi
Nigeria’s most powerful Minister, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, has refused to release the much-publicized probe set up to investigate the theft of $20 billion from the country’s treasury through the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC).

In February 2014, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, who is both Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, told Nigerians that the federal government had appointed independent auditors to look into the books of the NNPC and unravel the huge theft which had been exposed by Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, at that time the governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).

Nigeria's minister of Fiance, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala
Sanusi, who subsequently became Emir of Kano, was booted out of the CBN by President Jonathan for exposing the scandalous graft and misappropriation of funds at the NNPC. Sanusi also exposed the laundering of billions of dollars in revenues that ought to have accrued to the NNPC by shady businessmen close to the president, especially Jide Omokore.

Okonjo-Iweala, deflecting criticism, re-affirmed in May that the accounting firm PriceWaterHouse had been hired to probe the allegations and that the report would be ready by the end of November.

On December 7, one week after that deadline, SaharaReporters wrote to the minister requesting a copy of the audit.

Neither the minister nor her assistant on Media, Paul Nwabikwu, responded to the request.

SaharaReporters also contacted PriceWaterHouse global offices in the US to request information about the completion of the audit and to ask for a copy. In a conversation with Steven Silber, who serves as press contact for PWC’s Auditing and Accounting Center for Board Governance, Risk Assurance Services Deals, he requested an email stating our request. We sent that email immediately but Mr. Silber did not respond to it.

Believers don't use their mouth to insult their President. Learn to criticise constructively instead of insulting the President. Remember to pray for Peace in Nigeria tonight too. God bless.

Sahara Reporters, or any organization or individual for that matter, does NOT become an enemy of Nigeria SIMPLY because somebody at the Defence Hqters described them as such.

In fact, history is replete with MANY instances whereby the MOST PATRIOTIC citizens of a country are declared as 'enemies of state' simply because they oppose the sitting government of their respective countries.

And in a notoriously corrupt country like Nigeria, any individual or organization that tries to be exposing the rampant corruption at high places (including the military) so courageously, unsparingly and consistently as Sahara Reporters does, would surely be taking a HUGE RISK because THE BENEFICIARIES of the corrupt system would surely be seeing them as an 'enemy of the state' and try to 'deal with' them as such.

The owner and the writers of the popular online website are lucky that they are based in the US, otherwise the website would have ceased to exist long ago!

I'll advice you read the article again please. Terrorism calls for collective efforts to combating it and the media play a major role in it. SR will be appreciated for reporting what will boost the moral of our military and citizens in this fight against the insurgents and not fabricating stories without concreate evidence to be denied by anyone.

Gej and those in his cabinet wud by now b pleading to all d angels and saints that he shudnt lose 2015 elections because d kinds of exposures organisations like SR wud do wud b enough to cause an earthquake in nig, particularly given that GMB is running on an anti corruption reputation. Also many of d corporations holding unto or tampering wt sensitive investigations into their books wud no longer b able to do so knowing their principals are no longer in positions of power to give them cover.

It would surely be UNPATRIOTIC and unprofessional, and perhaps even TREASONABLE, for any individual or organization to 'fabricate' a story with a view to undermining the Nigerian military's operations against the evil and satanic BH murderers.

And as you rightly stated, we should all be contributing, in our various little ways, towards the success of the military in their brave efforts to end the insurgency.

However, journalists, both locally based and foreign-based like the Sahara Reporters, are often privileged to know FAR more than what ordinary citizens generally know, and this is what makes their working relation with government officials sometime very difficult, tricky and complex.

And in as much as the military should be supported by all well-meaning Nigerians, the kind of support we should expect from professional journalists should include LETTING US know the TRUTH about ALL issues relating to the war against the insurgency, EXCEPT, of course, certain critical operational details, the revealing of which could jeopardize specific operations.

But as I stated earlier, some corrupt military commanders would surely be upset by the Sahara Reporters not necessarily because the online website divulged any operational secrets, but simply because it DEMANDS ACCOUNTABILITY!

I'm not against media houses giving out useful information that will aid the fight against insurgency but using such privilege to downgrade and demoralise the soldiers is very wrong. SR from the inception of this administration has not seen anything good with it. This sentiment was even aired by the owner Somo...(a Yoruba name) in one of his interviews some months ago. As a Nigerian, he too should set sentiment aside and collaborate with the authority towards ending this war against these insurgents.

SR are just exposing it as it is. The top brass of the Military is heavily corrupt. The lower brass is suffering and demotivated because of this. What else do you want?

It was tribalism that made people oppose Sanusi.

He was right all along.

Let NOI and PWC release the report na. The deadline has passed and tax payer's monies were used for it.

We want to see it.

Sahara Reporters is not an enemy of the Nigerian State. It is an open enemy of PDP and President Jonathaan and it does not hide it. Please dont get it twisted. The army likes it when Sahara Reporters report their successes but hates it when theytell the negative.
The PWC report is a national asset. If you dont want to see it and let the report be read in the national assembly because of ordinary Goodluck Jonathan then you have my sympathy maybe in the next life you should come as Oyinbo because this black man nature is working against your soul emancipation.
