stop all this blind comparison.... do you think Imo can power half of Enugu street light? not all those poor solar intensity light in IMO that you can't even see yourself...Enugu power all there lights with diesel and u no what it means. I presume the best for Owerri is to go for it..... lit up the city with the brightest light... can't u see yaradua road.

Charlesdonald is not true. those street lights are soo dim that you have to on your headlamp . that's why I hate solar energy light they aren't bright enough. if u can be sincere to yourself just compare the yellow ones which is powered by diesel to Solar. they should overhaul those solar panel and fix normal yellow ones which is obtainable in Enugu and PH city..
Some parts of Owerri also have the bright ones but how functional are they? Is it wiser spending money and creating leakages by using diesel to power streetlights. Port Harcourt had solar powered ones under Odili but have been wrongly replaced. Streetlights cannot replace headlamps though.

Whatever I write is what I know and devoid of sentiments. Uyo neither has roads nor streetlights except along few major roads. Enugu is even better than Uyo but none of them has as much as Owerri which every street has streetlights.

abagworo pls stop with talk that every street in owerri has streetlight...you are beginning to sound like a sycophant..come to aladinma, ikenegbu ,fed housing, prefab or is it chukwuma nwoha, mbari road?

I prefer energy saving solar powered ones though. They are far more expensive in installation but help save money in the long run. The diesel powered ones are brighter.

then you obviously do not know owerri well...i hope you are not confusing old street poles you see to mean that that the street lights are functional...i repeat mbari street lights are not functional and I am in owerri at the moment..chukwuma nwoha is the road that connects egbu road to imsu that is under construction for dualization...i hope they do not do shoddy job there and since rochas has already inspected it in one of the pics you posted here let the excuse you are giving that rochad is not aware of such poor construction not surface.

It is under construction then. When completed it will have streetlights like every other roads. I mean the "streetpoles" because my stay in Owerri is mostly around Concorde area at night. However other towns dont have "streetpoles" not to talk of being functional.

good you said streetpoles which was installed in the seventies and eighties and not that they are functional..when you are talk about owerri know that owerri urban is beyond Concorde area..in fact in the eighties Concorde area was actually a 'minority' area is part of the emerging new owerri.i am more interested in solid asphalt of that road so that the eyesore I am seeing on other constructed road around owerri is not repeated.

I won't advocate for generator or grid powered street lights, they are unreliable, expensive to run (on diesel) and give room for corruption.
The solar powered ones should be equipped with lamps of higher wattage. I believe they use the white ones because of their energy saving qualities unlike the yellow ones, but they can still find white ones with higher wattage/intensity that the ones the use now.
Led lamps are the most modern for now, I think the ones we see are fluorescent

IMO State Nigeria A better future is ahead
Why IMO State Should Re-elect Owelle Rochas Okorocha?

1) As Governor, Owelle Rochas Okorocha transformed the education sector by sacrificing 4 billion of his security vote to fund free education at all levels. Built state of the art schools, to record the highest school enrollment record since the creation of Imo state. Clearly, this is true leadership. A man who educates your children has no intention to use them as house-boys or house-girls in the future, he sincerely desires your children’s freedom and empowerment. This is Owelle Rochas Okorocha...

2) As Governor, Owelle Rochas Okorocha is the first Governor in Nigeria to pay the highest minimum wage of 20,000 Naira, although Imo State is not among the richest states in Nigeria. This singular action further demonstrates the Governor’s uncommon passion in the wellbeing of the people of Imo.

3) As Governor, Owelle Rochas Okorocha paid 12 years of pension arrears owed to pensioners by the previous administrations. It took a leader like Governor Owelle Rochas Okorocha with conscience to reverse this ugly trend. In Owelle’s words “it is a curse in the land to owe these old men and women who have invested their lives to serve the nation to be abandoned in their old age” This is genuine leadership; Governance with human face and the fear of the creator.

These three reasons among others; including the massive road construction and other projects going on across the state; provides a mirror into the heart of this great visionary leader chosen by God at such a historic time as this. Imo must be better. Vote for Owelle Rochas Okorocha to keep Imo state moving forward. Imo state needs leaders with conscience. People like Owelle come’s once in a life time. Imo must be better.

Before 2019, Okigwe shall be joined to Akokwa via Arondizuogu with a standard dual carriage way which shall join PH-Enugu express way in Okigwe.

The areas from Okigwe to Arondizuogu to Akokwa that are nearly cut off now by bad road shall breathe a sigh of relief.

The rest of Imo state no go chop only this Owerri, Owerri, Owerri festival here.

The intensity of the lighting is low in the solar powered ones and higher in generator powered ones. I prefer solar as they are always functional even without generators and hence prevent leakage of public funds.
OMG! I wonder how somebody would be comparing the poor street lights in owerri to whats obtainable at enugu or that of the great victor akpabio of uyo. Honestly I wonder what the basis for comparism would be.
The primary functions of street lights is for illumination at night. Thereby reducing crime and boosting the night life of the city which will also affect its economy positively.
In imo we seem to be more concerned with aesthetics than the main purpose of the lights which is to have our roads well lit at night.
If you drive at night in owerri you'll know that we still have a long way to go. Whoever installed those chrome poles with the poor lighting on major roads in a city like owerri lacks exposure. And you wont believe how much it cost the state government. We should praise the govt when they do well and let them know when its not done right. Imolites are very exposed people for Godsake sad
Re: Few Pics From Imo State by OreMI22: 7:46pm On Dec 28, 2014
The type of "Go-slow" happening these days inside Owerri is becoming unacceptable.

All the cars coming from Onitsha and all over Nigeria that are travelling to Aba, Cross River or Akwa Ibom pass right through the heart of Owerri creating mammoth go-slows!

Can someone advise Rochas to expand and dualize the Ihiagwa-Futo road to connect the Owerri-PH expressway directly to the Owerri-Aba expressway. This by-pass will eliminate all these lorries and big buses driving inside Owerri and ruining our local roads. This By-Pass only about 11 kilometers long, will save Owerri city roads and do wonders for the quality of life of Owerri residents.

The creation of this by pass should ordinarily be a function of the FG, but Rochas should do it and seek reimbursement since it's just 11 KM long.We know that left alone, the FG will take 20 years to do the Owerri by-pass. Meanwhile Owerri city roads & citizens shall continue to suffer the harmful effect of massive traffic using Owerri streets to connect from the Onitsha-Owerri road to Aba-Owerri road.

Someone should please send an SOS to Governor Rochas!

The single lane Ihiagwa - Nekede road is still good enough as a by-pass. I passed through it just last week. The road is in an ok condition.
Only that many people still think it is as bad as before so they don't other taking the risk.
