hi guys,my bro graduated with first class in b.sc.ed chemistry. dis year he is currently waiting for is call up letter to service after then he intends to futher is education in chemical engineering field / industrial chemist is that possible? and what are the courses he could consider for an m.sc degree?

It depends. Is he planning to further his studies in Nigeria or overseas? I'd say he can get admission in Industrial chemistry(M.Sc) in Nigeria but will need to get a post graduate diploma if he is switching to any engineering discipline. In the US he can go straight into Chemical engineering(MS).

But, most of the vacancies I see for chemical engineers (graduate positions especially) in the country request for a B.Sc (or B.Eng). What do you say about that?

B.Sc or B.Eng in chemical engineering. If a chemist is eligible for that position, it would be explicitly stated in the advert.

If he has to do an M.Sc there are many options in the field of chemical sciences he can choose from, it depends on his long term ambition. Does he want to lecture? does he want to work in brewery/chemical/paint industry? That choice will determine his best bet. Truth be told Nigeria is a service industry and don't appreciate scientist. I made a good grade too in Ind chem but ended up in a bank. I decided to move on after working 4.5 years in a first generation bank. I do not intend to discourage you, people with chemistry degree make good bucks in Nigeria but positions that require that expertise are very few in Nigeria.

Good. Just make a 2.1, you will be very competitive in terms of employment opportunities but most in the service industry. These companies e.g banks, audit firms seem to appreciate we scientist more than accounting/banking graduates.

It's an interesting and challenging course to study. Just try to graduate with at least a 2.1. There really isn't much you can do while you studying as per your demand in the market.
