What you should know about January 1?

Roman Empire (i.e. land ruled by single authority) uses Julian calendar (i.e. calendar introduced by Julius Caesar in 46 BC) before been replaced by Gregorian calendar (i.e. calendar introduced in 1582 by Pope Gregory XIII). It was replaced due to Julius Caesar murdered.

Romans originally dedicated New Year’s Day to Janus the god of gates, doors, and beginnings for whom the first month of the year January is named. Later, as a date in the Gregorian calendar of Christendom, New Year’s Day traditionally mark the large meal of the circumcision of Christ.

In present day, most countries now use the Gregorian calendar as their facts calendar, which is now the world’s most celebrated public holiday, often observed with fireworks in the midnight and lively enjoyment; usually involve eaten, drinking, dancing, and noise, as the New Year starts in each time zone.

Did you know that New Year’s has not always been celebrated on January 1

Most countries in Western Europe officially adopted January 1 as New Year’s Day by adopting Gregorian calendar. England adopted it in 1752, and before that date they celebrated New Year on March 25, known as lady’s day.
