vote ihedioha to save our state from continuous decay.

As the race to capture the seat of government in Imo State in 2015 gathers momentum, Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives and a front runner in the race, Chief Emeka Ihedioha has vowed to dislodge Governor Rochas Okorocha from the Douglas Road House.

The Deputy Speaker stated this during his state-wide consultation visit of Peoples Democratic Party faithful in Okwelle, Onuimo Local Government Area of the state at the weekend.

Addressing the leaders, officers and stakeholders of the party, he said, “I have come to meet face to face with you and interact on the way forward for our party and our dear state in general. I am motivated to seek the support of our great party for the nomination because I have track record of service delivery including empowerment programmes, infrastructural development, years of experience and indeed the capacity to give Governor Okorocha a technical knockout.”

While lamenting the level of decay in the state, he averred that, “Rochas has sold everything including the Imo Transport Company (ITC), the money spinning Ada Palm, hospitals, including mortuaries, noting that, “the primary purpose of governance is to improve the lives of the people and ensure the security of lives and property.” He regretted that the APC led administration had rather impoverished the state.

Assuring that the state will rise again, Hon. Ihedioha said, “I will fix Imo State and restore the pride of our land. I have a sense of decency and coming with sincerity of purpose, honesty and a well articulated work plan which, by the grace of God, if I am elected, will start impacting the state positively within the first three months of our administration.” He added: “having used my position to attract substantial federal government presence for the benefit of our people, I will also continue to use my position, network of friends and the goodwill I have built over the years to continue to attract amenities to our dear state.”

Ihedioha assured that the ongoing rehabilitation of Owerri-Okigwe Road which he solely facilitated at the cost of N300 million and implemented by FERMA will impact the area positively. He also announced that contract for the construction of the Second Phase of Isi Nweke-Onicha Uboma-Imo River Road in Ihitte Uboma Local Government Area was being awarded in an effort to encourage rice farmers and boost the economy of the state. He enjoined his supporter to continue to keep faith with the party as the only vehicle for good governance and provision of dividends of democracy.

Earlier in his speech, the host and leader of the Peoples Democratic Party in the local government, Right Honourable Maxwell Duru, former Speaker, Imo State House of Assembly, while welcoming the Deputy Speaker, described him as an honest and humble politician whose interest is service to the people. He urged him to continue to be a good ambassador, assuring him of their prayers and unalloyed support for the party.

Owerri urban has merged with the surrounding towns and villages in including ones in mbaitoli that it increasingly becoming difficult to set the boundaries...state govt might have to incorporate these towns and villages in the development of owerri from now on.

I agree with you 100%. Lest Owerri will be like Port Harcourt, the State government should intervene in property developments at the towns of Orji, Obazu Mbieri, Egbu, Awaka, Emii, Emekuku and Irete. My journey from back of Orji to Mbieri and Owerri via Egbu to Emekuku was a cause for concern. Slums and unplanned settlements have sprung up so much that everywhere seems urbanised in a rural way without streets, layouts and highways. That was how Aba got bad.

LOl!!!

IMO-One-City state of Old and New Owerri including the nearby communities - with every amenity the state can boast of crowded only in the state capital and environs.

Imo people, including every incoming governor have already been so inclined to believe that more than 90% of the state's capital development funds must be expended in the state capital.

Thus the rest of Imo state continue to migrate to live in Owerri. This is just the beginning of urban chaos in Owerri - unless by May 2015, we start by having a governor not obsessed with the idea that only the state capital merits about 99% of development infrastructures provided by the state government.

Imo State has gone way beyond Owerri and might be the 2nd most urbanised State after Lagos today. My recent tour of the East shows that Imo experienced more urbanisation by a wide margin. I will like to know the latest report on urbanisation by federal bureau for statistics.

Re: Few Pics From Imo State by Abagworo(m): 11:12am On Jan 01, 2015
Umuagwo gradually transforming. Reason is because Imopoly has been greatly improved and now has much more population and facilities when compared with 2011.

Re: Few Pics From Imo State by Abagworo(m): 11:20am On Jan 01, 2015
Ahiara is already urbanised as evidenced by the presence of most banks operating in Nigeria at the town. I must state that my journey into the villages in Imo State is an eye opener to a possible population crisis. We need to start family planning and also draw maps for city limits. At this rate of urbanisation we may end up with almost the entire State built up indiscriminately.

Somehow I want to believe people migrated back from the North en masse. I think the focus should be on how to generate funds and also how to reduce population growth. Imo is ok infrastructure wise when compared with every other State I visited. The major problem is indiscriminate erection of structures that has made villages look urban.

Egbu is now almost completely built up indiscriminately.

I mean buildings and not people. Right now the only noticeable space between Owerri and Mbaise is just that hill. The rest are built up with unplanned structures.

Owerri on the other hand is even organised in the old parts. A look at Ikenegbu shows well planned and lined Igbotic 2 storey buildings that are gradually being transformed to better shapes.

More Ikenegbu. Noticed "Everyday Mart" which is a household name in Port Harcourt and had to take some shots. Port Harcourt based businesses are opening up Owerri branch.

Re: Few Pics From Imo State by Abagworo(m): 11:58am On Jan 01, 2015
This Dee Sam Road which is a badly constructed Road with good intents. It was started well as evidenced by the look and finishing of the starting point at Warehouse. It was started with covered drainage, walkways and beautiful archs but finished with poor asphalting, open drainage and no sidewalks. All these pictures are from same road.

Re: Few Pics From Imo State by Abagworo(m): 12:05pm On Jan 01, 2015
I drove through Wetheral to a new roundabout at Emmanuel College which is evidently being rebuilt for the 1st time since I was born.

Re: Few Pics From Imo State by Abagworo(m): 12:12pm On Jan 01, 2015
Akachi road is ok but still has open drainage. It is one of the best conceived and implemented ideas of Rochas admin. The tower in the far background seems to be the Akachi though uncomfirmed.

Re: Few Pics From Imo State by Abagworo(m): 12:18pm On Jan 01, 2015
Some shots from Wetheral. Had to take a shot of Techno house.

Re: Few Pics From Imo State by Abagworo(m): 12:25pm On Jan 01, 2015
Some shots from Orlu which is already urbanised.

Re: Few Pics From Imo State by Abagworo(m): 12:33pm On Jan 01, 2015
I like the type of highrises springing up in New Owerri as they seem to deviate from the typical Igbo 4 storey buildings which I have always been critical of. These buildings give a feel of emerging standard city.

Re: Few Pics From Imo State by IGBOSON1: 12:35pm On Jan 01, 2015
Nice effort Abagworo!

Owerri is starting to look ok....albeit with a few rough edges yet to be straightened out!
Re: Few Pics From Imo State by Abagworo(m): 12:41pm On Jan 01, 2015
3rd inland road is also one of the best ideas implemented by Okorocha admin but like many others something is usually wrong. The finishing is lovely but no walkways and the drainage is open. I hope he has plans of awarding drainage covering and creation of sidewalks.

Re: Few Pics From Imo State by IGBOSON1: 12:42pm On Jan 01, 2015
I'll soon find it difficult to choose between Enugu and Owerri......which is the finer South Eastern city! And in a few years time......with the sustained developments Owerri is witnessing, it could even overtake Port Harcourt as the most liveable place in the SE/SS to live and bring up a family!

Someone should tell Governor Rochas to plant more ornamental trees in and around Owerri!

If it is about liveability count Port Harcourt out. Enugu comes 1st closely followed by Owerri. Port Harcourt is by far the most developed city but not serene.
