40 Days To Presidential Poll: Millions In South May Not Vote by maslong(op):
Shambling and shambolic! Those are the words
that best describe what has become of the
distribution and collection of the Permanent Voter
Cards, PVCs, which represents a very significant
aspect of Nigeria’s electoral process.
Indeed, these are not the best of times for
Professor Attahiru Jega, National Chairman of
Nigeria’s Independent National Electoral
Commission, INEC.
With just some 41 days to the most crucial in a
series of elections, that is the presidential election,
fresh facts emerging suggest that millions of
Nigerians may be barred from participating in the
process.
This is so because the sine qua non for voting,
which is the PVC, is not in the hands of many
Nigerians – without it, they cannot participate in
the voting exercise for the different categories of
election.
By the same token, a number of Nigerians have
arrogated to themselves the role of loco parentis.
What this means, strangely, is that whereas the
Electoral Act and the guidelines provide that
individuals are to collect their PVCs in person, duly
signed for after due identification as the bonafide
owners of the PVCs, some District Heads in some
states of the North are being allowed to collect and
warehouse PVCs on behalf of their wards in the
district.

this is real cheating, how can district heads be allowed to collect and warehouse PVC on behalf of their wards huh this is nothing but born to rule thing.

What's the OP insinuating?! Stop attacking Northerners unnecessarily. Most Politicians collected the PVC's on behalf of some people who are not at home. The Southern Politicians in collaboration with the district heads are also guilty of that.

You shouldn't expect people to just watch INEC return 150 out of the total 250 PVC's of a Polling Unit. Most of the Electorates were based at home in 2011, but later travelled out!

I am not insinuating anything negative. The act states that it must be by the person. why collecting it on behalf of the person huh . You can't try this in the south. SMH.

I initially said it that it's been happening in the South and you're telling me it can't happen in the South?! It's happening in Edo State. Yes, I said it!

Nothing tribal here. We are talking about selective favouritism at the expense of another.

If is happening in Edo and in the north, then it could means APC strategies to rig the election.

You don't understand what's going on. If you go to the East, you would discover it happening, if you go to the West, same thing happens. The major reason it happens in Edo is because there are so many different ethnic groups. The Unemes would want to collect theirs so as to make it look like they are more than the Igarras. Binis would like to show that they more popular than the Esans, the Esans would like to show the Afenmais that they are more. So because of that everybody would wanna collect theirs.

And FYI, both Politicians are guilty of this act. You don't just blame everything on APC. Most people believe on their community first, before their party!

^^^And this here is what i'm talking about! We're less inclined to go out on election day, queue and suffer a little inconvenience in the sun or rain, and vote; rather, a lot of us would see that day as an opportunity to catch up on some missed movies, surf the web, or just laze about the house!

I will prefer to be at home watching a movie...than go out to risk my life in the name of voting...as if I don't know how the security of these nation is? The election itself, they already know the winner....I still have a plan for my life and am not risking my life to vote until everything goes well in the country...
