Recently, I have been seeing a lot of people being tagged haters on this forum and I begin to wonder...who is actually a hater?

Firstly I would like to define these terms...
Destructive Criticism: This is pointing out one's shortcomings in an aggressive way which might end up in insults/ridicule.

Constructive Criticism: This is pointing out shortcomings while giving
recommendations on how to solve them.

Hating: This on its part, is the outright verbal dressing down of the subject. It involves cruel and rude remarks.

Having defined these terms; The term hater can be traced back to American hip hop/rap...it has been overused recently, especially on social media. I guess people don't understand what opinions are, let alone the fact that there are conflicting opinions.
Whether you like it or Yes, society demands - that in everything you do...there are people on the sidelines waiting for you to slip (for good/bad reasons).

I am of the school of thought that people should watch their choice of words on social media (and in reality), but then, when we can't freely voice our diverse/conflicting opinions without being called a hater...
__ we can't criticise our artists no more, Voltrons on the prowl to ask "What have you achieved?"
__we can't criticise the govt. officials either, without being tagged poverty stricken.
*How do we grow and improve our degenerating society?
*How exactly do we strive for excellence and "perfection"?

People should learn to sieve the words spoken to them, thereby separating the grain from the chaff. Don't be deluded, into thinking that anyone who opposes or questions your actions is out to deride your person...thus a hater.

I don't understand why literate youths nowadays see it as a new trend to write like they have little or no education, when those originally with little or no education strive hard to write like the literates.

Besides, there isn't much difference between destructive criticism and hating. They both serve the same purpose, only to varying degrees.

I believe it's a free world and we are free to express ourselves however we want.
But while at it, let's engender the internet etiquette of mutual respect.

These three guidelines I learned from an online community I belong to quite captures it and could help us draw the line between constructive and destructive criticism.

- Are you trying to help? Or are you trying to
prove others wrong?

- Are you being witty? Or insulting?

- Is bluntness necessary? Or is there a nicer way
to say what you have to say?
