Reporting From Ondo State - It's Difficult To Find People Who Plan To Vote Gej by DeLaRue: 2:01pm On Jan 06, 2015
I rarely get involved in public discuss of politics with friends, family, or indeed anyone, even in private. Occasionally, I do express views on nairaland, but that's it.

I had some sympathy for ACN, and now have for APC, but mostly keep this to myself.

However, with the Jonathan/ Buhari saga reaching almost feverish heights, it has been difficult to ignore it all recently. So, in the past couple of weeks, I decided to casually gauge the views of people I come into contact with, regarding which candidate they believe will triumph.

Let me put it simply - in almost 2 weeks and with about 20 people sampled, I have not come accross a single person that plans to vote GEJ.
Obviously, my sampling is non-scientific, and the opinions of so few people can hardly be said to represent the views of about over 1 million voters. And it is possible that people are saying one thing to me, but will secretly vote GEJ.

However, one thing seems obvious, people are angry, very angry right now about Jonathan.

People's responses have ranged from: "Vote for Jonathan ke? Ko possible" to "enough is enough" and "I just cant wait for February to come."

Again, as I have said, it is possible that when it comes to actual voting, these people will vote for GEJ. PDP must hope so.

They can vote whoever they like, that is the essence of democracy, just that every one should be ready to live with the consequences of their vote.

The last time Buhari tasted power, he quickly submitted application for Nigeria to become a full member of the international Islamic organisation. That application was reviewed and accepted after he has been overthrown by Babangida, hence Babangida took the rap for not rejecting the admission into the IOC.

This time who knows what Buhari has up his sleeve?

Jonathanians have been holding on to the infantile hope that Ondo and Ekiti voters will vote a man who said 'STEALING IS NOT CORRUPTION'

There is nothing they have not told us yet we always ask ourselves if the Nigerians Jonathanians are hoping to vote GEJ are the ones who loves suffering, who likes the fact that uninterrrupted power supply should forever elude them, who should continually jubilate when a useless government celebrate tarring a 5km road at 1000% the actual cost

Nigerians want change and change they will get from the stifling corruption riddled grip of PDP pharaohnic government

@OP.

They will label you a "gambari slave" for sharing your factual discovery , which is a revelation of the truth on the ground, with Nairalanders and Nigerians. My experience is similar but what is the point talking about it on a forum full of childishly stubborn and clannish elements? Some people do not understand the pain and self-torture many Nigerians are going through for voting a man they thought be "fresh air" and "transformation" yet has now unravelled to be one of the most corrupt, most inept, most insensitively materialistic and most anti-people President in the history of Nigeria. Many Nigerians cannot wait to use their vote to right the wrongs they did to themselves and their nation by voting GEJ into power in 2011.

I predict a disgrace for GEJ and the PDP at the polls in 2015. Central to issues is the growing anger of Nigerians daily against a Party that has misruled the nation this horrendously yet is not contrite or apologetic and remains only interested in vilifying Buhari and the APC as if they caused the problems of Nigeria. Nigerians are repulsed by how the PDP is a Party that abdicates its responsibility to the people only to be consumed with fighting others and making excuses for the failure of the Party to lead effectively. The antics of the PDP and its fans, when they demanded "issue-based campaigning" in the first place, is a big turn off to voters and I pray they keep it up.

Like I've always said, the PDPians on Nairaland have failed to see the reality on the ground. Most of them believe that Buhari is only popular online, while PDP takes it offline. But with the recent development, I can authoritatively say "Hell NO", Jonathan ain't popular as some people are making us to believe here. Anyway, it would soon dawn on most of their Supporters.

And secondly, before OP made his point, he said he has some sympathy for APC, unlike some PDP sympathizers who always tell us they are 'neutral' after opening a one-sided thread to favour Jonathan. Nice one OP. People are becoming more enlightened. They're now saying NO to ethnoreligious/tribal sentiments!

We Ondo State folks are still largely provincial - we are mostly grin upright, go to church or mosques dutifully grin, are polite, modest, like integrity and decency, believe in fairness, but we have an inner steel that is not immediately apparent to the outsider. I suspect this is one of the reasons they massively supported GEJ in 2011 - they thought they saw in him a bit of themselves.

Ondo people can see fraud, recklessness, and greed from afar. I suspect they have seen all this in Jonathan, and they will tell him that in Feb.

You could be right - my findings is probably rubbish. Afterall what's 20 people amongst over 1 million voters.

Who knows - maybe GEJ will annihilate Buhari in Ondo State.

We shall all find out soon.

Op, i admire your maturity on how you respond to criticism.

It's baseless arguing with Wizkid wanna be and sagging trouser teenagers.

Majority of those supporting PDP and GEJ are teenagers and few adults that are still spoon feed by their parents.

They don't know anything about day to day struggle of a common man on the street.

Take for instance their childish argument on Buhari's certificate. You and i know that matured adult will careless about SSCE certificate when there are pressing national issues to be discuss.

VERSES;

24 Then was the part of the hand sent from him; and this writing was written.

25 ¶And this is the writing that was written, Mene, Mene, Tekel, Upharsin.

26 This is the interpretation of the thing: Mene; God hath numbered thy kingdom, and finished it.

27 Tekel; Thou art weighed in the balances, and art found wanting.

So how does what you posted different from what I wrote. Buhari applied for Nigeria to be changed from observer at the OIC to full membership in 1985, the application was reviewed and accepted in 1986. By then Buhari had already been overthrown.

So who has more blame in getting Nigeria into the IOC? To me Buhari who submitted the application in 1985 has more blame than Babangida who did not reject the elevation in 1986.

We the people of Oyo state always go angry whenever we hear Jonathan's name or anyone talks about PDP. In fact, Jonathan is a disgrace to nigerians. He's a disappointment. He's a failure both at home and abroad. He's a disgrace to academic. A very insensitive, careless and clueless man. He's a garbage. No future for the youth, the old and the yet to be born children if he continues as a President. Let me not say much.

At this point, one has to be cautious about apportioning percentages to either candidate in a State like Ondo.

Ondo South - places like Okitipupa and the riverine areas tend to vote PDP, whoever the candidate is. I understand this is because of Agagu who was from that area and also, I am told, did quite a bit for the riverine areas. Those areas should deliver a decent amount of votes to GEJ, assuming even they can stomach his well-documented inadequacies.

In Akure here, those who plan to vote Buhari are so passionate and eager to do so, and their anger is palpable. GEJ's support is either too lukewarm to be noticed or his supporters are a little ashamed to confirm their support in public.

Either way, things don't look good for GEJ in Ondo State.
