Wow! I always wondered what that building was. Thank you so much Centje! The next viable thing would be to dualize that road up to trans-Ekulo where it joins the Enugu-Onitsha expressway.Perhaps also dualize the section from Abakpa to the expressway too. You are right! Spyder's new estate is also along that road! That road has become a new axis of development in Enugu. A dual carriage way will accelerate development as traffic jams into the place will reduce. |

^^^very true, the single lane will eventually not contain the traffic when the area is fully developed. For now, we are enjoying the road it's just remaining road marking, otherwise the road was built well with good erosion control. 2 Likes |

spyder880:i don't the info about Ph station, try asking someone in any of the recent train threads. For now the train runs on monday and Thursday only, so it wont run today. Departure time from Enugu is 7am. Trust me, if you're a minute late you will miss the train, it leaves exactly the scheduled time. I missed the train on monday when I wanted to travel to Ph was very painful 5 Likes |

spyder880: Chairman, while I love your zeal for this city and I do agree that it is nice, please tell me the percentage of people and kids represented in what you see and the actual number of people in that cit, how about those that couldn't afford those basic of life? I hope enough is been done as well to carry them along to some extent. 3 Likes |

Fhemmmy: If you followed this thread over the years, you would have realized that Spydder covers the rich and the poor in his publications. Besides, he is not the chief executive officer of Enugu State, and so there's little he can do to help the poor ones in the city. I hope you do not expect him to go and dig out all the dirt in Enugu to appear peasant-friendly, as that would run contrary to the objective of this thread. Don't forget that every city in the world has it's share of poor people. Thanks for remembering the hard-up families. Happy New Year. 4 Likes |

biafrandream: Chairman, thanks for your comment, i guess my bad for not following the thread over the years . . . . And i know that Oga Spyder is our builder on Nairaland, however, i just again post the question that while the governor is doing all the fanfare and making things work and look good, hope the poor and less privilege are not left behind.... That is all.... Happy New Year to you too, Sir. |
Re: Enugu, The Pride Of The East. by cjrane: 2:49pm On Jan 07, 2015 |
biafrandream: Nigerians often have the wrong notion that building infrastructure such as roads, schools, agricultural mechanization or attracting investment isn't helping the poor unless you dash bags of rice and beans. The Chinese proverb " give a man a fish, he'll eat for a day, teach him how to fish, he'll eat forever" has taught that poverty alleviation is not about dashing rice and beans to the poor. Gov. Chime has no rival in poverty alleviation by providing taxis on hire purchase, keke napep, building smooth roads to ensure transportation is safe, cheap and profitable to the taxi drivers. Many investment has been attracted to the state including Innoson factory. Providing security for people to secure their business places and shops. All these help people to find employment to pull themselves out of poverty, not just giving them rice and beans. 1 Like |

cjrane: That is not true sir, but you would agree with me that subsidized education will go a long way for the poor...... Please dont get me wrong, with what the governor of the state has done, i respect him cos roads and all he has done is important as well and again, i give him kudos. Again, maybe i need to go through the entire thread to understand more of what the has been done to help the poor. |
