I don't think we should be concerned about a prolonged process. After all, no one is chasing us or do we have to report to anyone? Don't you feel that'll make it more fascinating? You will be erasing the intrigue by excluding that part. Let's have our fun my brother. Even if voting will last 3days.

I just can't wait for that moment when every voter will have to nominate just one person per category.

I kinda agree with you guys on some points raised and I was waiting for someone to say something. Now, the timeline is Iron clad.

I don't agree with the contest idea.
If the top nominees contest then its no longer an award.

The award in each category is supposed to be given to the person who deserves it most based on their activities in the section.

If the nominees now contest for it, it has turned into a competition and no longer and award. Nominees who really deserve awards but don't like or are not good at contesting may lose out.
In that case You can just change the name to Job/Vacancy section 2014 competition. (Like the Mr/Miss Nairaland competition)

NB: I agree with d idea of devising a way of making it fun.

I think everyone who could be a judge is a Nominee.

How about we let everyone vote from a pool of those with the highest nominations in each category and take away campaigning?
I think Campaigning is where your issues lie, yes?

I do think so. We can get people like that as judges who can choose the winners based on some ascertainable criteria. However I also realize that if you take that route, the judges' final choices will surely be subject to second-guessing and some disapproval.

This seems like the best option. Yes we can just vote without nominees campaigning or soliciting for votes. The downside of this is that it comes down to popularity. Deserving awardees might lose out due to being less popular than others.

Anyways, I think some categories should be made open to voting while some shouldnt. Personally I don't think the legend of the section category should be by voting. If you check all the mainstream awards, legend awards are even usually announced before hand and rarely are they made open to voting. It is more of a recognition award.
Categories like most handsome/beautiful should definitely be by voting.

I agree with adeaks. Having a contest will defeat the whole purpose. It's an award not a competition. It's not a popularity contest.

Best way to go around this is to either collate and announce result as it is OR create a poll for each category (in that case, no one knows who voted for who). That should only be done for categories where there are significant number of nominations for more than one candidate (like a run off election). In a case where there is overwhelming number of nomination for a particular candidate, a poll is not necessary.

My suggestion!
