Moving far back in time; if you remember your history, the present-Africa is a result of the Berlin Conference of 1884-85 (Africa was literally shared amongst European Empires- Britain, Belgium, Portugal, France, etc).

Furthermore, Nigeria became an amalgam of different regions in 1914. Leaving some marooned in Benin, Cameroun, Chad, Togo...(results of Europe's arbitrary Boundary demarcation.)

I would change the decision of the British to grant us independence in 1960. That was the beginning of Nigeria's doom. The Hausa, igbo, and yorubas sought for power rather than proritizing the building of a great nation.

The british handed indepence to us when we were still children...


Don't get me wrong... I'm not saying I do not support Nigeria's independence, I'm only saying that the timing was wrong.

Do you remember, was it 1958 or 1959 conference in Lagos... When Enahoro under AG moved the motion for independence and the northern leaders felt it was too early. The end of the conference was chaotic though...

I'll allow the british to still colonize us longer than 1960. It is obvious we weren't ready to rule ourselves or maybe if we had fought harder for independence, our leaders would appreciate it and not just treat the masses anyhow

But remember that the Europeans didn't come with a settler's policy. Na to thief and export to their large markets in Europe. Imagine they were still around when oil was found in Oloibiri (commercial quantity)

Late Independence, so the white would educate us properly and help in developing Nigeria, even if it means drilling our oil it doesn't matter. Nigeria would have been a better place now like South Africa.

I think you have a point there: we placing value on our nationhood because we fought for it like black Americans and South Africans. The absence of the struggle makes us complacent; those who did are no more.
