The Nigeria Army was gallant at the mission to end the war in Liberia! How come they are now at the mercy of an enemy in Nigerian soil? Fact is this, the Liberian situation is so different from Nigeria situation. At Liberia, the enemy was "single"! There was unity of purpose among the soldiers. In Nigeria, the enemy is multi-faced! They are found among the: PDP, APC, Police, Navy, Airforce, Emirs, Imams, civil servants, market traders, students, and even the Nigerian army! Boko Haram is ideology with sympathy that cuts across the population of the Moslem north! It is a marriage of religious and political ideologies. This is the ugly truth many will love to shy away from. While soldiers protected one another and fought like one in Liberia, in this case, they betray and back tabbed one another. I have stated else where that if there were among the Nigerians soldiers, those sympathetic to the Biafran struggle, Nigeria could not had won that war despite the the British conspiracy against Biafra! At this war, commanders send troupes under their command to Boko Haram ambushes to the detriment of government efforts to win the war. Interesting enough, rather than call for the head of such commanders, many prefers Jonathan's blood. Just like I am still wondering why Nigerians refused to protest against Boko Haram, they rather protest against government! I am of the opinion that"Bring Back Our Girls" should have been "Free Our Girls" or "Release Our Girls". There was this terrorist attack in Paris a few days ago, the people came out to match against terrorism and not against the government. In Paris, they all joined hands with the government to fight the enemy, in Nigeria, they join hands the enemy to fight the government! In Paris, the Media rose up in one accord, wrote an broadcasted against the terrorists, in Nigeria, the media rose up in one accord, wrote an broadcasted against the government. Our headlines are twisted to chide Jonathan for every Boko Haram attack! As a matter of fact, the 200 Chibok girls was blamed on Jonathan, despite the fact it was the Borno Governor who created the opportunity for the kidnap by insisting the kids must write the exam at chibok contrary to the advice from WAEC. Shekau and his merchants of death are celebrated just in a bid to deal heavy blows on the government. Every of their terror is a missile in the hands of opposition against the government. Nigerians will reap what they have sown! Today, I warn with the hindsight of an eagle, Nigerians will surely reap what they had sown! |

The only trouble militating against their success is sabotage. Even within the military high command and the rank and file, cum political class, they are sabotaged. |

bigtt76:Was the terror attack in France as a result of a weak President? America has suffered heavy death tolls in Afghanistian, was it because their Presidents are weak? The war in Syria is still raging, is it beause their President is weak? The Nigeria-Biafran war lasted for more 3 years at the cost of about 3 million lives, was Gowon weak? What is your definition of weakness? Boko Haram is multi-faced! Did you hear of the 14 year old girl whose parents took to Boko Haram for her to become a suicide bomber? What hast hat got to do with the strength and weakness of a President? I have said it somewhere else, it is the duty of the Government to protect lives but no government can protect the live of a man whose wife has decided to feed with rat poison. You can quote me on this. |

We are not talking about terror attacks BUT rather the response to the terror attacks. What was the immediate response of the French president to the terror attack? He visited the scene and guess what the perpetrators have either been killed or nabbed. In Nigeria? President is only visiting Borno state YEARS after the first wave of terror attacks there. In the aftermath of 9/11 ....the US President Bush ordered Al Qaieda and Taliban to be decimated ...that was done! In Nigeria? Our President is still passing the buck and you want to say the head is not weak? When the coup took place in Sierra Leone ...Gen. Abacha ordered Nigerian forces in to squash that coup ...till date he is celebrated on the Streets of Freetown. What has the 'STRONG' head of Nigeria done? The last coup in Burkina Faso ...what did he do? naaada! Abeg go sidon jooor! noblezone: |

Who told you that they re weak in Nigeria. The only challenge they have is that a lot of locals sympathise with boko haram. Why did kidnapping in Aba ended in weeks after Nigeria troops were deployed or that of Massob in onitsha. USE YOUR TONGUE TO COUNT YOUR TEETH |

bigtt76:Ok. Jonathan has not visited any attack scene? The incident in paris is just one, let their be war in France and let me see how the man will be visiting every scence/ And after the US President's order to decimate Al Qaida and the Taliban several years ago, has both entities not grown stronger and deadly? Go and ask the US soldiers of their experiences in Iraq and Afghanistan. So Jonathan has not given any order against Boko Haram? You are just arguing pointlessly! |
| Re: Nigerian Soldiers: Gallant In Liberia, Weak In Nigeria. Why? by Nobody: 8:41am On Jan 16, 2015 |
@Bigtit, The Borno incident should not be used as a basis to judge the generality of the President's approach to terrorism. Right from the Abuja bomb attack to the Madalla church bombing you can hardly fault GEJ for negligence. Because it was obvious he visited both the scene of the blast and the victims with a promise to curtail the activities of the terrorists. Me for once, see a sign of weariness in the eyes of Mr President. The problem with Nigerians is that we never came out to protest like the french. |
| Re: Nigerian Soldiers: Gallant In Liberia, Weak In Nigeria. Why? by Nobody: 8:59am On Jan 16, 2015 |
Chiwude:Protest? They rather celebrate the BH attacks and tagged them as evidence of Jonathan's Weakness, cluelessness, etc. Even the Chibok saga is also a campaign tool in their hands. APC even use the pictures in their campaign! Instead of the people standing up against Jihardism, they used the "achievements" of Boko Haram as a toll to fight government. They will reap it! If not now, then later. Nigerians have destroyed Nigeria! |
| Re: Nigerian Soldiers: Gallant In Liberia, Weak In Nigeria. Why? by Nobody: 9:14am On Jan 16, 2015 |
op, the main reason why the Nigerian Army cannot be as effective in flushing out Boko Haram as it was in defeating the rebels in Liberia and Sierra Leone is that going all-out against BH will effectively create a CIVIL WAR SITUATION in Nigeria, as occurred in those countries. It would mean mass bombing of cities in the north by the airforce, missile attacks by the army, leading to mass civilian casualties. The north would then see this as 'a genocide' of the northerners/muslims by a southern christian govt, with all the political ramifications that entails, etc etc. And how do you handle the millions of refugees that would flee the chaos and bloodshed? So the Jonathan administration is walking a very tight rope between containing the Boko Haram insurgency, and preventing a descent into a disastrous civil war that could even bring down the govt itself. They have no choice but to exercise restraint in handling the insurgency. |

They are always well equiped when going for peace keeping in other countries cos AU or UN are always involved. But here they have to manage equipments that has pass their prime. But Nigerian soldiers have always been good even here in Nigeria until Jona became president. |
| Re: Nigerian Soldiers: Gallant In Liberia, Weak In Nigeria. Why? by Nobody: 10:08am On Jan 16, 2015 |
debo07:What is your point exactly? They have always been good until Jonathan became President? How do you mean? Jonathan caused them to become bad or they turned bad because of Jonathan? A little of 14 was taken to Boko Haram by her parents so she could become a suicide bomber, how can the military fight that? |

Because the chief of army staff dictates the tunes here. The commander is left to to action over there. It is a deliberate ploy to stall here in Nigeria by the chief commander: GEJ |

May 29 will soon come naa? You guys don't need to turn armchair generals When the people's general take over, you will now see how to quash insurgency. In a sane clime, an officer that keeps loosing ground should either be demoted or sacked but in Nigeria they are left to continue to do what they do best; loot and loose! How can there be sanity when you know that the best thing to salvage in a firefight is your own life? Then you can abandon your men and give excuse that the enemy was using lightning and thunder against your own ak47. We are already reaping what we have sown because we voted for Jonathan knowing fully well he had nothing to offer. We got carried away by his sob story of no shoes, now we have learnt the hard way that expertise and experience is better than any paper certificate. Never again will we vote for another untested hand! |

North east matter can't be compared to Paris In the North, terrorists are occupying land, this is no longer guerilla warfare. This is land warfare. And Nigerian soldiers are trained for land warfare So why are they loosing? When Jonathan was retiring all those highly skilled and heavily trained officers and was elevating those inexperienced officers who will be loyal to him. He forgot that it will backfire. The chicken has come home to roost. Our beloved Nigerian army, the terror of Liberian warlords , and the scourge of RUF rebels have become the chicken that runs at the sight of Boko haram. What a shame 140 Military Generals Retired In Two Years |

noblezone:I got ur point but can somebody in ogun state protest against boko haram when its clear that. people in the affected area support the sect based on either political or religious affiliations. Were you not aware that parents are voluntarily giving out their kids to be used as suicide bombers. |

Kemy11:That is excatly the point I am making. In my post,I tired t explain that the perceived weakness of the army is as a result of a lot factors., including the fact that Boko Haram has sympathy across the population of the northern Moslems, |
| Re: Nigerian Soldiers: Gallant In Liberia, Weak In Nigeria. Why? by Nobody: 2:47pm On Jan 17, 2015 |
debo07:What we have now is nothing to be compared to the Biafran saga! Also, Boko Haram is not primarily an arms struggle thing, it is a religious/political ideology. You can slow it down but you cant stop it. |

noblezone:I stopped reading when I got to the bolded part - that is all I need to know your type - those filled with hatred for anything northern muslim. How can an "over-decimated" muslim population in the north be sympathetic to those killing them mercilessly? Use your God-given brain and answer that question. How can a population be sympathetic to a cause designed to wipe them out - its like saying the Jew were sympathetic to Hitler's ideology. There was a report yesterday of jungle justice meted on a young man who was SUSPECTED to be a BH member. He was killed by a mob of the same of northern muslim youths. Later upon investigation by police, it was confirmed the young man (the victim) did not have any explosives with him. And here you are accusing the same northern population of being sympathetic to BH. Oh BTW I am not a northerner. |
