There is no change in kerosene price.

Remember that at the moment, NNPC has subsidy on Kerosene, and the current pump price for kerosene is 50naira.

Kerosene is a combustible hydrocarbon liquid widely used as a fuel, in industry, and in households. Its name is derived from Greek: κηρός (keros) meaning wax, and was registered as a trademark by Abraham Gesner in 1854 before evolving into a genericized trademark. It is sometimes spelled kerosine in scientific and industrial usage. The term "kerosene" is common in much of Canada, the United States, Australia and New Zealand.

Kerosene is usually called paraffin in the UK, Ireland, Southeast Asia and South Africa. A more viscous paraffin oil is used as a laxative. A waxy solid extracted from petroleum is called paraffin wax.

Kerosene is widely used to power jet engines of aircraft (jet fuel) and some rocket engines, but is also commonly used as a cooking and lighting fuel and for fire toys such as poi. In parts of Asia, where the price of kerosene is subsidized, it fuels outboard motors on small fishing boats. Kerosene lamps are widely used for lighting in rural areas of Asia and Africa where electrical distribution is not available or too costly for widespread use. World total kerosene consumption for all purposes is equivalent to about 1.2 million barrels per day.

To prevent confusion between kerosene and the much more flammable gasoline, some jurisdictions regulate markings or colorings for containers in which kerosene is stored or dispensed. For example, in the United States, the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania requires that portable containers used at retail service stations be colored blue, as opposed to red (for gasoline) or yellow (for diesel fuel)

The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) has initiated a scheme aimed at getting kerosene to consumers across the country at the regulated price of N50 per litre.

This is contained in a statement issued on Sunday in Abuja by the Group General Manager, Group Public Affairs Division, of the corporation, Mr Ohi Alegbe.

It said the scheme ‘Kero Correct’ initiative’ was also aimed at cutting off the several layers of middlemen who made it difficult for the end user to enjoy the subsidy on the product.

The statement said that the Executive Director, Commercial, of the Pipeline and Products Marketing Company (PPMC), Mr Frank Amego, announced the initiative at a one-day workshop in Abuja.

It said the workshop that was organised by the NNPC was to enlighten some Non-governmental Organisations (NGOs) and volunteers engaged to help monitor the sales of the product at NNPC Mega and affiliate stations across the country.

It quoted Amego as saying that the scheme was aimed at getting kerosene to the Nigerians who used the product as their domestic cooking fuel at the correct price

He observed that though kerosene was the most subsidised product, Nigerians had not been enjoying the subsidy.

He said this was because of the long arbitrage system involved in its distribution and retailing, and diversion of the product by marketers to the construction industry where it was used for blending bitumen.

“The Kero Correct initiative is thus designed to distribute and sell kerosene directly to end users from NNPC Retail mega and affiliate stations across the country at the government-regulated price of N50 per litre to ensure effective control,” he stated.

He said the scheme which would be officially launched soon, would involve the distribution of a total of 1,500 trucks of kerosene across NNPC Retail’s mega and affiliate stations across the country.

This, he said, was to ensure that each consumer gets at least 25 litres of the product over the next three months

At present, diesel is said to be unregulated i.e. zero subsidy, and sells for NGN150 per litre

however, kerosine has a subsidy that should reduce the price to NGN50 per litre. It is fradulent for the govt. officials to claim to want to reduce kerosine to NGN50, when that is what it is suppose to be at the moment.

if nnpc cannot ensure kero is sold for 50naira, they should officially deregulate it like diesel and we continue to pay the 150naira as we currently are paying and govt. saves the subsidy money.

Ridiculous and Scandalous...... The question is why now?

that is to show you that our leaders can make things good but they wouldn't; all these 'good' are now happening because they need our vote in return.

Some people say "we are wise now". I really hope Nigerians are wiser (I do not believe we are 'WISE'). Historically, the majority of Nigerians seem not to be able to think clearly when voting. A good and recent example was that of Ekiti state where Fayose (who misbehaved very well during his last mandate) donated little quantity of rice and people decided to vote him based on that. What is wrong with telling him to stuff his rice in his a** or better still, take it and vote for the better person (since there was no RIGHT candidate anyway except a better one).

Based on the current line of thought, are there no other candidates except Buhari and GEJ? I do not think any of them is good for Nigeria although GEJ is definitely the worse of the two since he led Nigeria all this while without serious things to show for it except for mostly causing Nigerians embarassment.
