same people clamoring for low pump price are same people that will occupy naija if subsidy is removed today but then you can't ask for such low prices without deregulating the petroleum products market and allowing the forces of demand and supply determine products prices and thus private refineries can come on board
Don't mind them. You know, the masses are generally clueless, even in the USA. That's why the founding fathers of USA never allowed the masses to elect the president. Instead their presidents are elected by delegates.
And the people here are generally sentimental. Analytical thinking is a rare commodity with us.
This Op should kindly rephrase his article and take out those intelligible claims he made.

From what I read he seems dumber than the youths he accused of not being able to make good use of their brains.

Excuse me, but how can someone make intelligble claims according to you and still be dumb at the same time?

And talking about cluelessness, I'd say you sir are dumber than a box of rock, except of course you meant to say unintelligible if at all you know what that means.

I wonder y people don't sit down to make research n finding, just jump up n write just to credit or discredit. Naija Government has failed n all we should b praying for is a good change n not trying to give credit to those do not deserve it.
You are talking of gas price in naija is cheaper to the US, have u sat to calculate how much an average Nigerian earn n cost of living? I live in Virginia where just a cent is anticipated to b added on pump price of gas n everyone is talking about it as if it's 10$.
Minimum wage is like 8$, which means $8 x 160 hours a month of labour =$1280./month, n 1280$ x 181naira = #231,680. While I bought a gallon for $1.45, therefore making a litter here =about #84.
Now how many Nigerians earn this much n anytime there is election that is when these people come out to do us the so called favour just to win our vote which we give them foolishly. Was there no gas all this while,y was d price not reduced until now?
Let us stop celebrating failure as if these things are not our right ,just because it's reduced should we start dancing n throwing parties.
Please let's pray, hope n look forward to change.
Long live Naija
As long as Nigeria oil Importers buy oil at the same price, from the same refineries as usa marketers, the salaries of the Nigeria citizens does not determine final sales price for the marketers. Their interest is to recoup their costs plus profits.

I saw various posts on the social media, criticising federal government's reduction of gasoline(PMS or Petrol) pump price from N97 to N87. More worrisome is the fact that some of our youths join the bandwagon in the criticism.

I wonder why we have some youths of our country who can not make use of their brains to ponder on issues that would further enrich the country. Present day youths are being tossed around by the older ones and sometimes, by illiterates. ‎

Drivers paid an average of $2.2021 a gallon for regular gasoline at U.S. pumps of recent in the US (do some ‎confirmation) 1US gallon = 3.7854ltrs‎ ‎$2.2021 = N398.58 (@ exchange rate of N181/$) Therefore, 1gallon = N398.58 ÷ ‎3.7854ltrs = N105.29/ltr in the US

Meanwhile, in Nigeria, after taking into consideration, landing costs and other expenses, it is N85/ltr for the same litre of gasoline yet people are ignorantly ranting on social media and elsewhere. Between Nigeria and the US, which is better? What has happened to some present day youths in my dear country, Nigeria‎? Mr. President, Goodluck Jonathan has indeed shown that he has the interest of Nigerians at heart.‎

Our votes cost more than N10

GEJ is seeking to buy your votes for N10, but your future cannot be exchanged for N10. He knows this move is not sustainable and so, he will. definitely increase it, even more than N97, if you vote him in.
He waited up until 27 days to the election to make this move...Haba! Nigerians! You are not foolish! Tell him!

Minimum wage per month for a full time job in Nigeria=N18,000
Note: some people earn much less.

minimum wage in USA according to OP = $8/hr.
Full time job is circa 40hours/week.
40*8=320
There are 4 weeks in a normal calendar month.
320*4=$1,280

Let's use exchange rate of N175=$1
therefore, $1,280*175= N224,000/month.

Minimum wage / month in Nigeria= N18,000
Minimum wage / month in USA = N224,000
And the official exchange rate is N184.5 to a $! kai

@ OP
This comparison won't work on so many
levels. Consider certain things 'peculiar' to
Nigeria mostly because of the level of rot
in the system. 1. Is quality of gasoline in Nigeria the
same with what they get in the U.S? No 2. What's the earning power of an average
individual in each country? 3. What's the level of development in each
country? Don't forget that almost every
family is it's own 'local government' in
Nigeria. U practically have to produce your
own water and electricity amongst other
things. 4. Is the level of infrastructure in the oil
and gas sector commensurate with the
level of resources available in Nigeria? 5. Are Nigerians getting the best out of a
liter of gasoline like the Americans? Not
with the level of older engines running in
the country and the substandard quality of
fuel definitely. 6. Is the current level of oil production in
the U.S sustainable over a long period of
time? I doubt it. Shale oil / fracturing is
one of the major reasons why certain
OPEC member-states (chiefly KSA and
Qatar) have allowed the free fall of crude oil prices to continue unchecked. When
you consider these two countries are also
strong allies of the U.S, you see it's quite
a complex situation. Just this past week,
John McCain led a delegation to Qatar to
discuss certain issues with the Emir and Prime Minister. I bet the politics of crude
oil pricing was part of their major talks. These are just some of the things to
consider (amongst many others) before
you 'celebrate' the reduction in fuel prices
in Nigeria. If our leaders are honest,
there's no reason why Nigerians should be
paying above 50 naira per liter worst case scenario. Factor in the timing of the
Nigerian government in doing this and it's
very obvious it shouldn't be considered as
a genuine decision. They devalued the
Naira and then reduce fuel pump price by
10 naira days to major elections. Nigerians should brace up for serious
economic challenges this year because the
government is just window-dressing a very
terrible wound. Irrespective of whoever
wins the coming elections, the Naira is
still heading downwards. Figures alone don't always tell the true story of things.

We all learn everyday. I thank God that an average Nigerian youth, whom you termed illiterates probably because you are trying to confuse or convince us politically, now has the ability to differentiate between a pre-election strategy by our government so as to take over the wheel of power again. This is at least a recommendable growth on the part of our youth. We do not accept anything thrown at us by our government because we are intelligent enough to see the message of their policy.

Comparing Nigeria fuel pump price with that of a country bigger than Nigeria and even more populated than us, which also is not member of the Organization of Petroleum exporting country has shown clearly your level of ignorance because I will not like to use illiteracy.

In Libya, Venezuela, Saudi Arabia. Which are OPEC countries, oil price are between 0.07$ to 0.17$. Meaning that Nigerian govt is the black sheep among the top oil producing countries.

Yet you expect us to be happy because the pump price dropped from 97NGN to 87NGN. Maybe they are exploiting us to Enrich the country. Still yet the average Nigeria live as a slave in their own country.

The president has only the interest of being reelected in mind.

Special Jane say so.

This thread is too funny. Let us try and upgrade Nigeria's infrastructure before trying to compare ANYTHING to America. Let us get to the point where electricity is constant and water is running and roads are repaired and paved properly. Let us start there first, abeg.

one barrel of crude oil is now below 50$

One barrel of crude if refine is equivalent to 150 liters of fuel.

Do the maths

Why can't we own a refinery?

If we refine this crude oil in nigeria there will be no need spending money for imported fuel.

We could simply buy locally refine fuel for 20naira.

Oil thefts steals 400,000 barrel per day.

And nigeria only need free 250,000 barrel per days to power our economy, but only few people enrich themselves with GEJ.

This will only make us to spend for refining cost and by then it will be around 10naira if crude oil is free.

This will make our economy more stronger and the poor will feel the impact of a government. No robbery and kidnapping.

to power electricity and the whole nigeria economy is 250,000 a day. Oil thefts steals 400,000 per day.

Jonathan failed nigerians

You're using both ends of the same stick to crucify Jonathan. When he wanted to remove the subsidy to encourage investors to build refineries and abolish the corruption in the petrol subsidy scheme, you refused. But now that the price of oil has gone down worldwide and we can't enjoy the benefits cos we still don't have any refineries, you want to crucify Jonathan again. You have to decide on exactly what you want.

Since Nigeria imports most of the domestic oil products needs, we should expect to pay the international going rate for the products.
If we want to maximize the benefits of being oil producer, we need to refine all our domestic needs.
