Buhari Executed 40 Soldiers For Plotting A Coup (New York Times 1984) by sCun: 11:17am On Jan 20, 2015
LONDON, Nov. 17— More than 40 soldiers have been executed in Lagos after a plot to assassinate Nigeria's military leaders was uncovered, a London newspaper said in its Sunday issue.

The paper, The Observer, said 42 officers and enlisted men were involved, including two lieutenant colonels and four majors. The plan had been to gun down the Nigerian leader, Gen. Mohammed Buhari, and his ministers while they were watching the independence day parade in Lagos on Oct. 1, the paper said.

But the plot was revealed, and the plotters were rounded up and shot in an underground firing range at Ikeja, outside Lagos, it said. General Buhari toppled the civilian Government of President Shehu Shagari in a coup on Dec. 31, 1983.

Buharists cry to high heavens when soldiers are sentenced to death for aiding boko haram but their master wasted the lives of 40 soldiers without trial for allegedly plotting a coup. Worse still, he was still kicked out by a coup a year later after wasting those innocent lives.
What can be more clueless than that?

Oga, abeg na which coup plot be that? Mention the major actors of the coup. I'm a Nigerian and find it uncomfortable that a foreign newspaper is telling me a bout a major coup plot in recent time that I never read about in recent history of the country. So Can you please educate us more on this phantom coup that occurred under GMB reign...I want to learn please. By the way, what date was GMB overthrown from power again?

Babangida and Buhari should face the same tribunal or be summarily executed.

Savages who truncated Civilian rule also executed others who tried to push them out.

The worst is Buhari went further to ban every political gathering and decreed indefinite detention for whoever discusses the political future of Nigeria so long as he remained in power.

Buhari wanted to be Idi'Amin of Nigeria.

Sentiment apart, for Buhari to have led a regime which truncated Civilian rule should be disqualified from taking part in democratic elections having disbanded a newly constituted government.

What is the punishment for failed coup plot?

It is death anywhere in the world.

So OP and his co-travelers, cry us a river as you like.

The article was written on November 18 1984, Buhari was ovethrown in September 1985, less than one year.
There was nothing like press in Nigeria during Buhari's time in power so you don't expect Nigeria newspapers to have the gist.
See another article below

PRESS FREEDOM WITHERS, REPORT SAYS AP Published: December 21, 1984
The institute, whose members include nearly 2,000 editors and publishers in 60 countries, said one of the most striking turnabouts in press freedom this year happened in Nigeria after the military coup
Dec. 31, 1983. The rise to power of the new Nigerian leader, Maj. Gen. Mohammed Buhari, ''severely restricted what was once the freest press in black Africa,'
the report said. Many journalists in Nigeria have been jailed under the Government's Decree 4, which calls for prison terms of up to two years for those found guilty of ''false publication.'' ''As such, any story that embarrasses the Government is considered an offense and its authors liable to imprisonment,'' the report said.
Hostile Literature Governments have imprisoned journalists they feel have broken tough press-restriction laws such as
one on carrying ''literature hostile to the state'' in the Sudan, or for criticizing the authorities in
Cameroon, Liberia and Haiti, the report said.

Buhari apologists always tell us that Buhari wasn't involved in the 1983 coup, that lie has since been busted.
They tell us that Buhari wasn't desperate to hang on to power that was why IBB overthrew him easily, but this killing of 40 soldiers for plotting a coup proves that he was indeed desperate to retain power. His cluelessness was what made IBB overthrow him easily.

What a hypocritical chichidodo...he executed those for the same offence he committed against Shagari...or could all these be a rouse to eliminating percieved enemies, enterprising, brilliant and creative officers(soldier wey sabi too much book) on trumped up charges?? And since Buhari is known for bias and selective justice- Shagari's house arrest and Ekweume's 1000 year maximum kirrikirr sentence comes readily to mind let us leave that of Ibrahim Awwal ,Buhari's village man, loitering about Heathrow International with 14 million pounds in raw cash filled suitcases whilst Ambrose Alli,Sam Mbakwe even Ojukwu were left to rot and die in the gulag for another topic- could these doomed officers be chiefly consisting of South west/South east/ South south men and women?? Are we looking at ethnic/religious cleansing in the Nigerian Army well supervised by Buhari and his minions??

You cannot fight corruption when your political sponsors are the most corrupt individuals on earth...you cannot fight corruption when you get endorsed by those you intend to jail...you cannot fight corruption when you didn't even go to school to know the meaning of corruption. Some people hav turned themselves into by force Bible study Teachers by Digging Deep into the past, all in the name of "Buhari". I laughed at ur strenuous futile efforts. I will advise u to go dig deep in World military records in the 80s and see how it went before Democracy engulfed the World and CHANGE things. U plan a Coup and succeed, ur luck. U fail, ur death.
To think of we not reasoning with our criticism is even one thing we should deal with before dealing with others.
