Section 131 (d) of the Constitution states that a person shall be qualified for election to the office of the President if he has been educated up to at least School Certificate level or its equivalent.

What is the equivalent of School Certificate?

According to section 318 of the same constitution, "School Certificate or its equivalent" means

(a) a Secondary School Certificate or its equivalent, or Grade II Teacher’s Certificate, the City and Guilds Certificate;

OR

(b) education up to Secondary School Certificate level;

OR

(c) Primary Six School Leaving Certificate or its equivalent and -

(i) service in the public or private sector in the Federation in any capacity acceptable to the Independent National Electoral Commission for a minimum of ten years, and

(ii) attendance at courses and training in such institutions as may be acceptable to the Independent National Electoral Commission for periods totalling up to a minimum of one year, and

(iii) the ability to read, write, understand and communicate in the English language to the satisfaction of the Independent National Electoral Commission, and

(d) any other qualification acceptable by the Independent National Electoral Commission;

From the above

Let’s assume Buhari possesses only a Primary School Leaving Certificate. He has been able to fulfil the requirement in red color above because:

1. He was in the Nigerian Army (Public Service) for up to 24 years rising to the post of a Major General. He also ruled the country for about 2 years as a Military Head of State.
2. He attended many military trainings in the best military institutions around the world.
3. He is able to read, write, understand and communicate in the English language
4. He possesses numerous military qualifications (from the trainings attended) and many other qualifications after his career.

@ all of u who do not mind dt Buhari has no certificate... Ds is not jes abt Buhari,it does not end wt Buhari either.It is abt setting a standard...If ds is overlooked 4 Buhari,den i'm afraid u'll hv 2 do d same 4 others who do not hv d necessary qualifications...Pls fnk long term

What standard are you talking about?, if Nigeria have any standard we would not have masters degree holders hawking GNLD products on the streets while more and more masters degree holders are produced, to work as bus conductors.
