There are a lot of American high school movies I have seen but 'The Spectacular Now' is exceptional. Realistic, not cheesy, heartbreaking, and the performances are fantastic. You feel for these young, damaged characters.

Note: it isn't a love story. Nevertheless, it explores the themes of attraction, naivety, low self-esteem, drinking and family issues. It is an excellent film in my opinion. It's better than 'The Perks of being a Wallflower', another good high school movie.

I recommend it.

We love them for their different flavours.

I usually group them by the actors.

I am discussing 'high school movies' as a genre on this thread. And yes, I have seen of the actors you listed above, from 'Election' to 'Mean girls'.

'Spectacular Now' blew me away. I normally don't watch high school movies again but this one is different. No wonder, it won prizes at Sundance film festival where it premiered.

It's refreshing. A deviation from the usual high school story line.

Precisely why it's receiving 'some' attention.

But spectacular? Think not.

@op, for some reasons I really don't know if I can stand that movie. Besides I really don't digg shailene. I was really glad her scenes were cut out from amazing spiderman.

Back to topic. I prefer mean girls anyday anytime. Pitch perfect would have taken it but it's about college freshers

Looking back I wonder how I coped with watching her act secret life of American teenager and that her dumb sister too Ashley.

I don't watch white people movies....but from the ones I watched a long time ago, I like "When Kelly Met Justin"....though I don't really remember what the plot was about.

I know Pitch Perfect isn't a High School Movie, but that's the most recent white people movie I liked
