From the comments so far we can see that most of these igbo guys prefer to be 'killed and buried' by their 'brother' rather than being saved by 'others'. Thats the feature of souls that are sold to sentiments. The worse part is, when the chips are down, and they are writhing in d hardship occassion by their wrong-choice, they wiill run to church, fast like 'die', pray like mad. But, the most interesting is, God will laugh at their stupidity. I have decided CHANGE is the way to go on FEBUHARI 14

Coal CAN create 1 direct and indirect million jobs if the industry is developed.

The problem is if you want to have a viable coal industry, you also need proper regulation.
It won't happen in 4 years, and frankly it comes at a high cost in terms of lives that will be lost in mines and air pollution from burning coal.

This is my field so let me say a few things,

There are modern ways of burning coal that reduce emissions significantly, Nigeria just have to ensure that there is proper regulation. The high capital cost for renewable sources of energy does not make it a viable source for energy poverty faced by west africans.

Poor countries like Nigeria do not have a choice but to explore the avenues for development including coal as it CAN provide a lot of jobs for the teeming unemployed.

A simple cost-benefit analysis would show that investing in coal can be very beneficial for the Nigerian Economy..

I am a proponent of renewable energy and have written research papers on it but the fact that it is often times not economically dispatchable and needs significant investments and incentives does not make it an attractive choice for developing economies

biafraqueen obviously haven't heard of clean coal technologies. while renewable energy is the future, coal is still important for most developing countries because it can generate revenue in the commodity market and can provided much needed electricity because of the cost. As long as there are strict regulations, significant investment/research in renewable energy and diversification of electricity generation, coal can play a significant role

Thank you for your mature response...
The millions to set that industry up to standard can be used with solar energy
rivalry between American and Chinese solar panel industries is likely to yield substantial reduction in solar power costs over the next five years. Meanwhile in the renewable energy world, the cost of solar energy has dropped 50 percent since 2008, driven in part by falling solar panel prices as demand grows and the technology gets more efficient. While solar remains an expensive option for many areas, overall the industry is nearing cost competitiveness with stalwarts like coal.

http://www.nytimes.com/2014/11/24/business/energy-environment/solar-and-wind-energy-start-to-win-on-price-vs-conventional-fuels.html

Yes, there are significant improvements in renewable sources of energy and they have become more competitive over the last few years but Nigeria does not have the luxury of a Germany, USA or China.

Growth in renewable energy has been as a result of incentives such as tax rebates and renewable portfolio standards. The legal and policy framework for the development of renewable energy in Nigeria is non existent. Currently Nigeria offers feed-in tariffs for renewable energy so that they can break even but more incentives are required otherwise it won't be competitive.

We need all the help, we can get. A vibrant coal industry will create jobs for many many Nigerians but i fear that regulation and safety standards will be a problem given the Nigerian factor.

He has done it before and he will surely do it again. GMB is a very disciplined man who means whatever he says. It is now left for Nigerians if they will give him the opportunity to revamp our long abandoned infrastructures.
what has he done before? You mean he created 1m jobs to almajiris?

There are technologies that reduce the emissions from coal significantly.

As regards, the safety of lives in mines.... That is an where proper regulation comes in.

Igbos need infrastructures and not job, unemployment isn't prominent in igboland. All we need is infrastructural enhancements
