There is really nothing both GEJ and GMB can do to the economy. They are both incompetent and the Nigerian masses are far too sold to corruption, incompetence and anything-goes for them to ask the critical questions and demand answers. So, in the absence of a credible candidate, let's make the most comic situation we can out of GEJ and GMB: two clowns leading or wanting to lead a country of 170 million in-country clowns.
GMB: two clowns leading or wanting to lead a country of 170 million in-country clowns.

are u implying that u are a clown leaving outside the country?

I'm no fan of GMB and his team but I have to admit that this course you have chosen to remain on is played out and counter productive.

YALE Professor no PhD

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Andrew_Casson
His Ph.D. advisor at the University of Liverpool was C. T. C. Wall, but he never completed his doctorate; instead what would have been his Ph.D. thesis became his fellowship dissertation as a research fellow at Trinity College, Cambridge.
You wanna compare a US mathematician with a Nigerian ''professor'' of Law?

Did you see his scientific (mathematical) accomplishments? Compare them to Yemi's legal accomplishment for global intellectual relevance, pound-for-pound. What I mean is, what does Yemi's accomplishment add to the legal discipline compared to what Carson's added to the mathematical discipline?

Besides Carson did start a PhD (but did not complete the studies), unlike Osinbajo who does not know what it takes to be a PhD student, let alone a real professor.

I've never seen a more senseless post on Nairaland. You're supposed to be asking what the candidates are supposed to be doing, u're here asking if someone is a fake professor. U're part of the people pulling the country back. I pity Nigeria. That's why the old people would keep ruling

I am in full support of @OP's scrutiny here, as I believe no stone should be left unturned in the interest of transparency.
But coming at a time when up to 3 in 5 university dons fall into the same category, I am not sure about the mileage that can be derived from this particular thread?

Jonathan, who spent the Sallah holiday in his hometown, Otuoke, said his administration had designed another scholarship programme for a category of people he referred to as “intelligent Nigerians”.

He said prospective beneficiaries must possess first class degrees from the university.

He said the special scheme was designed for specific areas of discipline such as molecular biology, genetics, economics, engineering and applied sciences.

He said only about 400 Nigerians were qualified across the country to go for the selection.

He said, “About 60 per cent of lecturers don’t have PhDs and we reject it. We decided to come up with a programme for you; to be in the academics, you must have PhD. This means that we must work out a programme for everybody to have scholarship.

Actually I do not want to compare anything. I am not Osinbajo;s mouth piece and do not support his political ambition all I am saying is people can become professors without Phds. That is a fact. I do not ven believe Osinbajo iss currently a professor but that is an entirely different issue. I do not know anything about him

That issue of US professor versus Nigerian professor etc those are unfortunate words really I won't comment on them except to say you need to expand your consciousness

Who made Osinbajo a Professor at UniLag? He does not seem to possess a terminal degree. So how did he become a professor at UniLag with just an MSc degree?

Is that how they award professorships at UniLag or is it quota system professorship to fulfill Awolowo's quota, given his relationship with the later?

Could his lack of a PhD degree (yet claiming professor) be the reason he is willing to work under Buhari who is school certificate-less?

If Indeed Osinbajo has no PhD, who then are his students; has he as a ''professor'' supervised PhD students in the past (only in Nigeria would a non-PhD ''professor'' supervise PhD students for the purpose of awarding the degree)?

To be a lecturer in Nigeria is not = to being a Professor in Nigeria. That 60% of Nigerian lecturers do not have a PhD degree is different than 60% of professors not having a PhD. All professors teaching in Nigeria today possess PhD degrees, except Yemi Osinbajo. How did he pull that stunt? grin grin grin

A professor is 'awarded' based on the number and quality of publications. You do not need to have a PhD to become a professor. What you should ask is the quantity and quality of his published works.
A person with masters can become a professor if he or she publishes well researched papers.

Please, other than Yemi, mention one Nigerian professor without a PhD, apart from Chinua Achebe and Wole Soyinka, who we know why they were made professors back in the 60s, I think.

Are you saying that Yemi is the greatest legal mind in Nigeria to warrant awarding him a professorship without a PhD?
Re: Who Made Osinbajo A Professor At Unilag? by Nobody: 9:10pm On Jan 27, 2015
I was a lecturer in engineering.
PhD is not a requirement for professorship. To be a professor all u need is a good number of quality publications. Many Professors who became professor b4 2005 has no PhD. They don't have it because they didn't need it.

But around 2005, NUC made PhD compulsory b4 you can be a senior lecturer . So right now u need a PhD.

OP u need to do proper research b4 posting.

It is true that both Achebe and Soyinka do not have MSc degrees, yet are referred to as professors. But they both have deep global recognition that warranted several foreign universities to make them ''honorary professors''. So while theirs is excusable, what excuse does Osinbajo have to become a prof in 1990 without a PhD? Unless of course he is an ''honorary professor'' at unilag. Lol

You are not ready to learn my friend. Politics has blinded you from proper reasoning. I just told you the basis for being called a professor. You also gave the names of people who became professors based on their published works.
You need to pipe down in your dirt digging because its starting to make you come across as an ill-informed person.

PHd is a prerequisite for professorship if you didn't make an extraordinary effort to get it, like a sound publication which will erupt the interest of various intellects globally, the work need to be to very excellent.

Now tell us the extraordinary effort that prompted the PHd of prof osinbajo.

are u dat trivial? This is social media. Most people type with thier fone. People don't pay so much attention to diction and tenses. All that is important is communication.

An example is Profesor Anao. The former VC of Uniben.

Note: they don't have PhD because they didn't find it necessary. Not because they can't obtain it .

Don't mind the mofos! All or most of the notable achievements that Yemi ever made were after he became a prof, not before. So the basis for making him a prof was very shallow and smacks of quota system.

if you open your mind, you will learn.
Let me give you an instance of where I have worked with people with no PhD, but very quality publications. Research institutes like IITA, NISER, NIHORT, etc are places where research works can be carried out, leading to many publications. So if a man is employed in IITA and works there for 5 years, publishes in many reputable journals, then decides to join academia. If armed with over 30 publications, it will only take him few years to become a professor (no need for PhD).
