So you are imperfect and you were picking on another person’s spelling mistakes and grammar earlier?

PhD wasn't previously required to become a Professor in Nigeria or elsewhere. Try to research the requirements for professorship now and historically instead of asking stupid questions. If you do need the list of Nigerian, professors with no PhD, you should do your own research. I don’t know why you Jonathan’s supporters now think that it is cool to ask absurd questions on social media.
No PhD, no publications (as of 1990), yet you become a Prof, yes?

If so, why were all the MSc holders in Nigeria back then not awarded profs?

So where is his PhD thesis and/or publications that warrants being a prof?
Good question.

There should also be a searchlight beam on Fashola and his "Oluwole" SANship.

Obviously, you must be an intellectual midget to assume that asking how a non-PhD holder became a professor of Law in Unilag in 1990, just 8 years after bagging an MSc is unimportant.
Don't mind the animal...

Guy no vex me oh... who said anything about him being a phd holder? I am saying you, and all ur likes... get ur heads out ur a$$es and know that paper certificate or phd for that matter has no direct bearing on professorship.

Ps.. I inow guys with phds that hv less than 10 high impact publications and some lousy thesis. And no other meaningful publications therefter.

My point is.. Give me an Osibanjo with an Ond and this number of publications anyday.. and I call him a prof. Give me a GEJ with his 'missing" phd thesis and no publications and I call him a MR. .. kapish?

When did he become a Professor? Do you know? Was he a Professor i in 1990?

Someone posted a linkedin link on this thread. https://www./professor-yemi-osibanjo-brings-abayomi

From that I can see the following:

Work Experience: Simmons Cooper Partners (Barristers and Solicitors), Senior Partner, 2007 till date; University of Lagos, Professor of Law, Department of Public Law, Faculty of Law, 2007 to 2013; Lagos State Ministry of Justice, Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice; Member of Cabinet, Lagos State, 1999 to May 2007 ; United Nations Secretary General’s Committee of Experts on Conduct and Discipline of UN Peacekeeping Personnel around the globe, Member (2006); United Nations Operations in Somalia, Staff Member, Justice Division, UNOSOM II; Law Firm of Osinbajo, Kukoyi & Adokpaye, Partner; University of Lagos, Professor of Law and Head of Department of Public Law (1997-1999), Federal Government of Nigeria, Special Adviser to the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, (legal advice and litigation), 1988-1992; University of Lagos, Senior Lecturer I (1983-86), Lecturer II (1981-1983), Bendel Development and Planning Authority, Legal Officer (Youth Service),1979-1980
It means he became a lecturer in 1981 and became a Professor i in 1997. How can he not become a Professor i if the foregoing was his cv?

You did ask for publications. The guy provided the following:

Yes, I know that both Wole Soyinka and Chinua Achebe do not have PhD degrees. But that was many years ago when Nigeria was undeveloped and when anything goes. Moreover, that was in Literature studies, not a relatively more intellectually tasking discipline such as Law. In contrast, Yemi is a much younger person compared to Wole and Achebe, and all his peers who are professors have PhDs. Can you mention any Nigerian professor of Yemi's age without a PhD?
Soyinka & Achebe did not become professors without Ph.d because Nigeria didn't come of age; it's the British old system before it was scrapped.

You are a stupid liar. Yet you cannot point to any IITA staff without a PhD who has gone on to become a prof; I know many of them with publications and all who are profs do have PhDs. You do not know IITA more than me. Oponu buruku
Dude, you don't have to descend before you make your points crystal clear, it will only show you are a mere casual labourer in IITA.
Re: Who Made Osinbajo A Professor At Unilag? by olapluto(m): 11:28pm On Jan 27, 2015
This topic has turned to a case of arguing with a rigidified mummy. See the list of publications dating way back to early 80s. PhD is a formality for someone with so much publications.
In a typical top 100 uni, PhDs have like 10 publication, 40 publications will get you associate professorship, 80 publications, and you're a full prof.
Now looking at Osinbajo's publications, is it still sensible to question his professorship?

And an addition too... yall still doubting should go and read about "Phd by publication" and "Phd and publication"

Prof osibanjo does not only hv way more than enough publications, but if his monographs are published individually as is done for "Phd and publication". ... he wld hv atleast close to a dozen PHDs. Esp considering that for PHD and publications, most schools world over are happy with just 4 to 5 publications. Hence the general shift to PHD by publication.

@francis5 when ever I read criticism from young nigerians like you!!! I'm disdain by the rate we youth claim we are intellectually exposed rather just showing our level of research intellect ineptitude !! I most state that up to some few years(5) ago senior lecturers that have masters could get to the level of a professor without having PHD but such lecturer should have published a minimum 5 journals in international journal as part of the requirements to be considered a prof but few years ago NUC through a circular stated that all new prof most have PHD #note most profs in law in nigeria have just LLM for example prof chinua of UNIBEN a leading light in land law in nigeria also former dean of law UNIBEN prof Lawrence Atsegbua SAN one of the leading light in oil an gas law, even the revered prof taiwo osipitan of unilag are all example of prof without PHD,
I'm most state that we should place fact on the table rather than showing great level of ignorance when arguing about what we aren't conversant of. And with such CV of prof Osinbajo has, only few Nigeria profs with PHD can match such and intimidating CV he got

Who made Osinbajo a Professor at UniLag? He does not seem to possess a terminal degree. So how did he become a professor at UniLag with just an MSc degree?

Is that how they award professorships at UniLag or is it quota system professorship to fulfill Awolowo's quota, given his relationship with the later?

Could his lack of a PhD degree (yet claiming professor) be the reason he is willing to work under Buhari who is school certificate-less?

If Indeed Osinbajo has no PhD, who then are his students; has he as a ''professor'' supervised PhD students in the past (only in Nigeria would a non-PhD ''professor'' supervise PhD students for the purpose of awarding the degree)?

I dey laff ohh!!!!
Baba go and ask unilag!

I guess we should concentrate our energy on great things we want to see our country achieve.

We have many half baked graduates in this country and it appears that this OP falls in the category of Nigerian Half Baked grads......
So OP doesn't know that barely few years ago , you can become a professor without a PHD? It was NUC that pegged the minimum requirement of a professorship to PHD just 10years ago..

[s]PHd is a prerequisite for professorship if you didn't make an extraordinary effort to get it, like a sound publication which will erupt the interest of various intellects globally, the work need to be to very excellent.

Now tell us the extraordinary effort that prompted the PHd of prof osinbajo.[/s]

Re: Who Made Osinbajo A Professor At Unilag? by omonnakoda: 1:50pm On Jan 28, 2015
Whether or not he was ever a professor at Unilag is a matter of fact i.e. He was or he was not it is a matter to be resolved by verification by those who dispute its veracity .
Whether or not he has a Phd also falls under the same rubric
Whether he was actually deserving of being a Professor if indeed he was is another matter entirely. There have been countless examples in Nigeria and elsewhere of individuals without Phds who have been made Professors and so I do not subscribe to the idea that a Phd is essential to tenure
