16 Political Parties Threaten To Boycott General Elections by jmoore(m): 11:46pm On Feb 03, 2015

Sixteen out of the twenty six registered political parties on Tuesday endorsed calls for the postponement of the general election slated for the February 14 and 28.

Also five out of the 14 presidential candidates on Tuesday signed a statement urging the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to postpone the elections to a more appropriate date.

The parties are United Democratic Party (UDP), Citizen Peoples Party (CPP), Peoples Party of Nigeria (PPN), Action Alliance (AA), Peoples Democratic Congress (PDC) (ACPN), Labour Party (LP), (MPPP), United Party of Nigeria (UPN), Alliance for Democracy (AD), (ADC), (ACD) Democratic Peoples Party (DPP), New Nigerian Peoples Party (NNPP) Peoples Party of Nigeria (PPN) and Independent Democrat (ID).

The five presidential candidates who endorsed the postponement were Godson Okoye (UDP), Chief Sam Okoye (CPP), Prince C.O Allagoe (PPN), Tunde Anifowose (AA) and Ganiu Galadima (ACPN).
The 16 political parties in a resolution calling for the postponement, said, "Fellow Nigerians, we the concerned leaders of political parties, run up to the 2015 February General Elections, have observed some dangerous trends, which if not checked may negatively and adversely affect our democracy".

The parties hinged their argument for the postponement on security, distribution of Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) and people deserting their residence for their villages.

They also threatened to boycott the elections if the opinions were not respected.

The leaders of the 16 parties called on Federal government to take necessary steps to provide adequate security for Nigerians to go out and collect their PVCs in order to be able to exercise their civic and constitutional duty.

Inconsequential parties Are you serious at all

So because your imaginary 45m cards have been distributed then others should be disenfranchised

So what stopped Jega from ensuring PVC distribution at the polling units a continous exercise since its availability The truth is Jega has failed in his duty.

And is your buhari even qualified in accordance to the law

Did GEJ/PDP tell the 16 parties to make the statement they made Or how is GEJ connected to the 16 parties

Not everything should be pinned on the GEJ/PDP, the issue here is INEC/JEGA failed in their responsibilities and that's what we should focus on and not all this finger pointing and stone throwing...

Elections will not be postponed, the worst that would happen is INEC will continue distributing the PVC till 2 days to election, to increase the number of already distributed PVC...IMO

Don't pay attention to those people. If you investigate further, you'll eventually find out that there are political motives guiding their stance.

I mean, INEC just declared yesterday that ALL PVCs are ready for collection. What I expected these "election postponment campaigners" to do is to request the government to declare a 2-day public holiday dedicated to ONLY collection of PVCs across the country.

There's about 9 days left to the elections. Today is 4th...using 11th as a bench mark so as to give 3days allowance to the 14th, we have about 5 working days + 2 weekend days. Using 2 out of those 5 working days + the weekend would see a very high percentage of people collecting their PVCs.

This is exactly what I expected these people to be calling for these past weeks but alas, they only thing they're interested in is "elections must be postponed" simply because there's an agenda behind it.

They've already failed. This election cannot be postponed because Jonathan has to be given eviction notice early so he would be ready to leave Aso Rock by May.
