If I came across as insulting you, please do forgive me I promised myself that I would never let myself descend to that level on Nairaland and your response serves to let me know that I have inadvertently crossed a line I set for myself.

Be that as it may I contend that the premise of your first post is false as the article and other related articles clearly state that
I,The project has not even begone
II,The Mexican parliament citing claims of corruption has forced the government to cancel the bid which Chinese firm won and declare a second round of bidding for the project.
III, new bid will include firms that preciously were not included in the previous bid and
iv,For the claim that the project is founded by the chinese (yours and no where infered in the articles) the article seems to indicate the possibility that Chinese may not win the second round of bids(totally my read).

Comparing our situation with the Mexicans is probably not a good idea.
Again I sincerely apologize any insult giving was no intended.
It is good to note that some people don't just support candidates blindly, I'll try to read up on that Mexican issue. By the way #Nigeriamustwin and I've accepted your apology

There is nothing so bad, so misleading and so naïve than when an ignorant person purports to make an argument out of an issue that is beyond his level of reasoning. This is what the O.P just did with his post on the number of years GEJ has spent in office. We can always forgive him because of one thing- his was plainly ignorant as he couldn't grasp the gist of his assertion. The presidency is an institution in NIgeria. In fact it is the foremost executive institution in the country. Our constitution stipulates that the president is the leader of the executive arm of government which is also reffered to as the presidency. The relevant sections of the constitution also did stipulates that the vice president should act on the absense of the president or any other time he couldn't perform his official duties. The verb 'act' needs a little clarification here as it is misleading when subjected to its everyday uses. Acting, therefore, within the context of our constitution simply means whenever the president for some reasons couldn't perform his official duties. The acts of the acting president is legally valid as he is now the leader of the presidency which is the foremost executive body in the country. The bills he signed into power are seen as the laws of the country even when the president resumed his duties later on. But in our case, the late yaradua never did. GEJ was quickly sworn in as the president and picked Sambo when yaradua died. He stayed in office till the last general election was conducted which he won convincingly to become the president. In summary, GEJ has spent more than four years in office so 0P learn how to get your facts before you run and post unintelligent post on a public forum like this.
You know all you said does not change one simple fact.
Goodluck Jonathan prior to February 10th 2010 had no power to act in an executive capacity save for whichever power/authority the president gives him per the constitution.
That authority was never given by the previous president to the then vice-president until the National Assembly invoked the now famous "doctrine of necessity" on February 10th 2010 which counted to the 14th of February 2015 is maths even you can surely do.

Some of you just flow with the current without knowing what started it.

In other words, you want to say the hackneyed opinion that he gagged the press.
Do you know what led to that sort of reaction towards some set of the press?
It's because Buhari went hard against drug couriers whom some elements in the military alongside MKO backed...and after, much warning, he resorted to capital punishment to scare them stiff.
Some people weren't happy. MKO wasn't happy. And you know he had a good influence over the western media which set the tone of discourse then. And the press attacked whom the controlled paid editors felt should be attacked.

On your "he jailed southerners and left northerners"

Its time to clear your heart of bias-
There are facts you may not know- As a civilian vice president, ekwueme somehow mysteriously built a brewery in his naative town of oko, ursurped money from his office and built the MODOTEL chain of hotels in the east.
Now, these begged for investigation.
And these, amongst others was why he was locked up.

Ambrose Ali, Aper Aku and Pa Ajasin were not entirely innocent.
They used up money from their office to fund their parties. Wrong.
I must admit, they didn't use the monies for themselves.

Did you know that Mohammed Goni was jailed too?
He ws from the north.
You remember Taatari Ali? He was jailed too.
And Barkin Zuwo?

Plssss. You guys need to read more or ask the older folks more questions than coming up here to spew uninformed biased lines.
SMH.
What you may not know is that Barkin Zuwo was an ethnic Nupe migrant in Kano.
You also may not know that it was removal of some local rulers/Emirs in Kano State that Rimi had previously installed that he was punished for. Otherwise the 3.4 million found in his house would have been covered up like many others were covered up.

You also seem not to know that Taatari Ali's problem with Buhari began long before the 1983 coup, in fact before 1979 when he became governor. It was in the early to mid-1970s. Do you know what Ali's job was then? If you know history as you claim, you should know it by heart.

Ali expanded agriculture and others in Bauchi immensely. That govt officials were not efficient managing them were teething problems that subsequent privatisation could have solved.

Those things you read in history are mostly polished. I witnessed it. Got the facts fresh and hot then. A close relative was a top journalist who was uncovering Buhari's motives for his selective injustice. Of course he got harrassed and dismissed from job. Other brave journalists were imprisoned or fled abroad.
Karma being a bi.tch, Babangida imprisoned Buhari near the childhood home of my relative that he had sacked from work.
Buhari was a feudalistic bigot and remains one.

FYI, I even briefly met Buhari when he was head of state. Did you?? grin

You think all the broom waving and street/venue sweeping is for show?

We live in a world where the spiritual controls the physical.
Most people carrying brooms all about have no clue.
Jonathan winning the election against all odds will not be as a result of the work of his team, based on that alone, Buhari might as well be sworn in now but because it has been decided in the spiritual.

You just drop names "my cousin this, my close friend a top journalist...huh?"

Does that make the assumptions become the truth? I don't know.

You earlier said Buhari jailed southern politicians and overlooked his northern brothers, to which; I told you NO.

I went on to list the northern ones he jailed.

Now, you're telling me he jailed them because of personal feuds with them. Nawao.
Only one man go get beef with so many people like that?
Abeg, when you met Buhari in person, why didn't you tell him he was a feudal lord?

Drop names? How? The relative is closer than a cousin. I never mentioned cousin/friend. Maybe your social status might make you see these things as impossible.

Well, when I met Buhari, he was like 42 years old. Everybody still erroneously believed he had good plans for Nigeria. In fact he was addressing students in a campus.

But it became obvious soon after that he was just another typical African dictator. No bright ideas. Wanted power for the sake of it. And to rescue his neck over his stolen 2.8 billion.

Even if I had met him later, I wouldn't have told him so. After all, I had great plans for the future (that I'm lucky to realise now). Why would I risk early death or imprisonment from a dictator? Nigeria & Nigerians are not worth dying for. It is a mere crude oil and oil blocks contraption of a country.

You and I know very well that we didn't see much of Buhari to say he had no good pans for Nigeria because IBB cut his plans short.

From his economic policies which sought to boost patronage of local materials; Buhari cearly had Nigeria at heart.

And jeez, were you in campus in 84?
Nigga, how old are you now?

Lol, Kids of university staff @ University demonstration Sec school obviously are on campus.

Senior prefect & other school prefects obviously would be model students & SUG to meet an August visitor.

Did you think all NLers are jambites?
Left 9ja to study abroad decades ago. Buhari & boys destroyed education system.
At least where I am, I got everything on merit.

Look, we all celebrated when Buhari firt came to power. He had massive support. He was even endorsed by Pa Awo then. Shagari's officials were becoming indifferent to the plight of the public. Inflation, unemployment as it was/seemed then.

We hoped that like Murtala/OBJ era, there will be return to a better democracy within years. Even WAI was very popular.

But soon, we saw Buhari had no plan to leave power, sacked workers, cancelled key projects etc.
Then his decrees. Retroactive death sentence. Then a relative and co-workers who had become family friends lose job. Some returned from abroad in the 60s & 70s after studies to work in 9ja after turning down or resigning from decent jobs abroad.
To save money is cool but at the cost of familes being pushed into poverty?

Take Ambrose Alli for example: a professor of pathology (called morbid anatomy then). A contractor donated money to UPN. Did he deservethat ridiculous jail term?

Take Pa Ajasin too. Tried, not gulity. Tried again, not guilty. He was still deatained. Haba.
Jonathan has not performed optimally. But if you consider current global economy, FDI, employment, infrastural development, new universities, Amajiri schools etc. I cannot remember any govt in the past 30 years that came close.

The powerful elite of 9ja control many things: companies, banks, oil blocks, followers/hangers-on, etc. Most of them got what they have via corrupt or shady procedures/processes.

It is very complex and fighting the system and maintaining your position/presidency is DIFFICULT. OBJ found out. OBJ once said even Jesus would find it hard govening 9ja.

Advanced democratic nations today took time to correct anomalies in their system. If GMB had not overthrown Shagari, our democracy would be 35 years old now. Constitutional amendments and refinement would have taken place since to strengthen it.

Why do we have to recycle old generals? What happened to Fashola, Ribadu, El-Rufai, Duke and many others with track record?

My brother, in ways more than one; you baffled me with your last overview.
You've not really shown a clear appreciation of Buhari's short lived govt besides the hackneyed parlance that he overthrew shagari, he displined people harshly etc.

You've not bothered to share your knowledge on why some projects were cancelled or why some people lost their jobs.
I can place your seated angst towards the General- "your relatives lost their jobs"

That's not well placed, bro.
That's a grudge.

I will tell you why some projects were cancelled and some people lost their jobs.

Let me start with why shagari was overthrown-

His govt was characterised by massive corruption and white elephant projects and the weak willed shagari just looked on.
The culture of indsicipline and corruption wa fast festering.
It was Umaru Dikko who looted almost 3bn dollars and said Nigerians weren't hungry because they were yet to feed off the gutters.

Buhari and co had to stop this blood sapping culture and restore that decent order of running govt.
So, is it this same shagari's style of lootocratic govt that you'd have loved to last 35yrs?
Be serious man.

On job losses.
Buhari inherited a piled up debt from shagari and knew he had to work with limited budget.
He even cut down his annual budget against shagari's own by 15%.
This was why some project were halted or outrightly cancelled. The Lagos metro rails was one of them...and some questionable white elephant projects.
He recognised the roots of Nigeria' economic burden and set about encouraging the patronage of local materials.
He almost banned importation and this affected jobs. And, it was meant to be a temporary phase in the scheme as things would have looked up with time.
As you claim, you're now enjoying the fruits of a developed western society; why didn't you sojourn there when they were developing?
Don't you know they worked their way up and had their trying times of austere conditions aimed at improving their local markets and to wit, economy?

You alo said, "people were shot"
As if they were innocent people on the streets.
Those people were drug traffickers and I can make more revelations to you on why they Buhari went hard against them...some elements in the military were their backers and needed to be scared into stopping or quitting the heinous drug game.

In some ways, that's partly why IBB took over.
